Meta [WARNING] Suspicious accounts are messaging users to advertise a paid app

EDIT: several users has let us know that some of the accounts in question are Riley1692, amie-2002, leopard6004, and cebubu6865. These users have now been banned, but unfortunately can still send messages to subreddit members. I would strongly recommend that you don't engage with these users, as they are spamming the subreddit with advertisements and their actions have been very suspicious.\**

Hi y'all,

We've been notified by a user about multiple suspicious accounts messaging people who post in r/language_exchange, sending them messages similar to the one below:

Just curious, have you ever felt frustrated with language exchange? Too many DMs, chats fading out halfway, or spending a lot of time but only a few connections actually lasting? I’m curious what people think about this. [advertisement for a paid app]

This is to let anyone in this subreddit know that these accounts should not be trusted and neither should the apps that they are promoting. If you get a message like this, please report the message so that these accounts can hopefully be banned sitewide. You can learn how to do that here.

Please also send their usernames to us via modmail so that we can ban them from the subreddit. This unfortunately doesn't stop them from messaging subreddit members, but it will prevent any spam via posts or comments.

If you have any further questions or comments, please reply to this post or send us a modmail.

Meta (READ THIS FIRST) Welcome to r/language_exchange! [Meta/General Discussion Thread]

Welcome to ! This subreddit is aiming to help people find partners to practice languages with, offering the languages you already know in exchange to learn new ones. Make sure to read the guidelines before making your first post!

🍃 How do I make my language exchange post?

If you're looking for a language exchange partner, you can either make your own post or search through existing posts!

→ Making your own post:

  • Your thread title must follow the format of "Offering: language | Seeking: language". If your post doesn't follow this format, it won't be visible to other users.
  • Make sure to write a little bit about yourself, such as your interests, hobbies, or language-related goals. This is important in making sure you can find a good partner!
  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

→ Searching through existing posts:

If you don't want to make your own post, you can search through existing posts to find someone who matches your languages! Just use the search bar at the top of the screen, or select a post flair to see all posts of the same category.

  • Please do not post your contact information publically. If you find a partner and would like to chat with them on a platform other than Reddit, please message them your contact information privately.

🍃 What kinds of posts and comments are allowed?

This subreddit's purpose is to serve as a platform for people to find language exchange partners. To keep the community true to its purpose, there are some rules:

  • Must be language exchange. Posts that don't concern language exchange will be removed. This includes posts asking general questions about language learning, advertisements, or meta discussion concerning the subreddit. These discussions are better suited to other places (language learning questions should be posted to broader subreddits; meta discussion should be posted in the comments of this thread)
  • Be courteous to other users. This subreddit isn't a place for arguments or debates. Any comments that break this rule will be removed.
  • No advertising. Posts and comments that advertise apps, services (such as classes and tutoring), or groups (such as Discord servers or Whatsapp groups) will be removed. These kinds of posts clog up the feed and don't follow the purpose of the subreddit.
  • No spam. Spam is the repeated posting of the same content. Any posts and comments that are spam will be removed.
  • No contact information. Contact information (such as Discord usernames, phone numbers, or Whatsapp contacts) should only be shared privately in messages, not publically in posts or comments.

🍃 Can I make a language exchange post for a language I've just started studying?

You can participate in this subreddit regardless of your skill level. However, it's highly recommended that you grasp the basics of a language before you look for a partner. This subreddit is for speakers of different languages to *assist each other* in learning. This subreddit is not a place to find a teacher that'll teach you everything for free.

Good luck on your language journey!

If you have any questions, feel free to leave a reply on this post or send us a Modmail.

-----

Welcome to the meta/general discussion thread!

This thread is for any questions, suggestions, or discussions concerning the subreddit itself. If you have any thoughts about  you want to share, post them here! I'll try to respond to as many comments as I can.

If you have any further questions, feel free to send us a Modmail.

Offering Korean Offering: Korean | Seeking: English

Hi, I'm native korean, 30 M, living in Incheon(close to airport and near Seoul).

