Success Story Got Engaged to my Bumble Match!

Post image
303 Upvotes

Me (F 28), and my now fiancé (M 33), met through Bumble in 2023 in NYC. I came across his profile and genuinely thought he was a catfish. So, bored out of my mind, I swiped, we matched, just so I could see what would happen. Don't ask on why, I just wanted to see on the purpose of this profile (idk if i thought i was a detective). However, his socials matched, and he was verified. We started talking and I realized quickly we had the same humor. My prompt was biggest fear, where my answer was "getting called out at a comedy show". Our first date? A comedy show, where we kept getting called out.

Almost 4 years later now, we've lived in 3 different places, 2 different states, adopted a dog, and started a tiny house airbnb. This past Saturday, he asked me to marry him on a beautiful hike during our trip to Wisconsin.❤️

General I removed my height from Bumble and my match rate dropped by 33%

I am a male and recently decided to run a little experiment on Bumble to see how much height actually matters.

I had been using Bumble for about 4 months with my height listed (6 feet / 1.83 m), which is tall for my country. I requested my data from Bumble and found that my match rate was around 9%.

Then I decided to hide my height and kept using the app for another 2 months without changing anything else. Same pictures, same bio, same location.

After those 2 months, I requested my data again and calculated my match rate for that period. It had dropped to around 6%, which is a 33% decrease. (6% only those 2 months)

Obviously, this isn’t a controlled scientific experiment, and other factors could be involved, but I thought the difference was pretty interesting, I really wanted to know if people liked me more by my personality and not “physical attributes”.

Has anyone else tried something similar? Curious to hear your experiences.

Rant I'm losing hope for pessimistic guys who complain here that they do poorly on dating apps and believe they lack agency. It might really just be over them.

Not even because they CAN'T succeed but rather because they're too stubborn.

Almost any time a guy complains about not doing well online, I look at his profile, KNOW the issue, suggest a change or will even make the change for them, and then they either won't apply it or will super half-ass it.

It's like they care more to be right in their shitty worldview than actually dating women.

Also selfish as fuck behavior when someone takes the time to help you out and you're too egotistical to even try it because you think you're smarter than everyone.

In a sense, this might be a good thing. The trash is taking itself out. Imagine a woman having to deal with them in a relationship.

Success Story Bumble date showed me 5k likes on her account.

1.6k Upvotes

Just wanted to share a crazy perspective shift I had recently.

I matched with this really cute girl on Bumble a bit ago. The texting was super slow from the start. At one point, she literally took 10 days to reply to a message. I didn’t double text or freak out, I just let it sit and replied at my own pace whenever she finally got back to me.

We eventually set up a first date and the in person vibe was great. We ended up losing track of time and just talking about random things for 3 hours and cafe hopping.

During the date, we got on the topic of dating apps. She casually mentioned her experience, opened her phone, and showed me her profile, she had over 5,000 likes sitting in her queue 😂. I usually get around 20 to 30 likes max, the sheer volume of guys was crazy to comprehend like she handpicked me out of thousands of guys. Like winning the sperm race ?

I asked here a few weeks ago about my photos. I’ve taken the plunge and signed up to Hinge (I know this is Bumble but I feel like there’s more traffic here). What do you guys think of this profile? I didn’t want to come across too full on or too serious, but I am looking for something serious, potentially a life partner. A life shared is a life well lived! All feedback welcome, good and bad. I picked photos that I think look nice but I always include a “no make-up” photo to avoid nasty surprises!

Rant If you're not interested anymore, just unmatch instead of keeping someone hanging

Honestly, I wish people on dating apps would stop acting like basic communication is some huge responsibility. I'm not expecting constant replies or someone to be available 24/7, but there's a difference between being busy and disappearing right when a conversation starts getting interesting.

What annoys me most is when someone puts effort into matching, asks questions, seems genuinely interested, and then suddenly turns into a completely different person. If you've changed your mind, that's fine. If you met someone else, that's fine too. Nobody owes a stranger a relationship, but a little honesty shouldn't be that difficult.

