On paper the iPad mini 8 is the overhaul we've been asking for: 8.5" OLED, A20 Pro, IP67, 5.4mm thin. Then you get to the price and the refresh rate.

The mini was $499 in 2024 and $599 after the June memory-cost hike. Now it's $699 for 128GB. Go 256GB with nano-texture and cellular and you're at $1,049, still on a fixed 60Hz LTPS panel with no ProMotion.

That's hard to justify in late 2026. The base iPhone 17 has had 120Hz ProMotion since last year, so this isn't about hitting a price point. OLED also makes 60Hz more noticeable for a lot of people: pixels switch almost instantly, so there's no LCD smear masking the frame steps, and scrolling looks juddery. Meanwhile the A20 Pro has GPU headroom the panel can't show.

Now look at what launched last Friday. The iPhone Duo opens to 7.6", runs the same A20 Pro, has 120Hz on both screens, and gets Pencil support later this year. At $1,999 it needs a reason to exist.

Then there's the other flank. The 11-inch iPad Pro is $1,199 after the June hike, and for a lot of buyers the reason to step up to it is the 120Hz OLED. The Pro still has the M5, tandem OLED, Face ID, and Thunderbolt, but plenty of people buy it for the screen.

A $599 mini with ProMotion would undercut both. A regular iPhone plus a great mini covers most of what the Duo does for way less money, and it hands you the Pro's best feature for a lot less too, in a smaller body that's IP67. At $699 and 60Hz, the mini is a weak Duo alternative and no threat to the Pro.

Who's left to buy it?

- Casual readers balk at $699 and grab a discounted mini 7 ($559 right now) or a base iPad.
- Enthusiasts who wanted OLED and A20 Pro won't pay $700 to $1,049 for 60Hz. The ones willing to spend more just buy the Pro.
- Enterprise buyers (pilots, field techs, clinical staff) need IP67 and 1,200-nit peak brightness and aren't paying out of pocket.

We've seen a version of this. The 12 mini and 13 mini had noticeably worse battery life for only $100 less than the standard model, sold poorly, and were replaced by the 14 Plus in 2022 (which the Air later replaced). Apple never had to explain anything; the sales numbers did it.

My guess is we're watching the first step of the mini's exit.

The frustrating part is that Apple upgraded almost everything else, but left out one feature that makes a huge difference in everyday smoothness. And also Touch ID🫩.

Who is going to buy this iPad for $900. The starting price is bad for $700 and to get the goodies it’s starts at $900 to $1100. There’s no 120Hz on top of that, I know some people are fine with 60Hz but it’s still crazy.

Yes it’s smaller and have anti-glared but I think iPad Air M4 is better, that’s my opinion but you might prefer the smaller size.

How is the ipados 27.2/27 on the ipad a16? Is the performance much better than the os26? And what about the battery life.

I’ve used iPad Pros for years, and honestly, iPadOS 27 multitasking has been incredibly frustrating.

I own an 11-inch M5 iPad Pro, an iPad mini, and a MacBook. I don’t need my iPad to become another Mac. I primarily use touch and Apple Pencil for studying, reading, drawing, and productivity.

Remember how effortless iPadOS 18 was? Just drag an app into Split View, stack multiple Slide Over apps, swipe them away, and bring them back instantly.

Now I’m constantly fighting accidental window resizing, conflicting gestures, intrusive window controls, and the loss of Slide Over stacking. I’m spending more time managing windows than actually working.

I’m NOT asking Apple to remove Windowed Apps or Stage Manager. They’re great for keyboard and trackpad users. Just bring back classic Split View, stacked Slide Over, and the original touch gestures as an option in normal full-screen mode. Let both systems coexist.

I love my iPad Pro, but powerful hardware means little when basic multitasking becomes frustrating.

More features should mean more choices, not fewer.

Does anyone else miss the old touch-first multitasking?

Hi everyone! I currently have a 64GB iPad mini 6 and the lack of storage is really starting to bother me. My husband is travelling to the US next week, and I had been saving up to replace it with a 256GB iPad mini 7.

However, I’ve just seen that sales start on the 28th, with deliveries estimated for the 6th od november. He’s coming back on the 7th, so I’m worried that any delay in shipping would mean it doesn’t arrive in time.