I'm finding kind of Online-penpal, using Reddit DM.

It would be great if we can extend to speaking and meeting, but my language level and circumstance are not sufficient for these at this moment.

I think my english level is around A1~B2,

when it comes to reading and writing. (speaking? maybe around A1~A2?)

If you are interested in learning korean, you can choose topics anything you want - K-cultures are welcomed, too. (ah, the word "welcomed" reminds me to say that both males and females are welcomed)

I will usually send you DMs around 22:30~24:00 KST(UTC/GMT +9) , not everyday - maybe 2~4 days a week. But time is ADJUSTABLE. Feel free to DM or reply to me, I can handle schedule.

And if you need help for korean speaking, I can phone call with you in korean, 1~2days on weekends.

Thanks for reading, I wish you to have a nice day.

Offering Spanish (Offering: Ukrainian | Seeking: Spanish)

Hii!! 💞 I’m looking for a Spanish-learning partner who could become a good friend, too!
I’m really into RPG games like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Where Winds Meet, Neverness to Everness (NTE), Minecraft, and many others! I also enjoy anime and being part of different fandoms.
I’d love to meet someone who is also learning Spanish so we can practice together, improve our skills, help each other, and learn something new every day! 🥹💕
I’d really like us to talk regularly, share our interests, discuss our favorite characters, send each other memes, and maybe play games together! I’m open to trying new games, too.
It would be amazing to find someone who genuinely enjoys spending time together and wants to grow and learn with me. I’m hoping to build a genuine, long-lasting friendship!
If we share some interests, feel free to reach out! I’d be really happy to meet you!

Hi! 😊

I'm a 27-year-old guy from Spain, native in Spanish, looking for someone to practice and level up my German (sitting around an A2 right now). I'd love to work on my vocabulary, grammar, and get more fluent speaking bit by bit. In return, I can definitely help you out with Spanish with whatever you need.

Besides languages, I'm super into art, design, history, and other many things, plus just rambling about random thoughts or whatever comes to mind. If you're interested, send me a DM.

Chinese Offering: Chinese (Mandarin)|Seeking: English (mainly), French, Korean.

• Upvotes

Hi! I'm Mia

I'm a native Chinese speaker and fluent in Mandarin. I'm here to find a language exchange partner who can help me improve my English. I'm still learning, so I'm not very fluent yet — thanks in advance for your patience! In return, I'd be more than happy to help you practice Chinese.( I'm also interested in learning Korean and French! I've studied each of them for about two months, so I'm still a complete beginner. If you're willing to help me learn either of these languages, I'd love to hear from you too! )

I'm a designer with a lot of curiosity and a wide range of interests. I enjoy talking about different custom, history, philosophy, religion and spirituality, art, movies and TV shows, food, as well as everyday life and habits.

I'm hoping to find someone who'd be up for chatting regularly. I'd be happy to correct your Chinese naturally as we talk, and I hope you can do the same for my English! I think learning a language works best when it feels like a natural conversation rather than a lesson.

It would be great if you already had some basic knowledge of Chinese, but it's definitely not a requirement!

If you're interested, feel free to reach out to me on WeChat or Instagram. Looking forward to meeting you.

( I’m actually quite talktive, but I’m still figuring out how to strike up a conversation with new people. Hope you don’t mind. I usually have about one hour each day, two or three days per week to study.)

Offering Spanish Offering: Spanish (native) Seeking: English (native)

My name is Anthony 24M from the Dominican Republic. I speak Spanish natively and I'm looking for someone who enjoys diving into the languages. I like to teach Spanish so that'll be no problem. I'm the type of person who looks up lots of information about both languages so I don't mind being asked questions that may sound deep or nitpick. I'm into light gaming, pop music and videos, some history, and I can talk a little bit about everything. If this interests you, hit me up. I want to get an American accent and sound native so I'm working hard on it. If you don't mind being asked questions about accents and nitpicking then hit me up. I don't mind either if you ask me about Spanish.

