General Abdul Basit (Murattal) 78:34: am I hearing "digāqā" instead of "dihāqā"?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm memorizing An-Naba and checking my pronunciation against different reciters. In 78:34 (ﻮَﻛَﺄْﺳًﺍ ﺪِﻫَﺎﻗًﺍ, wa kaʾsan dihāqā), Abdul Basit's Murattal sounds to me like "digāqā", with a g where the h should be. Husary's Murattal of the same verse has a very obvious h.
The video plays both at normal speed, then both at 0.75×.
Is the h actually there and my ear is missing it (old recording, his voice, the q right after it), or does it really sound different? Non-native speaker here, so I'd like to know if I'm tripping.

Standard فصحى Usage of قط
I have come across this word a few times in reading. I think it means "at all" in sentences like لم أكن قط أستحقها (I did not deserve her at all). Can some one explain how it is used? Is it pronounced like قَط?

General Has ANYONE here actually learned to understand native Arabic speakers?
So I've been lurking here for a bit and what seems to constantly repeat itself is that everyone struggles with understanding native speech. Has ANYONE here managed to understand regular fast Arabic in less than a year?
I'm at an A2 level in French from school, I can read basic Arabic script and pick out words in slow podcasts. I've only been at this for about 2 weeks though, but everyone on here struggling is making me a bit nervous
I know dialects make it harder. I know natives speak fast. But is it actually possible? Or am I setting myself up for years of nodding and pretending?
The only thing keeping me sane right now is my little 5 mins every day on Praktika/Anki. I set the speech level at a slower speed and just listen. No pressure. No embarrassment. I don't feel judged when I ask it to repeat something for the fifth time. It just says it again, a little slower.
But I'm worried it could be a bubble. Does understanding an app mean I will understand real people? Or am I just getting good at talking to a machine?

Standard فصحى What makes Arabic hard ?
Started Arabic 2 months ago, and obviously I'm on a beginner level that hasn't even touched on the proper vocabulary and grammar. Since Arabic is known as a very hard language, that takes a lot to master, I'm curious to know what are the most difficult aspects of the language to learn, so I can be prepared ?

General Good structured resources for Saudi Arabic
I spent early childhood in Dammam and have extended family in Riyadh. I spoke some Arabic as a small child but have since forgotten it. I’d love to start learning again. I do best with structure (so an online class and/or a textbook I can use on my own). Any recommendations for Saudi (Najdi) specifically? I plan on finding a tutor down the road but want something I can do on my own just to start.

General I need help in finding how to start
Hallo everybody,
I recently decided to start expanding my arabic skills and vocubalry, but I dont know where or how I should start strengthening my arabic.
The context of my problem:
I was taught the language so that I can read the Quran in arabic. I also was taught basic arabic gramar in writing. The focus of my education was only on the right pronounciation and recitation of the Quranic verses. Due to the facts that arabic is not my mother language and that I live in a western nation where the need of speaking arabic in daily life is minimal, I did not develop a good vocabulary in arabic. I can greed and say good bye to people, but I have a hard time in keeping small talk.
The fields I aim to strengthen are:
- My general vocabulary
- The reading of arabic text without the harakat
- My talking skills
- The increasing of arabic grammar

General Any tips? (kinda a long rant sorry)
Im in desperate need to learn arabic, esp as someone thats FULLY emirati (embarrassing ik.)
Throughout my entire childhood my parents always traveled to european countries (not permanently), mainly spoke to me in English, and never really introduced me to much arabic shows in my childhood.
When I became 9 years old my parents tried talking to me in arabic to teach me more about the language but since I was young and stubborn I always refused to speak it back. So they stopped and were very disappointed, telling me that its my fault and that I would suffer in the long term if I didnt learn from now on
Ive had multiple tutors but nothing really clicked, I also have ADHD which just makes everything harder. Even though my tutor was reading through stories with me and taught me new words from there I always seem to forget about it all a week after.
Now that im 14, I still barely understand much, I feel embarrassed when I have to speak it and stuff. I go to an American curriculum school in the UAE, meaning that theres a lot of things in english. But the thing is theres still 3 classes I have in arabic (Geography, islamic, and Arabic) and socially, many people in my class speak arabic to their friends because obviously theyre arab. I always feel so disappointed in myself because if I was a fast paced learner I would’ve been able to speak arabic with them and make a lot more friends, im only friends with people that mainly speak english there.
And though it may seem like I could just be friends with people that speak arabic to try learning from them, it wouldnt really work much since they aren’t the type to have conversations with the purpose of teaching. They just wanna speak to people normally, and im insecure with how I pronounce things though so I just keep my voice low when talking in arabic.
I also struggle with situations outside of school, like when I go to the hospital, the salon, or anything, the staff just talks to me in Arabic because im arab, but then they get concerned when I tell them I cant speak it. Not only that, even when I talk to people outside my country and tell them that im arab, they immediately assume that I speak arabic even though I cant, like literally, words cannot describe how dumb I feel. As an extrovert that loves being social, I literally can’t even be social from people in my own country, i’m excluded from EVERYTHING because of language barrier.. which now makes me classified as an introvert to others
I keep seeking for support but I can’t find much, my school did give me some ‘support’ but all they do is just cut off extra work I need to do in arabic class, but the remaining questions I have to solve are still beyond my comprehension. The teacher doesnt tell me much though she just tells me to try, and I swear im trying but I still can’t understand since im below average.
I do understand a bit when people speak arabic, but it mostly just applies to basic sentences, I cant speak on my own though, im still trying to practice speaking with confidence. I can read words but that doesnt mean I understand it.
So does anyone please have any recommendations? or maybe entertaining shows I could watch too? (mostly looking for emirati arabic ones,) it doesnt have to be childhood shows, it could also just be normal emirati shows that teens watch. Or just anything that could help me improve
Edit - Apologies, my response to your comments might be delayed because I got a fever and I feel tired all the time, but I appreciate all the tips you guys sent. I’ll respond to them when I hopefully get better
