Editing/Post Processing How to handle ISO 3200+ at high megapixel camera?

Post image
24 Upvotes

Hello guys,

I am trying to get a grasp of Canon R5mk2 as my first high megapixel camera after coming from R6mk2 - 45 Mpx vs 24.2 Mpx

This is example of what am I dealing with - attached image is 1/1000, f/9, +2 2/3 and ISO 3200 as stated in title.

I saw some reviews before and the ISO 3200 should be ok, so to me my photo looks a bit noisy to my taste. Is that normal? And if not, what did I messed up?

Also, is there a way to save image like this without AI denoise? I tried in DxO and the Standard hardly did something and AI denoise makes the image look like AI generated.

Thank you very much for help.

Gear/Accessories Pro photographers: how many of you work with only one camera?

I am NOT a pro photographer. However I still end up doing a ton of 'photo work', from weddings to concerts to corporate stuff, that sort of thing. I do maybe 3 gigs a month, which I think is fair for someone that has a full time job. This has been going on for about the last three years.

Thing is, I only have one camera (and one lens) that I use for everything and this got me thinking that perhaps I need to up my game and get a second camera body as backup. Possibly one or two other lenses. I dunno.

I'm curious how the pro guys go about this. Having a spare makes sense but since I have absolutely no contact to other photographers in my area (not for lack of trying) this seems like the best place to ask. Is it really necessary? Do any of you have only one camera?

Technical Help/Camera Settings Help my first photographing job is tomorrow. I feel like such an imposter how do I get over this I’m so so nervous? (I have no experience btw) 🥲

So me (20F) am doing a brand design for a company I’ve never really took pictures professionally for anything… and I got my camera the Sony a6100 with the kit lens only like a month ago for my birthday. I’m so inexperienced and now I’m just supposed to take pictures. I’ve used the camera before ofc and I kinda get it.

This is all over a school project btw.

Any tips for taking pictures for a company for booklets, websites and posters ? Like camera settings

And maybe any tips for nervousness hahah

Camera Buying Advice Beginner looking to get into the hobby, not sure where to start?

Hello everyone! I am currently residing in Ontario Canada.
This summer me and a few friends have gotten extremely big into outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, trail/nature walks etc.
I’ve met a few people who have been out in nature taking photos of birds and deers, bugs and rodents etc.
I have 0 experience in taking photos minus clicking the camera button on my iPhone, but I have a interest in getting into the hobby.
Ideally starting out I’d like to be roughly under 1000$ but that does seem like I may be sitting under. ALOT of people say buy used(which I have been trying to do on marketplace and Kijiji) without much luck.
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. Absolute max 2000$ of what someone could buy to get their foot into the door of wildlife photography.
I understand the ceiling for this hobby only goes up and up so I am aware that down the line upgrades will need to be made and changes will come.
I am strictly just looking for something to try out, get some experience but also enjoy what I’m shooting. Any advice from individual pieces to pre made kits would be amazing.
Thank you all in advance!

Business/Pricing Photo used without permission for merchandise - next steps?

Hi all, hope this is the right place to ask. Just found out by accident that a band has used one of my photos (of their live performance) from 2024 on a recent run of t-shirts.

Have previously collaborated etc. on social media with said band, but never had any sort of professional relationship, nor ever been approached for usage of the photo. The merch has been produced by their (small/independent) record label.

Anyone been in a similar situation, and knows how best to proceed? Would definitely like to remain amicable, I'm not angry about it (too jaded as a photographer for that), just disappointed - certainly would have been open to licensing the image and working with them.

(Even worse, I love the band - and never even got offered a free t-shirt!)

Discussion/General Where to dig for detailed specs around the sensors used in smartphones?

Is there a go-to place to find the technical specs of camera sensors used in different smartphone models? I would love to find technical reports or papers breaking down more of the physical hardware behind them.
The physical specs seem to be deeply buried in marketing jumbos which throw around established terms in photography like pixels and focal lengths callously. Like, take the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, for example, which can take photos at 12 MP, 50 MP, and 200 MP depending on the selected lens. Does each lens have a separate sensor to accommodate different MP specs? Do they share one sensor and then use different computational/algorithmic processes, including pxiel binning, to scale up or scale down to resolution of the final output?

Technical Help/Camera Settings Help with taking pictures of my tie dyes?

Hey guys and gals! I make and sell tie dyes and know zero about photography. I currently take pics using my Pixel 10 pro XL and remove the background using canva and add a black background to it for my website.