And please stop sending mixed signals just because you enjoy the attention. Some people are actually on Bumble hoping to meet someone, not collect matches they'll occasionally message whenever they're bored.

You don't have to be interested in everyone, but you should at least be honest about your intentions. Dating is already uncertain enough without people making it unnecessarily confusing.

I'd genuinely respect someone more for saying they're not feeling a connection than for keeping a conversation alive with one-word replies until the other person finally gives up.

Rant Had a fantastic connection today, then poof... profile deleted 🙃

Just need a quick vent because modern dating is cray cray.

Matched with a handsome guy today and we genuinely clicked, great banter, proper flirting aand we’d been chatting pretty much all day. He was honestly the only person I’ve swiped right on recently who I was actually excited to talk to.

I went back to check tonight and his whole account is gone. Not even just an unmatch, full-on deleted.

I know people delete apps on a whim for all sorts of reasons (cold feet, overwhelm, ex drama or just realising they aren't ready) but the sudden ghost stings when you finally feel a genuine spark with someone.

I don't deal brilliantly with sudden rejection/disappearance so it's left me feeling proper deflated tonight.. lol.

TL;DR -Matched with a nice guy, chatted and had good chemistry all day and then ghosted me.

Please tell me your best (or weirdest) sudden vanishing stories so I don't feel so alone! ☕✨

This should be more common for us dudes who want to enjoy some real nice food. I’m not really a coffee person and currently avoiding alcohol due to being a lifter. Like we gonna get to connect and eat some good ass chicken and fries 🦧

I’m a Bumble Premium member, and the app is showing me ZERO women! 😂

I’ve set my preferences to women aged 20–80 and the maximum distance, but still nothing.

What the hell is going on? Is Bumble broken, or am I missing something? 🤣

31M Australia - 2.5 years of Bumble stats with a 6 month relationship in the middle where I had the app deleted. I didn’t think I was this picky. Roughly 20 matches in this time but most just never responded. I have a feeling the last photo is too much but it was at the end of a competition prep and a personal goal I was super proud of.

I know a few apps hand this issue. And that's when. Someone sends you a message then unmatches.

The apps should still keep the messages up so you can see what was said.

Advice Losing interest in dating

• Upvotes

I am a 23M and I have been on dating apps consistently since the moment I turned 18. Despite that, I have never been in a long-term relationship. Lately I have been feeling like if it hasn't happened by now it's not going to happen. That attitude is making me less attracted to women overall too. It's been a long time since I saw a profile I was legitimately interested in and wanted to match with. I used to see tons of super cool women on there that I'd be dying to match with but now I don't feels anything. Even in real life I noticed that I stopped feeling attracted to other women I see out and about. And no, I don't feel attracted to men at all.

I still send out my likes every day but I care less and less each time. In the past week or so, a few of my matches have unmatched after my first message. I wasn't saying anything strange to them, only asking a question about something they had in their prompts or bio. Normally I'd feel disappointed when I'd get unmatched or ghosted but lately I've felt relieved as it meant I didn't have to waste time trying to force myself to like them.

I'm not sure why I'm posting this or what I'm looking for but if anybody has felt the same I'd love to hear about it.

App Help My new account has been blocked, yet I have not received a refund for my premium subscription.

After years of using Bumble without any issues, my account was randomly blocked a month ago. I recently created a new account and paid ¥7,000 for a 3-month Premium plan, only to have the new account automatically blocked within hours.

Apple rejected my refund requests twice, even though I was given zero access to the service I paid for. Taking payment for a subscription and immediately locking the account without providing a refund feels completely unacceptable. Is anyone else experiencing this with Bumble?

Funny She showed me a picture of the other guy.

TLDR: this dude is wayyyyy more attractive than I am.

I marked this as funny because after the initial horror, I’m laughing.

For context, I’m an American and I’m currently enjoying my fifth and final week of a stint in Spain.

A couple of weeks before I came here I switched my Bumble location to where I’m staying in Spain. It’s a great place, but not exactly known for its red hot dating scene. So I figured I’d need some lead time to make matches and actually be able to date them (please, Spanish women, please give me a reason to stay! I love it here so much).

