Hi everyone! I’m working on finishing my graduate degree in Applied Linguistics and I’m doing some research into pronunciation by learners of French. I’m looking for some participants to take part in this study.

What’s involved: Participants will record themselves saying 18 French words and answer some language background questions.

Who can participate:

● Learners of French as a second language (English first language)

● Learners of Spanish as a second language AND French as a third language (English first language)

Tech requirements: A device with stable internet access and a microphone (laptop will likely work best).

Time requirement: About 10-20 minutes

Vocabulary How to engage with vocab instead of memorizing it

In class I am given these long lists of vocab and grammatical structures that I have to learn. We barely go over them in class and move on. We are not really expected to know them. I want to truly know these words (I am a Spanish major) but I just don’t get the practice I need in class. How do I go about getting them down? For example, I am learning political vocabulary right now, but just writing sentences and flash cards is only enough to get me through a test before I forget it. Do you have any advice for making it stick? I am in the 200-300 ish range for coursework if it helps at all. (TL)

Studying [Doctoral Academic Research] Do you use GenAI to learn languages (ESP/SPA)? (+ free teacher support)

Hi everyone! 👋

I’m Verónica, Spanish teacher and PhD researcher at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona). I’m currently investigating how learners use Generative AI tools to learn Spanish, and how that shapes their autonomy as learners.

I'm looking for participants to share their experience in two ways:

  1. Sharing their AI chat-logs with me (once a month or so) - just what you use to learn-study spanish, nothing personal.
  2. A short interview, every two months, to talk about the chat-logs and your perception of it.

In return for your time, I’m offering free, personalized study support in Spanish (TL) (conversation practice, text reviews, answering your questions, etc.). I'll be your study partner!

The requirements are:

  • to be at least 18 years old,
  • to be learning spanish (TL) at the moment and using GenAI,
  • to be able to communicate in Spanish and/or English.

All details regarding participation, time commitment, and data privacy are explained in this form: https://forms.gle/5BD3PfWDW8mne3U8A If you're interested in participating, please complete it and I'll contact you soon.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or reach out at [veronica.ponce@upf.edu](mailto:veronica.ponce@upf.edu)

Thank you!!

Studying Has anyone actually used smart glasses to learn language?

Hey, I'm Devin. I'm a media worker. My mom is Chinese, but I don't speak Chinese (TL).

I saw people discussing smart glasses.

Some of the features include:

Live captions of what people say

Live translations of unfamiliar words you hear

“Word upgrades” with suggestions for new words to try in context

Auto-generated study plans based on your daily conversations, common mistakes, and the types of conversations you have

I tried translation glasses when I visited China before, but honestly, the experience wasn't that great. Later, I started learning Chinese and realized that instead of just translating everything, glasses might actually be better for helping people learn a language.

Now I'm curious, has anyone actually tried using smart glasses to learn English? Did they help, or did they distract you?
