Question. Why is it not allowed to post a video on YouTube with licensed music and yet...
...on FB Marketplace, one can list a stolen bike without any issue?
I'm sure FB is aware of this, but it's a pretty simple solution. Every bike owner should be able to register their bike -- through serial # -- on FB Marketplace. When someone goes to list a bike, and the serial number belongs to someone else, either they can't list it, or have to face consequences.
Also, this can only apply to bikes listed over a certain amount. Anyone selling a high-end road bike should have no problem retrieving/revealing the serial number for the sale. This system does not have to apply to a 50 dollar kids bike.
In Los Angeles, there are few places to sell bikes. FB Marketplace, OfferUP, Craigslist, and that's pretty much it. If you've stolen a 7K road bike, you won't get much from the guy on the corner, and pawn shops -- via law -- can no longer accept goods without an ID; and so the few I called said they don't accept bikes anymore. Most bike shops also do NOT buy bikes anymore.
So, if the thief is left with few avenues, let's simply create road blocks. I dunno, feels like a simple solution to prevent thousands of bikes from being stolen.
