Question Sonam sent the airnomads to the mountains, which means the next water avatar helped establish the air temples. I wonder why they chose just 4 locations, instead of occupying every mountain they can find?

Them scattered all across the world would have definitely helped them from going nearly extinct 🤧

Discussion What would be a better design for Raava/Vaatu instead of the kites?

Post image

While it never bothered me too much, I do agree with a lot of the criticisms that Raava and Vaatu could have a much better visual design than what we got. If they were to have a different form, should they appear more animal-like, or humanoid, or something completely different?

Discussion The Avatar can bend 4 elements, and then there's Korra with a 5th element : HANDS.

I’ve honestly forgotten so many moments that showcase Korra’s raw physical strength, agility, speed and ability to jump incredibly high without even using an element to propel herself.

Imagine having to fight the Avatar, only for her to decide that she’s throwing HANDS today. 😭💀

Discussion Knowing Aang doesn’t realize Sonam’s dream, but Korra does, really makes me tear up.

Post image

I don’t know how to really articulate it better, but this realization during the dialogues between Aang and Sonam in the film hit me emotionally more than anything else. Just something sad but beautiful that Aang couldn’t bring back his people and realize Sonam’s wish, but we know already with security the next avatar will do it, while his world and loved ones are still there to see it.

Image Full Count of Avatar Aang's Bending in Avatar Aang Movie

Was reminded of a post by u/Iwprecixx comparing Aang and Korra's bending usage a few years ago and decided to make my own for the Avatar Aang movie. For how I counted it, usage is defined as a distinct bending "move" or "action," regardless of duration or number of projectiles. If Aang shoots out two streams of fire in one action, it counts as one usage of fire. If more than one element is used at once in one action, it is counted for both. I will include a more detailed analysis in a comment.

To no surprise, Aang uses airbending the vast majority of the time at 68.7%, followed by earthbending, firebending, and waterbending used sparely. This is slightly better than his total average of 76.9% in the series when he was still learning the other elements. Although I probably missed a couple small usages of airbending as sometimes it's difficult to tell if Aang used some airbending for movement. It is technically true in the movie that earthbending is Aang's favored second element, but it's not used much more than the other elements. Aang uses an airbending jump at least 34 times. He bends at least 147 times.

Discussion I wish the fandom talked more about Avatar’s friendships and family bonds

Something I’ve noticed about Avatar fandom discussions is that whenever relationships come up, the conversation almost immediately turns into shipping.

And don’t get me wrong, I like shipping too. But ATLA was never primarily a romance story. Its structure feels much closer to a shonen adventure, where friendship, family, mentorship and found family are just as important, if not more important, than romance. Avatar has SO many incredible relationships that barely get discussed anymore because everything eventually gets filtered through a shipping lens.

Zuko and Iroh are probably the biggest example. Their relationship is one of the emotional backbones of ATLA. Iroh wasn’t just Zuko’s uncle, he became his mentor, parental figure and arguably the most important person in his life. Without Iroh, I honestly don’t think we get the redemption arc we got. Their reunion still makes me emotional every time.

Then there’s Aang and Zuko. Their friendship becomes incredibly symbolic by the end. The Avatar and the Fire Lord becoming genuine friends after a century of war represents the possibility of the world finally healing. Not to mention how Aang saved him from freezing to death even though he was still his enemy at the time or their Parallels in The Awakening and their Dragon Dance… Tbh the Firebending Master is another great Episode in Zuko’s redemption arc, but gets overshadowed by the Southern Raiders. But I love seeing that bond continued into adulthood, with Zuko dropping everything to be there for Aang and becoming one of his strongest defenders.

Katara and Toph are another dynamic I wish people talked about more. They clash because they’re complete opposites, but that’s what makes their friendship interesting. In The Runaway, Toph basically admits that even though Katara annoys her, she appreciates how much she cares about her. Katara also learns to meet Toph halfway instead of constantly trying to control her.

LOK has this too. Korra and Tenzin’s relationship is one of my favorites in the franchise. They frustrate each other constantly, but over time they become incredibly important to each other. Korra learns to trust him as a mentor, while Tenzin learns that guiding her also means letting her become her own kind of Avatar.
Even Korra and Toph deserve more love. Their time together is short, but Toph helps Korra stop running from what happened to her and start confronting the trauma she has been carrying. Special Mention of the Cloud Siblings and them reconnecting and walking together.

And now Seven Havens continues that focus beyond romance. Pavi and Nisha’s relationship as sisters is obviously central, but we also have Jae becoming something like an older brother and Karthik becoming more than just a mentor, almost filling a father figure role. Those relationships give the girls support, protection and a sense of family while they’re being thrown into an increasingly dangerous world.

That’s something I really love about Avatar.

Romance matters, but it has never been the only form of love that matters.

Sometimes the relationship that changes a character’s entire life is their uncle, mentor, sibling, best friend or someone who simply becomes family.