I got a few likes, but only one match. I started talking to her when I was still at home in the States, and after a little bit we set up our first date on the same day I got to her city.

She’s SO sweet. Super warm and friendly and patient with my imperfect Spanish and the conversation flows wonderfully. During the conversation on the first date she told me that she was seeing another guy. And, you know, it’s Bumble, we’re all seeing whoever until we declare otherwise. No big deal. I like her, I want to keep seeing her, I kept asking her out, and we kept meeting up. I figure if she liked the other guy more, she’d be with him instead of me on any given evening.

Things have progressed, we’ve spent a lot of time together, gotten more and more intimate, she’s telling me about dreams of hers in which I’ve appeared, we talk every day even if we don’t see each other. Even though we’ve gotten more and more emotionally and physically intimate over the last several weeks, we haven’t had sex. Shes traditional/conservative and I’m respectful and I’ve made it clear that I’m down whenever she’s ready and that’s where it is right now. I’m sincerely enjoying our time together. It’s been really nice. Though it’s no secret that there’s another guy. I don’t think they’re fucking because again, she’s conservative, and also she volunteers information along those lines and she hasn’t told me. I’ve never asked about him because a) as long as she and I haven’t made anything official, she has every right to date whoever she wants; and b) I sincerely don’t want to know anything about him or them. I do appreciate that she’s honest, but I’m not interested in the details.

A little bit about me: physically, I’m a giant bear of a man. 6’4”, shaved head, bold eyebrows, soft brown eyes, reddish brown full beard with a few greys starting to hint that I’m pushing 40. I’m fat for sure, but also I work out regularly and do heavy weight training, so even though I’m fat I’m not, like, pear-shaped. At home I’m a big dude, but everything and everyone is smaller in Spain, and so here I’m a freak show giant. As far as non-physical things: I’m charming and funny and well educated and versed in art and literature. I act and dress like a gentleman out of a sense of self esteem. And by no means am I short of money. In other words, I approach dating with a lot of confidence knowing that I have a lot to offer.

We went to a bar tonight, I introduced her to some close friends of mine here, later we went back to my place, and we were just sitting and talking. She was talking about something and showed me a picture on her phone related to the topic. Then another picture (of her niece) just because. Then, super casually, she held up her phone and said “oh here is the other guy. He runs marathons.” And she shows me a picture of this unbelievably attractive man that was taken in the plaza right by where I’m staying.

Like. I’m straight, but I’m not blind. This guy is gorgeous. I don’t remember the last time I was intimidated by another man, but here we are. I didn’t let it show outwardly, but in my mind the mullet/mustache “what the fuck??” gif guy was doing his thing. My penis fled up into my body to hide and still hasn’t come back. I briefly reconsidered the whole being-straight thing I’ve had going on for my whole life. I’ve never been so startled by something so innocuous. Like, woman, you’re telling me that guy wants to fuck you and you’re here with me just hanging out?? What is happening?? What is dating?? Why would you show me that?? Just a whole litany of thoughts and questions.

I had been taking the whole “she’s dating me and another guy” as a bit of a competition and whatever, I was having fun with it. I wasn’t taking it too seriously because, hey, I’ll be gone soon. But then I got to know her better and like her more and I cared more. I think I’d thought “yeah, they’ll end up dating exclusively once I’m gone because he’s here and I’m not. But she’ll remember me and wish I were here.” But now? Definitely not! lol. It’s cool, I hope she ends up happy one way or another. And I’ll keep seeing her until I leave. But I’m not gonna harbor any romantic illusions of longing on her part. She’ll be fine lol.

The whole thing and my reaction just struck me as funny and I thought I’d share. I hope you enjoyed it.

Edit: Before the “she’s treating you like a meal ticket” guys show up in the comments, no, she’s not. I keep trying to treat her to meals but she won’t allow it. She just slowly sips beer when we hang out. And compared to what I’m used to paying to drink in bars at home, beer is cheap as hell here (most things are, btw, Spain is amazing), so yeah I’m treating out of a sense of old school gentlemanliness, but we’re talking like $10-12 over the course of several hours. I ain’t saying she’s a gold digger… and you shouldn’t either.