Is there any way to do it better on a budget? I'd be willing to spend a little bit (maybe $100 or so). Any help is appreciated. I've attached a few pics so you can see what I'm doing currently.

Thanks!

Gear/Accessories When does the body really matter?

My very first camera was Canon T3i around 2010s for my graduation gift. It was great at the time, especially for someone like me who's an amateur photographer.

I finally saved up and just got Fuji xs20 this year and it's a whole different beast.

People say body doesn't matter and I agree to a certain point, but after comparing rebel and xs20, I feel like body does matter to a degree.

I'm still not a professional so correct me if I'm wrong & I do still feel like if you know how to shoot well on one camera, you'll probably know how to shoot a good shot on another.

But when does the camera body matter? or does it not?

Lens Buying Advice Just got my hands on an old Nikon D3000, any tips?

Hey everyone!

I recently got my hands on an old Nikon D3000, and the lens has some issues, so I need to replace it.

Since I'm just getting started, what lenses would you recommend for a beginner? I'm mainly looking for something affordable and good for learning the basics of photography.

I also ran into a possible issue with the memory card. I tried using an SD card, but the camera didn't seem to read it properly. According to some AI tools, the card's write speed (UHS-I 120 MB/s) might be too high for this camera, even though the capacity is within the 32 GB limit.

I'm thinking about trying a SanDisk Ultra 8GB Class 10 UHS-I microSD card with an adapter, rated at 48 MB/s.

Would that be a good option?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Printing/Publishing Can someone help me with photo printing advice?

Post image
4 Upvotes

My daughter had her school photo taken a few days ago. The school sent us the photo in Shutterfly and it gave me the option to download a copy. They also have their own printing service, but they have an annoying up-charge and I was hoping to use the downloaded photo and go through the printer my wife always uses (don't ask me which print service, my wife does the ordering). The attached picture is a screenshot of the photo info.

We want to print a few 8x10 in and 5x7 in photos to give to family. I noticed that the image DPI is 72, but the resolution is 2400x3000. Will the photos come out blurry for the photo sizes we want?

EDIT: Thank you for the info. Glad to know I can use the download we have.

Discussion/General Student discount on buying Canon r50?

Hi everyone, I’ve been recently trying to get back into photography by buying a new Canon R50, and wanted to know if there was any camera stores/sellers who do good student discounts. I don’t mind if I buy it new or used. Obviously if I buy it used I would love for a good condition but I really just want to save as much as I can. Is Black Friday good for deals as well? I don’t mind waiting. I am in the UK for reference

Technical Help/Camera Settings Why do my photos keep having this black shadow in the middle?

Thumbnail

Obviously, my photos are underexposed but I am wondering if there is something wrong with my camera or if the photo lab scanned it wrong. Most of my photos have this black shadow in the middle and some of the photos that turned out okay also have horizontal thin lines. So again, please don't tell me they are underexposed but need help figuring out what is the deal with it.

I shot it on a Leica M3 with a Summarit 50mm f1.5.

Camera Buying Advice Good mirrorless cameras from a dlsr?

Hi there everyone,

I just recently started getting into photography (around the start of september) with a used D3300 with a 18-200mm lens. Its still extremely capable, don't get me wrong, but it's starting to feel time run its course. As the title says, what would be some good mirrorless cameras to upgrade to?

((1) Budget, country, and currency: I don't really have a budget set but likely around $500-700, maybe $750 max (w/ a lens). I'm in the US (USD)

(2) What equipment, if any, you have now and why is it no longer meeting your needs? As I said earlier, i have a D3300 with a 18-200mm f/3.5. Its mainly just getting a bit old and was an entry level camera so its age is creeping in.

(3) What kinds of subjects do you intend to shoot? I still haven't really figured out what I want to do yet but from what I've done so far, wildlife, street, and maybe some landscape

(4) Is it primarily for photography, videography, or both? I'd be doing photography like 95% of the time probably. I don't care about the video really. 1080p is my only standard for that.

That's about all I have to say. If anyone would have any questions or would like to see a few pictures for any reason, ask and I'll do what I can (that goes for about all questions).

EDIT: Should mention that this would be for when I do upgrade. Not right now. This would all be a good bit down the line. I'm just asking now to see a standard to put money away for.

