What size bike is this?

Apologies if this is a dumb question. I just restored this bike. It is a 2005 trek madone 5.2. on the dropouts it claims it is a 58cm frame. From crank to seat collar it measures as 56cm. Standing next to it/looking at it it seems to be smaller than that. I know I'm an idiot, but am I dumb for being confused by this thing?

Do not say a WORD about the pedals they are a placeholder

Drivers don't pay attention unless you sound like a big vehicle, so is this setup possible?

The pic is ai gen btw, what I had in mind is to get a single truck horn and get maybe a 0.5 litre fire extinguisher and maybe drill some attachment so a bycycle pump could refill it, and a valve or some psi regulator to fine tune if i wanna the tank to last longer or I want the honk to be louder.

And a some electronic button attached to the handles.

Tbh I never done a dyi project but I was never satisfied with small bicycle horns they soud very high pitched, and most drivers even pedestrians subconsciously ignore them cause it sounds like a bicycle not a car or a truck.

I also once got my hands on a. Truck horn and i replaced the diaphragm with thin plastic from a book cover and i was able to blow extremly loud with my mouth only, so I think the whole idea is doable.

Best repair for tubes

It’s made for car tyres but this is probably the biggest life saver, beats any other slime or bicycle tube sealant. For presta valves you do need to carry an adapter to shrader but works fine

Is this worth it for a bike that’s over 20 years old?

In talks with the seller now inquiring about the exact age and service history, what’s your honest opinion? I’m planning on actually riding it and not hanging it on a wall and not sure if it’s even worth it.

Opinions on this bike, please!

I'm looking for a second opinion on this bike. It looks a bit old school to me, and can't decide if that's in a good or bad way... I like that it comes with either mechanical 105 or Campagnolo Chorus and it's pretty light, which in itself is old school, and I think that might be influencing my opinion too much.

Behold, the latest iteration of my commuter/light tourer/ and more recently: dad-bike. I kind of botched the bar tape, but we'll see how long it holds.

Altus shifters, sora derailleurs and cranks, cheapest shimano hydraulic brakes I could find, and Ergotec space bugel handlebars.

Bike weight limit

Greetings! I am interested in a bike similar to Giant Contend AR. (ALL road bike that can take wide tyres) Or a versatile Gravel like the Revolt or the Via Nirone 7 GRX. But what is the weight limit on these bikes? If it says 100kg weigh limit it means it will snap in half? I weight more than 120kg. So what brand i should aim for? I like aluminum with carbon fork. Or i misunderstood something with the weight limit? What bikes you recommend please? I will use it as a daily and training and brevet/audax. Thank you.

Power2max power meter crank replacement cover help

Thumbnail

Hello all! I recently bought a TT bike on Facebook Marketplace with a power2max power meter crankset. The previous owner tried to replace the batteries and accidentally ripped off the battery cover.

I found a replacement cover for $10 on the manufacturer’s website, but comparing the damage with the replacement part, I’m not sure whether a new cover alone will fix it. I’m also concerned about what looks like a USB-C port that appears to be partially blocked by a torn piece of the cover.

Has anyone dealt with similar damage on one of these power meters? I’d appreciate any advice on whether the replacement cover would work or whether it needs a more involved repair.

Diamondback Inspire 1 Worth Repairing?

Post image

I had this when I was a kid way back when, and was looking to maybe get back into riding it. I put many of miles on this thing, but due to life, It has sat in garage for the last 5 or so years. One of the spokes is broken on the rear wheel, and I suspect the wheel isn't exactly true. Everything else worked the last time I rode it (and popped a spoke jumping up a curb)

I was thinking about getting new wheels and tires for it, maybe something a little wider (700x40??) to ride down some abandoned rail "walking" paths the locals have carved out over the years, and the backroads between my house and town. I even thought about adding some drop bars and a better seat if it makes sense.

would it also worth finding a cheap bike? I am not sure if riding a bike is something I would do as a hobby, but as a cheap fun mode of transportation from place to place in town without taking my truck.

