Political threads: No warning, 105 day bans for any personal attacks. Discuss the topic, not the user.
Title. Tomorrow the bans will be 104 days (November 4th), and so on. DO NOT DISCUSS THE USERS, OP, OR ANYONE BUT THE TOPIC.
No, we're not making a single megathread for politics or a particular candidate.
No, we're not banning politics from the sub. This cycle is not new, things will calm down in three weeks.
Abusing the report button on content YOU DON'T LIKE is causing mass-approvals of all reported items. This allows actual rule violations to slip right through. Yesterday, someone reported over 150 comments in a thread. Two clicks, the entire report queue was cleared, likely taking valid reports with them. Please, stop it.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is seeing extremely high numbers of cats in our care.
The Wisconsin humane society is still struggling with higher than normal population of cats. We have over 1100 cats in our care currently and we have seen over 1000 more cats in our system than last year.
Ways you can help
Leave healthy stray cats outside until population has gone down. Bring in sick, injured and young kittens. Also signing up for redemption of the animal really helps if you find a stray. We are getting a lot of feral cats and it takes longer of them to leave the shelter due to behavior that may not fit with every family. Redeeming them allows them to have to spend less time in the shelter. They can be released outside once they're fixed.
Adopting or fostering. We have multiple adoption promotions going on right now. Also we have both cats and dogs for foster.
Donating to your local shelter. The wisconsin humane society has a pet food pantry and we are always looking for donations. Donating to the food pantry allows family who are struggling to feed and keep their pets.
Waiting to surrender animals until population has gone down or seeking alternative rehoming methods. Due to us seeing such a high cat number of cats enter our shelter we are struggling with a lack of kennel space. We do not euthanize for space or length of stay.
Volunteering or applying to work at your local humane society. We have many volunteer and employment opportunities throughout our campuses.
Thank you for any support you can give us during this difficult time.

Crowley reports late fundraising edge over Tiffany in governor's race
Tiffany has a little more cash on hand at 4.8 million compared to Crowley's 4.1 million. FTT's campaign burned through so much money it's insane. We'll see if it narrowed the gap between the two with the final Marquette poll dropping tomorrow.
(Take this with a grain of salt, probably just copium on my end, but I heard that Tiffany's internal polls are not looking good)

Waupun's Republican mayor Rohn Bishop is choosing to vote for Crowley over Tiffany. The city of Waupun, WI leans Republican by roughly 22 points.

God I hate these political ads talking about illegals sexually abusing children.
So yeah I saw a Tom Tiffany ad and it was a ad talking about how David Crowley saying he's an accomplice. As someone who was sexually abused by a police officer who is now sheriff of Kosciusko Indiana back in Indiana it's something I do want to get away from, but I get that only 5% of deportation are violent offenders. And too many times when I hear the there are some bad apples there is no excuse like that for transgender shooters or gay couple that sexually abuse their kids. I on the other hand had a whole police department come after me encouraged harassment towards me and essentially try to discredit me despite there being chat logs with said officer.
I'm almost moving to Wisconsin and making it official hopefully before the election, but it does tick me off when conservatives do this while they support the Republican party and we even have Eric Toney who is known for being weak on child sexual abuse.
I can't take politicians seriously if their campaign is illegals abuse children when they support the system that does the same.

As yourself this: Why would someone who is heavily invested in Flock & data centers want to help Tom Tiffany?
Tech billionaire Scott Banister is helping fund $9M+ to PACs that are airing ads attacking David Crowley. Banister is heavily invested in Flock surveillance cameras and AI data center development. He is not helping fund PACs that air ads attacking Tom Tiffany.

NYT Study: Wisconsin 6th-least Gerrymandered State (Congressional Maps)
This surprised me, since we usually hold our congressional maps up as the original partisan gerrymander. This study does not take statewide partisan balance into account and instead compares these maps to nonpartisan geographically-balanced maps. They rank Texas #1, followed by California #2.
When it comes to Wisconsin, their thesis is basically that we liberals have gerrymandered ourselves. We are so densely packed into Milwaukee and Madison that we'd need to geographically "gerrymander" in the other direction to achieve statewide partisan balance, breaking up urban districts and scooping up suburban areas (see their analysis of Minnesota, or Illinois for a more extreme example that gives Dems an edge). They claim that the "fairness" method that they're using in this study is a commonly-accepted standard among academics and courts.
For state assembly and senate districts, note that even with our court-mediated "fair" maps, this presumptive blue wave year is only shaping up to yield a narrow assembly majority. The reason is a ton of "wasted" votes in deep blue urban areas.
The bottom line is that Wisconsin's extreme rural-urban divide is potentially more of an obstacle to partisan balance in our representation than gerrymandering. Even with "fair" maps, republicans have a structural edge. Our perception is tinged by the fact that pre-gerrymandered Wisconsin was a different Wisconsin. 15 years ago there was much more geographic balance in partisanship, such as a bluer Driftless Area. District-based representation under the current demographic situation is a challenge to achieve partisan balance.

$3.5 M & counting: Parties dump millions into race for SW Wisconsin Senate seat - Both parties are using a well-worn loophole that the Legislature could close to boost their candidate, leading to a tsunami of political advertising in the relatively small race.
