If you have not yet registered to vote yet, early voting in NC is your final chance to do so. Early voting is from October 15th to October 31st. As of right now NC only allows you to register if you early vote at the same time. The deadline to register and vote on election day has passed.
This website is where you can check your voter information, sample ballot, and if your mail-in ballot was accepted:
In NC you must have a photo ID to vote, but if you don't you can fill out an exemption form and cast a provisional ballot. You can see the details here:
https://www.ncsbe.gov/voting/voter-id
Here is where you can find early voting sites in NC for your specific county:
During early voting you can vote anywhere in your county. This differs from election day voting where you must vote at your assigned voting place.

Hello! I recently moved to North Carolina from California and I am not familiar with the area at all. I’ve been checking out what kind of stores I have around me and my options look like Walmart, Food Lion, or Piggly Wiggly. I’m familiar with Walmart although I didn’t really use it in Cali bc we had a cheaper option w better produce nearby. But I cannot figure out the difference between Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly. I was wondering what native North Carolinians views were. And any other advice you have at all honestly. My husband is military so we’re currently living in New Bern but he’s already talking abt moving to Morehead after our lease is up bc he loves the ocean. I’m very happy with how beautiful everywhere has been tho! And it’s so nice and quiet here it’s so much nicer than being in a packed city!

At approx. 9:30 this morning, Jonathan D. Miller, the Libertarian candidate for District 16's NC Senate seat, sent out a tweet stating:
The whole police department is chasing me with guns drawn. This should be fun.
Since then, he has been sporadically posting about having six shots and the high ground. The last post was about 45 minutes ago, as of my writing this, stating
I fucked up and talked to the negotiator on the phone long enough for them to box me in. They have dogs so I'm probably done for.
I've not seen anything on the news about this yet, but the standoff is apparently happening in Cary near the Whole Foods according to a post in r/raleigh (link) so keep an eye out if you live out that way.
EDIT 4:30 PM: As of a few minutes ago, WRAL is reporting that Miller is in custody following a multi-hour standoff in Cary's Lochmere neighborhood. Link

Remember to vote the entire ballot. A couple of cycles ago Cheri Beasley lost by 401 votes statewide. Some 2000 voters in Durham County didn't vote the entire ballot.
Also: hopefully only one more week of those blasted texts and emails from politicians from across the nation pleading for money.

Make sure yall get out and vote! Do the research, learn about what each individual wants to do for you and others! You can’t help make changes when you sit around and don’t get out and vote!

Hello everyone. I’m reaching out on behalf of my partner to see if anyone can recommend a knowledgeable family law attorney or legal resource in North Carolina, preferably in the Charlotte or Mecklenburg County area. I’m keeping identifying details private to protect everyone involved.
My partner has been involved in several years of divorce and custody litigation. In May 2026, the North Carolina Court of Appeals vacated the trial court’s equitable distribution and alimony rulings and remanded those issues for further proceedings.
The case is currently focused on the remand, while several other matters remain pending, including a child support modification, a Rule 60(b) motion concerning the existing custody order, and a civil contempt matter for which a hearing has been requested.
We have been advised that these matters may be addressed after the remand proceedings are completed and the case returns to the judge who previously handled them. We are looking for guidance on the available procedural options and how to navigate these pending matters appropriately.
Due to the length and expense of the litigation, my partner has experienced significant financial hardship and has been representing himself (pro se) because retaining an attorney has become financially difficult. Given the complexity of the proceedings and the number of issues still requiring attention, we are actively looking for pro bono legal representation or an attorney who may be willing to take on the case through a reduced-fee arrangement.
I would especially appreciate recommendations for:
Pro bono family law attorneys who handle complex cases involving appellate remands, equitable distribution, and alimony.
Legal aid organizations, law school clinics, or other programs that may assist individuals who cannot afford private counsel.
Attorneys who offer reduced fees, payment plans, or affordable consultations.
Attorneys experienced in custody modifications, Rule 60(b) motions, and civil contempt proceedings.
If you know of an organization that considers cases based on financial need, or an attorney who may be willing to review the circumstances, I would be grateful for a referral. We understand that not every case qualifies for free representation, but we want to explore every legitimate option available.
Thank you for your time and any recommendations or resources you can share. I truly appreciate the help in connecting us with the right people.

Hi! My husband and I (DINKS) are looking to move to the NC coast without being beachfront or in crowded or constantly high-traffic areas. I've done some research, and New Bern and Shallotte have become my top two contenders. Pros and cons of both areas? Is one preferable to the other?
I work remotely, but my husband would be seeking a job. Thanks for any help!