Advice Is this unhealthy and rushing things, or do we just really like eachother??

26F talking to 30M for almost 3 weeks now! About to have our 6th date and possibly 7th soon after (:

Our first date we had a park day and it went really well, 2nd date was 3 days later when we went walking around to a museum… honestly the second date was okay and I was still a bit on the fence if this is someone I wanted to continue dating

3rd date was 2 days later and was way more casual in which I went over to his place, in this more relaxed environment we had more of a shift and got to be really sweet and have more fun with eachother, I feel like since we didn’t have the pressure of having to be composed in a museum lol, up until now he hadn’t really made a move and it wasn’t until our 3rd date that we kissed (:

It started off with a good amount of dates I think just out of coincidence and our 4th date was a week after and the date after that was 2 days later…

On our last date things were pretty romantic and we kissed for a long time and cuddled and he told me about places he wanted to take me, he was really respectful of me and I feel like I was having butterflies the whole time!

We’re pretty similar so it’s fun bc I have adhd and def have some neurodivergent tendencies that make me a lil shy/awk and you know just a lil quirky lol!

Anyways after our 5th date we’ve been texting more and the texts have been getting a lil more flirty now and we’ve called, and I’m starting to feel like I’m counting down the days until I get to see him, our 6th date is coming up and would have been 5 days since our last one

I just can’t tell if this is like adhd hyper fixation, or I’m getting way too attached, is this love bombing?? Ughhhh I just feel like I’m going nuts and I want to see him more and call him, to the point it’s getting a lil torturous hahahah (we haven’t even gone on the 6th date and we already planned to see eachother for the 7th 3 days after this date lol)

Sorry if it sounds confusing but basically things have been pretty clear on our ends that we’re just dying to see each other, usually when the date ends we have the next one lined up

We haven’t talked about exclusivity or being in a relationship yet🫪

App Help Does Bumble show you profiles that already swiped left on you?

Someone I know showed up in my general feed (not in my ‘Liked You’ section). I’m wondering if they already saw my profile and swiped left on me? If so, would I still see them on my swipe stack even if they swiped left? Or have they just not seen my profile yet? Curious if Bumble is showing profiles of people who’ve swiped left on you already

General Has dating gotten harder over the past 5-6 years, or is it just me?

I started using dating apps about 5-6 years ago, when I was 27-28, and I remember getting dates was much easier. I had to grind but eventually there was a match who I would have a decent conversation, build some chemistry, ask someone out for coffee or drinks, and they’d usually be open to it. There seemed to be more genuine curiosity about meeting new people.

I’m 33 now, and ironically, I feel like I’m a better version of myself. I am fitter, dress better, more experienced , and I’m more financially stable. I wouldn’t consider myself a top 10% guy, but probably somewhat above average in my area. My match rate is not bad.

Yet somehow, turning matches into actual dates feels significantly harder. More ghosting, less effort, and much higher expectations. Sometimes it feels like people have been on so many dates that the excitement of meeting someone new is gone. Even suggesting a casual coffee doesn’t seem to be enough anymore.

I also notice very little middle ground. Some women seem almost impossible to get on a date, while others agree immediately but don’t seem genuinely interested in getting to know you (“free meal girls”).

Anyone else experiencing this? Have dating apps changed that much, is everyone just burned out, or is dating in your 30s simply a different game?

General Dating apps are hard enough without assuming the worst about everyone

I get that dating apps can be frustrating. Ghosting sucks, getting no matches sucks, and sometimes you have a genuinely good conversation that just goes nowhere.

But I feel like some people get so used to being disappointed that they start every new interaction expecting it to fail. Every slow reply means she's not interested, every awkward conversation means dating is hopeless, and every rejection becomes proof that the whole app is broken.

I understand where the frustration comes from, but that mindset must make dating even more exhausting than it already is.

You don't have to be unrealistically positive about dating, but going into every interaction expecting disappointment can't help either.

How do you keep a decent attitude toward dating when you've had a run of bad experiences?
