❔Question Is a 2017 Mustang GT Base, 6-speed manual, with 90k miles worth $19k?

• Upvotes

I’m looking at a 2017 Ford Mustang GT Base with the 5.0L V8, 6-speed manual transmission, 90,000 miles, a clean title, and an asking price of $19,000.
The seller says the engine has never been tuned and that the clutch was just replaced.

❔Question Anyone put a 1 piece driveshaft in an S650 manual yet?

Can’t find much info on this online. There’s so much slop and clunkiness at low speeds in 1st, I am not sure if this is because of the two piece DS or not.

Anyone that did this, was it worth it for the price tag?

🛒 Car Shopping New Edge vs. S197 Mustang V6 as a First Car — Which Would You Choose?

I'm thinking about getting a V6 Mustang as my first car, and I'm trying to decide between the New Edge (1999–2004) and the S197 (2005–2014).

I've always liked Mustangs because they're American cars, and I like their styling and history. I remember seeing a Mustang in one of the Bullitt movies, which helped get me interested in them, even though it wasn't necessarily one of these exact generations.

I'm around 5'5"–5'6", so I'm also curious about how comfortable these cars are for someone my height. I don't need a ton of passenger space, and I do school online, so I don't have a daily school commute.

I'm mainly interested in the V6 versions because I want something fun to drive without the extra costs that can come with a V8.

For people who have owned or driven these Mustangs, I'd like to know:

  • Which generation has the more reliable V6 engine?
  • Which is cheaper to maintain and repair?
  • How different are the performance and fuel economy?
  • Are there any common problems I should know about?
  • Which one is more comfortable and enjoyable to drive every day?
  • Would you recommend either generation to someone buying their first car?

I'm willing to learn basic maintenance and do some repairs myself, but I'd prefer something that won't constantly give me problems.

If you had to choose between a New Edge V6 and an S197 V6 for a first car, which would you pick and why? I'd appreciate hearing from people who have real experience with these cars.

❔Question what quick detailer spray are you using between washes?

By day four or five after washing my car, it's already looking dusty again. i had like to keep a quick detailer spray in the garage for a five-minute wipe-down rather than dragging the hose out every time. Nothing fancy, just something that can remove light dust and keep the car looking clean between washes.

❔Question New to Mustangs advice?

Hey folks, moved to California from Ireland for work, and It's always been a dream of mine to own a mustang. I have no specific year or style in mind, wouldn't mind a convertible. My budget is around 15-18k max, but to be honest, anything less is welcome too. Is that a reasonable budget, what are some good years for reliability, I have driven old cars all my life so not oppose to older years either? I am not super fussed on power, I just want something that's nice to drive around in and explore more of the US in.

❔Question 2019 Mustang Convertible – Cylinder 2 Misfire / Coolant Intrusion. Ford Wants $4K Just to Tear It Apart. Any Advice?

y’all, I need some advice.

I have a 2019 Mustang convertible with around 80K miles. It’s my second car, so I barely even drive it. Maybe 1,000 miles a year, if that. It’s mostly just sitting there looking cute until family comes into town or I feel like taking it out.

Anyway, I need to renew my registration, and of course, I gotta get a smog check every year. Only problem is my check engine light is on.

So I took it to Firestone. They fixed what they could, but there were two issues they couldn’t figure out:

* PCM fault
* Cylinder #2 misfire

They told me I’d have to take it to Ford.

Cool. Took it to Ford, paid the $200 diagnostic fee, and these people came back telling me it would cost $4,000 just to tear the engine apart to figure out what’s wrong. Mind you, that’s BEFORE any actual repairs.

Yeah, no. I’m good on that. 😂

So I declined. Then, magically, the next day they called saying they think it’s coolant intrusion and that I might need a cylinder head repair.

Like, okay, so now y’all have an idea of what’s wrong?

Here’s my thing. I’m not trying to get rid of this car. It’s my second vehicle, I barely put miles on it, and I’d honestly like to keep it another 5–8 years. I don’t see the point of trading it in and taking on another car payment when I already have something I like.

I’m guessing the car is worth somewhere around $10K–$13K, so dropping thousands at the dealership just for them to possibly figure it out doesn’t sit right with me.

So I gotta ask y’all:

  1. Has anybody with a 2019 Mustang dealt with this cylinder misfire or coolant intrusion issue?
  2. Did you actually need a cylinder head repair, or did it turn out to be something simpler?
  3. Would I be better off finding a solid independent mechanic who knows Mustangs instead of dealing with Ford?
  4. Would buying the parts myself save money, or should I let the mechanic handle that?
  5. If you’ve had this issue, how much did you end up paying?

I’m not against paying to get my car fixed. I just refuse to throw $4K at a dealership for them to start taking stuff apart without even knowing what the final bill is gonna look like.

And I’m definitely not trying to trade in a perfectly good-looking Mustang just because of one check engine light.

What would y’all do? Anybody been through this? I’m just trying to get this thing fixed, pass smog, and keep my car without getting played on the repair costs. 😂

Appreciate any advice!

Just got my mustang today and switching between it and my Vette is a huge difference in feel. I believe it has a short throw shifter, but the clutch pedal feels heavier, and the grab point feels a bit smaller than my Vette. Anyway to fix this? Glad to be back in a mustang

❔Question 99 Mustang GT losing coolant

I am having an issue with my 1999 Ford Mustang GT I am losing coolant I can’t find any leaks anywhere. This has been a problem for a while now. About a year ago I replaced the intake manifold because the plastic crossover was cracked and replaced it with an updated intake with a metal crossover seemed to fix it but the problem for a while but gradually it started to come back again. The past few days the car starts up with a misfire and puffs thick white smoke from the exhaust and from what I can tell smells like coolant. The misfire and smoke goes away after it runs for a little bit. Today the same thing happened but there was a lot more smoke and the smoke wouldn’t stop so I didn’t drive it. These were the exact symptoms that led me to replace my intake manifold with the updated one about a year ago and I’m confused why the problem is back now. I am trying to figure out if it is an intake issue again but I don’t see how it could be since I replaced it with one that would prevent that issue or if it is a head gasket issue. Maybe the intake bolts came loose causing it to not seal well anymore? My oil and coolant don’t look milky. Any help would be appreciated before I decide to tear it down.

❔Question Mustang ecoboost preventive maintenance

As the title says I’m looking at some preventive maintenance if needed on my 2022 ford mustang ecoboost that is at 48k miles.

When that 50k miles strikes, I would like to be on top of it, I drive it pretty hard, and it’s FBO tuned at the moment. I keep up with all oil changes / normal maintenance things. But I’m talking maintenance on a larger scale. Any suggestions would help!

❔Question S550 Ecoboost as a daily?

Hello everyone. I’m considering getting an S550 manual as a daily. I want a fun manual car with 4 seats that’s relatively good on gas. I currently daily an F150 that I got an offer that’s too good to pass up on. I also have a few other mustangs including a 65 with a 289, an S197 3v 5spd and a S650 with the 5.0 and the 10 speed. As someone who previously owned RX-7s and Miata’s I kind of wanted something a bit more nimble and have narrowed my search down to an S550 ecoboost or a BRZ86 variant. Can anyone give me any insight on their s550 ownership? I would prefer not to sell any of the other cars because they have sentimental value to me.