Discussion/General What would you do if you were me? (Social media post question)

Hey everyone,

I did a Halloween shoot on Sunday. I just wrapped up editing and have SO MANY good photos that I don’t know what to do. The content is 4 surfers in pumpkinhead masks, wearing black wetsuits going surfing. Shot at golden hour into the night for blue hour. Full moon. Insane stuff. Im stoked.

I don’t know if I should post 1 long carousel on Instagram day before Halloween, or split it into 4 posts with 5-8 images per post. I can either tell the whole story in 1 post, or have 4 chapters starting tomorrow. I’m really excited to share and want the best possible reaction.

Anyone here a social media content strategist?

I worked really hard on this and just want it to hit right.

Thanks!

Artifical Lighting & Studio Lighting for portraits?

Hi! I keep going around in circles with conflicting information about this. I’m looking for a brighter light for beauty videos and photography. I place my models 1m/2m away from the wall, but the light still feels quite dim and diffused.

I currently use a NEEWER NL288 panel at 45° and a small NEEWER 176 as a key light. I’m considering a NEEWER or Godox COB light and a beauty dish as the key light and a Neewer panel to the side as a fill light, but is there anything brighter for around $200 max?

Photos 1-2 are what I’d like to achieve, photos 3-4 are taken on my Canon r50, photo 5 is on my iPhone.

Technical Help/Camera Settings Scanning Polaroids Tips and tricks?

Hi! So typically I've gotten my polaroids scanned at my local camera shop, but I wanna start doing it myself. I have an HP Office jet 6968 pro. Its like one of those all in one printers with a scanner. It has a max 1200 dpi. Can I get good quality with this? What tricks/tips do you have? Does anyone have the Polaroid Film Scan Adapter that Polaroid sells which claims to eliminate glare and Newton rings? Thanks

Hi, I'm fairly new to strobes and would like to be able to take photos similar to these.

What kind of light modifiers would I need?

Also I'd appreciate any technical tips such as light positioning etc.

Would I need to eliminate all ambient light by stopping down?

Thanks in advance

See cross-posted post. And should I be looking at a bigger bag for other reasons? Not planning anything longer than a day walk in Costa Rica, so I think we should be fine with the 38L hiking pack for non camera gear?

Camera Buying Advice Camera recommendations?

Hey all, I've had a canon rebel t7 for about 2 years now and I think I'm ready to upgrade. I really want a mirrorless aps-c that's light and easy to walk around with. My budget is around $1600 and I would rather buy a camera body and lens separately instead of going with a kit lens. I want something that's a nice step up and something that will last me a good amount of time. Lens recommendations would also be nice. I mostly take photos while hiking and on nature walks, but not any crazy high zoom shots; mostly landscapes and shots of the trails I'm on. The 18-55 kit lens on my t7 is a good focal length for me, I'm just looking for an upgrade. I was sort of thinking maybe the canon r50 or Sony a6400 but I'd definitely appreciate some recommendations!

Lens Buying Advice Canon EOS 750D buy new lense or new camera ?

As the title suggests, I am using a Canon EOS 750D which I bought in the past, I have currently as lenses:

Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM

Canon EF-S 24mm F2.8 STM

And I want a zoom lense with low aperture for traveling, something like a Tamron 17–70 mm f/2.8 however that one does not work with my old camera.

Now I am thinking, what should I do? Resell my stuff and get a new camera or is there a zoom lense that fits my purpose? Research showed me that newer lenses won't work on my Canon and I need an adapter which brings new problems with it, the older lenses are "heavy" but I don't know if I would even feel the difference. And overall I am just playing around, trying to get some good shots from time to time and treat it as a nice side-hobby.

Best lense I found so far for my purpose: Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC MACRO OS HSM FOR CANON

So what's the advice, new overall setup or get just a lense?

THANK YOU :)

Technical Help/Camera Settings What's wrong with my lens?

Hi all. I've had a Nikon D3400 for about nine years. I never learned as much about it as I planned. It takes nice family photos.

This morning, I went out to take a few pictures of a full moon. Everything seemed fine. A few hours later, I went to use the camera again and there was a large smudge on the lens. I used a microfiber cloth but it won't come off. I think it's on the inside of the lens.

Here's a picture:

I searched on Google before posting here and apparently it's most likely fungus? I don't see how it could've grown in the few hours between using the camera but it doesn't look like condensation.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to have to replace the lens but before I do, I want to check with folks who know more about cameras than I do. Then the hunt for a not-super-expensive replacement can begin.

Thanks!
