My husband inherited a piece of land in door county a couple of decades ago. Its a wooded acre and a half located in Lautenbach wood preserve. We used to camp there with our kids back when they were still kids. Our kids used it as adults for years until the passed a law that we could no longer camp.

The land has been in our family since the 1950s. And we have never thought of selling. However, over the last couple of years we have gotten endless texts from numerous different people asking to purchase and how much we want for the land. They have been really persistent.

We havent been back to door county in about 10 years. Im wondering if anyone has any idea what is going on out that way.

TLDR: what are your recommendations for a mid 60's couple for a week long visit?

My wife and I are learning how to travel and relax as a newly retired couple. We spent a week touring Duluth/north shore in early October and really enjoyed ourselves.

Starting to think about next year. I was raised in Madison and our family camped at Peninsula State Park every summer, and I remember a lot of fish boils, Washington Island, and other tourist activities from when I was like 8-12 years old, but no specifics. Wife grew up far from Midwest winters and outdoor activities, so not looking to camp.

Looking for recommendations for a 4-6 day visit: we don't mind staying in one location but are open to staying a couple different places. Would probably prefer a VRBO/cabin/more remote location. We have a medium size, very well behaved 12 year old Collie who we would like to bring along but the old girl may not be with us by the time we make this trip.

While the fall colors would be great, we have all summer and fall to make the trip: when would you say is the best time to visit? We like to just drive along and visit scenic places, not really interested in golf or fishing. Dining out is great, but we don't drink.

We will be coming from another Midwest state, about 10 hours away.

We are planning to visit DC next weekend i.e the last weekend of October, is it worth it? Will the foliage still be there? I’m also looking to do kayaking in Sturgeon Bay but I cannot find any openings.please advise!

We’re looking for a place for next summer. I was looking at Sister Bay because it seems possibly walkable, but the places all involve a sofa bed.

Or I’m looking at Ephraim where we’d have two beds but it looks like we’d be driving everywhere.

We are heading up this weekend and would like to find the best sports bar to watch the Series. We were at Husby's last time up but I understand their outside bar is closed for the season. Are there any options (Indoor or outdoor) other than Husby's?

I have a dead tree on my property that is very close to the road and is intertwined with the phone lines going up the road. I've been trying to find someone or company who could take it down for me but I'm not having much luck. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that would be interested in cutting down just 1 tree?

Does anyone know what happened to the Blue Pine Door County store? The former store in Top of the Hill shops Fish Creek is for sale. I know the owners also run the camp store in Peninsula Park, but I enjoyed shopping at their retail store, and even the online store is now closed. The facebook and instagram accounts seem to be deactivated. The website just says closed for the season. Are they coming back in a new location or gone for good?

I was supposed to stay at Alpine resort in Egg Harbor last Wednesday through Friday. The day I was supposed to check in Simon Ward emailed me and said me reservation was canceled. He didn't even have the decency to call me. They said I got a refund immediately, but it's been 6 days, and I have not seen it. He stopped responding to my emails on Friday. Do a quick google search and you will see the place is falling apart and it's a shady organization. There are plenty of better places to stay in Door County.

Big fan of the Brewers and just looking for a good ole Wisconsin bar with decent bar food and fun energy - ideally not too far from Ephraim.

So we were in door county for vacation today, and we decided to stop at Choice orchards. Apples are only a dollar a pound unless it’s honeycrisp, and you even got to pick your own apples. We went the day before today too, and I really loved their *free* pears at the front. But today, there weren’t any, and I was sad. So we just went apple picking and the owner came to us and said ‘hey, you’re the one that reeealy liked the pears right?’ And I’m like ‘yeah’ so she gave me a full size and medium bag, with like.. actual *good pears* nonetheless, and told me to not even bring them in to pay for them and if I don’t fill it up all the way, she’ll make me go back and fill it all the way up. So she’s super nice, 1000000/5, definitely recommend!!!

Coming Out Day got buried under Columbus Day. Door County still fails the queer & indigenous communities.

Nonbinary and disabled Stueg local here. National Coming Out Day (Oct 11) was completely overshadowed by Columbus Day weekend destruction and tourism from cishet invaders. Meanwhile, the county continues to offer almost nothing real for queer people—especially disabled ones like myself. No consistent community resources for the queer community. How difficult is it for the city of Sturgeon Bay to fund a public safe space where LGBTQ can be ourselves away from all the hate?

Cishet people owe queer people and POC reparations for the historical and ongoing hate, erasure, and extraction that built the status quo. The county raked in millions celebrating Christian nationalism and slaughter of indigenous people. Nothing was given back to the marginalized people the wealth was taken from.

Has this year been slower for Door County businesses? Especially this fall? How is your business doing?

Hi, does anybody know what is the correct path from the highline Road entrance almost in the entrance of Ephraim to the entrance in Fish Creek I was trying to look it up online and it said I should take them middle road but then I’m just kind of scared I’ll get lost, but I guess it should be fine. I was just wondering if anybody have any advice after taking the middle road is there any clear sign pointing where the Fish Creek entrance is?

We are getting married in Door County in winter 2027. We have been working with a wedding planner in the area who seems to be highly rated, but unfortunately we have not been getting much help or support. Our other vendors are extremely responsive and have been really helpful throughout the process. I’m not sure what is normal for wedding planners when it comes to responsiveness. Does anyone have suggestions for a planner that responds to emails in a timely manner? Thank you!!