Thanks for the advice guys

I raided my parts bin for wheels, tires, tubes, grips, a seat, and threw on some cheapo Walmart pedals. It rides beautifully so I’ll be taking it on a dirt road run in a couple of days. Still need to replace the recalled cranks (thanks Reddit peeps for alerting me to this issue)!

New-to-me 2004 Lemond Tourmalet Triple (mint condition)

Edit: first pic is after I stripped down the frame. 2nd pic is in a *mostly original state from purchase

I saw this on Facebook marketplace for a great price and impulsively bought it as fast as I could. Upon arriving, the seller told me the story of how she bought it new in 2004 to do a cross-country ride with friends. After this ride, she decided cycling wasn’t for her, and it sat in the garage ever since. The frame and all components are basically mint condition, and for this reason I felt the need to pay the full $300 listing price instead of the $250 we negotiated down to.

As it sat in my room while I was at work, I thought about what I’m going to do with this bike. Eventually, I decided to do a full rebuild upgrade to it: modern 105 drivetrain, bb, new hub/wheels, new bars, basically new everything. I bought the wheels, hub, bars and shifters, the derailleurs and crankset are takeoffs from my retired 2020 orbea avant and new soloist.

I’m extremely hyped to do this build.

More about the bike. It’s 6066 aluminum, and VERY light weight. Lighter than my full carbon cervelo soloist. During my short test ride the night I bought it, it’s quick. Faster than I expected a bike this old to be. The frame leans towards an endurance fit (by 2004 standards) but as you can see, there is ALOT of room to lower that stem. I intent of leaving it high for now to maintain its endurance feel.

Are cameras worth it to tackle bad driving in the UK?

• Upvotes

(Apologies for the essay:

1.Essentially I'm looking for bike camera recommendations. Especially if anyone has used Chilli tech cameras.

  1. People's experiences of filming rides and reporting bad driving in the UK.)

Hi all,

I'm looking for recommendations for bike cameras front and rear and people's experiences of filming whilst riding and reporting bad driving in the UK. I've seen that chilli tech do front and rear for a price in prepared to pay (below £150 for both front and rear), has anyone here got those and are they any good?

Is it worth it, does having a camera and reporting become a burden? Are they annoying to use and do the police actually do anything about it?

I ask this because instances where drivers frivolously put my life at risk are becoming more an more frequent. When I first started commuting to work about 15 years ago I might have 1 near miss a month. Now it is a daily occurrence and instances where people don't put my life at risk but do weird, silly or stupid things to either assert some kind of dominance or simply to try and piss me off have increased massively. I normally laugh most of this behaviour off but it is starting to grind me down. Hence why I'm looking into gather a bit of evidence and report it.

Just today a learner lorry driver overtook me on a 13% slope (uphill) with a blind left hand bend over the crest with parked cars either side. When a car on the other side inevitably came around the corner he cut in and almost put me under his back left wheel.

What strikes me about this is if it is a learner why did an instructor allow them  to do this in the first place? If they let them do it why didn't they make them stop immediately afterwards and tell them they almost killed someone. Or if a learner wasn't in the driver seat then an instructor engaged in this kind of driving behaviour which is crazy! I didn't get their reg number because I was too busy trying not to die. The side of the lorry was blank too without a company name.

In the same ride today I had other vehicles doing 9000 revs steaming past only to stop at a red light 50 metres away and another person in the same red light queue see me and then pull into the kerb to try and block me from coming past (I simply filtered around them the other side).

It's all very weird and kind of worrying. I ride expecting people to do stupid stuff so no one can surprise me but at this point I fully expect that at some point someone is going to knock me off.

Anyway, thanks for any suggestions or insight into the actual filming and reporting side.

Maxing out tire clearance on a Trek FX 2!

Hey everyone! I had a great debate about whether larger gravel tires would actually fit on a Trek FX 2 frame. Officially, the clearance is quite conservative, but I wanted to test the limits. Here is my current setup that actually works amazingly well:

Front: Teravail Rutland 700x47c (Fits with plenty of clearance on the fork!)

Rear: Maxxis Rambler 700x38c (Safe clearance near the chainstays and front derailleur)

If you're looking to turn your hybrid into a more capable gravel all-road machine, this staggered setup is a game-changer. Sharing in case anyone else was wondering if it's possible!