Offering Multiple Languages Offering: Mandarin Chinese + Northeastern Chinese dialect | Seeking: English

Hi! I’m a native Chinese speaker from Northeast China, and I’m looking for a native English speaker to practise with. I can help you with everyday Mandarin and introduce you to
Dongbei hua, the Northeastern dialect.

Dongbei hua has a reputation in China for sounding lively and funny. Here’s a little joke about my English practice:
“Can you speak English?”
“必须滴!” (Bìxū dī! — You bet!)
“Is that English?”
“No, but the confidence is international.”
China is huge, and its regions have different accents, food, humour and ways of life. I’d love to share a bit of mine while learning about yours.
I enjoy travelling, running, photography and stand-up comedy. I’m working on my English and would be happy to exchange voice messages or have a casual conversation. Feel free to DM me here first. If we get along, I also use WeChat, WhatsApp and LinkedIn.

Let’s help each other learn — 必须滴!

Reddit

Hi, I’m a 30+M Chinese native living in China (a central city). I would like to find a Spanish native speaker to help with my oral Spanish.

I am fluent in English and a language lover as well. I have systematically learned Spanish (B1) in Instituto de Cervantes and French (A2) in Alliance Française more than 10 years ago, but interrupted by my career for a long time. Now I really want to continue my language learning.

In return, I can teach you Mandarin. Besides, we will talk a lot of about Chinese History and Culture if you’re interested. I have read works of Garcia Marquez, Luis Borges and Isabela Allende, and I love Spanish music.

Feel free to DM me. I am usually on Discord and use other social media like Facebook and Instagram as well.

Hi everyone! Good morning, good afternoon, or good evening! 🌷

I'm a girl from China, and I'm looking for a language exchange partner who is a native English speaker!

I have about 1–2 hours a day for language practice. I'm flexible about which app we use, and we can chat through text or voice calls. In return, I'd be happy to help you learn Chinese, including Pinyin, speaking, writing, and more!

Of course, we can also share our cultures and interests! I really love nature and animals, and I'm currently preparing to apply for a master's degree in ecology. I also enjoy drawing, electronic music, and video games. One of my favorite games is Arknights!

If you're interested in chatting and practicing together, feel free to send me a DM! (´・ᴗ・` )♡

Offering English Offering: English, Seeking: Chilean Spanish

Hello. Looking for someone to practice Spanish with (from Chile). I speak fluent English and can help you practice! I prefer to have voice calls on Discord. I'm not the best with voice notes :( I can try (I know it can be hard to find a common schedule), but I struggle to maintain long-term convos without calls.

I'm strictly looking for Chilean Spanish. Ideally I'd love to talk to someone 30+ but it's not mandatory.

Thank you! 🫶

Offering Cantonese Offering: Cantonese(native), English and Mandarin | Seeking: Japanese / Spanish / just friends

Hey this is 24F, born and raised in Hong Kong. Cantonese is my first language but I can also offer English and Mandarin. I’m looking for someone that’s interested in teaching Japanese or Spanish:)

For Japanese, I’m into anime and live music. I’ve been to a few concerts for Japanese artists like Vaundy, Back Number, Akasaki and Fujii Kaze and the whole vibe at live shows there is just INSANE!!! Totally different from any concerts I've been to anywhere else! I know the basics like Hiragana/Katakana and basic greetings and I've tried self-studying with textbooks but I honestly struggle with staying consistent on my own. I really want someone to practice texting/speaking with so I can stay motivated :’)

As for Spanish, I really love travelling around Europe and I think knowing Spanish would be awesome to have. One of my favourite parts of travelling is meeting new people and making friends along the way, so being able to speak the language would make connecting with people so much easier and MORE FUN:)))

I’m down for casual text chats and voice notes or whatever works best for both of us:) If you're looking to practice Cantonese, English or Mandarin and can help me with Japanese or Spanish, HMU!!!