I just wish fandom discussions gave those relationships the same energy we give ships, because some of the most emotionally important relationships in this franchise were never romantic at all.

Discussion Predictions for Team Avatar Spoiler

Ok, my predictions for who will leave Ellora and travel with Nisha or Pavi ( or both of them together).

  1. Jae (obviously), he's the theme narrator.
  2. Karthik. He has enough enemies in Ellora now.
  3. Agam. She's a sand bender, super helpful in the harshlands, and she was planning to leave anyway.
  4. Daemin. Honestly, he hasn't done much, he's listed because he's on the poster.
  5. Zi if she follows Daemin for dinner.
  6. Amow as a wildcard. We need a non-bender on the team. And this kid is entertaining.

I don't think Uki will actually leave Ellora. I think once benders have more freedom she'll stay for her family.

I don't think Hamka or Shilpa will leave.

I don't think we'll see Yaoko or Datu again after this season. Maybe a cameo.

*****

Edit: I agree with the idea of Karthik and Agam being mainly older mentors and not official team avatar members. But I think they'll at least need some help getting to th second haven and through the harshlands.

*****

Discussion People who hate the new symbols this is for you

Post image
1.8k Upvotes

I don’t know if this is discussed already, but what I love about seven havens is that it forced me to go a trip down memory lane and watched ATLA again. Particularly about the episodes of Aang learning chakras and toph learning metal bending. And zuko trying to learn lightning generation but learning redirection instead.

Now while these 2 are separate episodes, they both embody what Iroh told zuko, “It is important to draw wisdom from many different places, if we take it only from one place, it becomes rigid and stale, understanding the other elements would help you”

This indeed helped iroh develop a technique because of his observations about waterbending.

Guru pathik on the other hand, said to aang that all nations are the same but living as if they are divided. I think these themes would be explored very well in the seven havens where different places are isolated and aren’t contacting each other.

About the symbols, watching guru pathik explains chakras as a swirling pool of energy inside the body kind of explains why the elemental symbols of aang’s Time always have these swirling symbols. Even iroh mentioned that when redirecting lightning, it should go through the stomach where a pool of energy is located.

As for the new elemental symbols, you could see that the design became rigid (no curves) and stale just like what iroh discussed.

These things are merely speculation on my part but we cannot ignore that there’s a connected between these things

Discussion Am I the Only One With this Interpretation?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Seeing lots of people online lately that seem very upset with the apparent “nerfing” of Team Avatar in the recent movie. The main two points I’ve seen being used to make this point are:

  1. Tagah solos the whole team (minus Aang, but then later also beats Aang).
  2. The Denied are able to be at least a match for the team, instantly after being granted airbending.

So, given both these events, and also the backstory about how Sonam’s staff was so extra special because it was supercharged with the energy of the entire spirit world…am I really the only one who interpreted it as the staff effectively giving them SUPERCHARGED airbending powers?

Like at least in my view, it seems that getting power from the staff is more or less a cheat code that instantly gives you insane bending chops. Given how important and powerful Sonam’s staff is made out to be…it kind of seemed obvious?

Discussion In A7H, am I the only one who finds that waterbending/ water tribe is one of the most mysterious one currently? Spoiler

Genuinely something is off from the song having connections to the watertribe ,then waterbending is the one they showcase the least among all bendings in the show, and Deamin is the mysterious white lotus member who didn't train Nisha and Pavi on waterbending so far, and how Nisha's test, waterbending is the one she didn't even get a chance to be tested on.

I feel like I'm crazy but all this can't be a coincidence, is it??

Discussion What if Tagah was awoken in Korra’s time.

It’s just an interesting insight into his potential mindset in this world. Assuming it takes place after the events of book four it would be interesting to see how he comes to terms with a world more advanced than even Aang’s time. Where spirits and people live together, nations are far more blended than they’ve ever been and where the avatar is a Waterbender. How would he resolve the cognitive dissonance of having disdain for any non airbender whilst accepting the fact that a Waterbending avatar was responsible for bringing the Air nation back. Would the whole ploy of getting Sonam’s staff be as successful or less and how would Zaheer react to his existence. What would a potential interaction between Zaheer and Tagah look like.

Like, everyone knew exactly what to do without even needing to communicate much. Their teamwork was incredible, and Aang was absolutely goated in this scene!

I could rewatch this moment over and over again and never get tired of it.

Zuko was out of his mind for sending that literal death machine after the Gaang. Like, wth?! They accepted him into the group way too quickly considering what he put them through.

Image Was Guru Pathik the only person from Roku's time still alive during Aang's (after Katara unfroze him)? Could this have been a reason why the writers severed her past connections?

Discussion thread to talk about the possibility that they ripped away Korra's past lives because she had "enough" people from Aang's time, whereas Aang had nobody left from Roku's? And every other Avatar about whom we've learned so far had both....... now, Pavi and Nisha (so far as we know) will only have Korra?