Do you think the mini 7 is still worth buying, or would it be better to wait for his next trip (February 2027) and get the mini 8 instead? To be honest, I haven’t really understood the differences between the two models beyond screen size, weight and camera position.

My use is very basic: mostly watching videos on public transport and reading books, so I’m not sure which one makes more sense for me.

So I sold my iPad Pro M1 on eBay and I quickly went into the settings and hit the erase all content and settings and it started doing its thing while I cleaned the screen and got the packing read… I was in a hurry and I don’t think I ever saw it complete and I just realized it’s still in my “find my”now that the post office already has it and it’s off to its new owner. I went in and requested that it erase remotely but it needs to be connected to wifi for that to happen… how can a new owner even connect it to wifi without gaining access. I definitely don’t want to send some stranger my passcode or make it a nightmare for said buyer to setup.

TO START I AM IN 11th GRADE Let me explain, I have been using my dad’s 5th generation iPad for a while now. I have been saving up for a month now and I have earned $1,000. I want to either get an iPad Air (most likely refurbished) with a Magic Keyboard, or a MacBook Neo. I want to be able to use it for school, play a roblox game called volleyball legends, play with my wireless xbox controller (omg), and watch content. I don’t know if I should spend extra on a 13 inch iPad or just buy the 11 inch. I am aware the MacBook Neo would be MUCH MORE cheaper but I am ok with even spending a little bit more than 1,000 dollars since my next paycheck comes in Thursday.

Realised I only use it for light web surfing at home anyway, so might as well switch to a cheaper one. And I like the old form factor.

Just trying to prepare in advance. was going to start saving up to buy one before the new year.

I'm torn. I feel like the Air M4 would be enough power for what i want to do (Procreate drawing and some 3D) but the pro does have some...pros. Like it's Lidar Scanner, OLED screen and more recent chip. 5

Also, is there anything I should know about both models from experienced users before I make my decision ?

My grandfather uses WhatsApp exclusively on his 9th-gen iPad (iPadOS 27.0, WhatsApp 2.26.42.74).

It was originally linked to an Android tablet, which eventually died. WhatsApp kept working on the iPad for a while, but after about two weeks, it logged him out.

Here's what we've done:

• Restored the October 10 Google Drive backup (4.6 GB) using an Android emulator on my Mac.
• Relinked the iPad via QR code. WhatsApp works again, but roughly two weeks of conversations were lost.
• Checked the iPad settings. There's no option to make it the primary device or configure automatic chat backups.
• The login screen only offers QR-code linking, not registration with a phone number.

The Android emulator is now the primary device, but it's running on my Mac, and I can't realistically keep it running or regularly open WhatsApp just to maintain his access.

Ideally, we'd like WhatsApp to run entirely on his iPad, without depending on another device. Getting a separate Android phone isn't really an option.

I've read that standalone iPad registration was introduced in July 2026, but I can't find it in the app.

Has anyone managed to make an existing linked iPad the primary device? Is there a way to enable phone-number registration without reinstalling WhatsApp?

Also, does standalone WhatsApp on iPad support automatic backups to iCloud or even better Google Drive?

The main goal is to prevent another automatic logout and avoid losing weeks of conversations again.

My IPad every once in a while stops responding to scrolling attempts, or “X-ing” out of a page or even shutting down. Anyone else have this issue and if so, is there a known fix. Thanks, LM

When I updated my iPad mini 7 to iPadOS 27, it took something like 36 hours (plugged in) to index, according to the notification in system settings. I kept my iPad Pro on iPadOS 26 and used the min as a “guinea pig”. Now that 27.2 is out, I updated the Pro M5 and after about 7 hours (plugged in) the notification has disappeared. So I guess it’s done. Power of M5 over A17Pro chip?

This is my ipad that i got from my birthday back to 2024 that my uncle gave me, but not the modern versions but the old version with the button because it was kept untouched from late 2010s to 2024, which the tablet is so old that so many games from the ipad is incompatable because my ipad stuck in ios12, so i downloaded games rather downloading apps like tiktok or youtube or any apps because they were incompatable now.

I currently have an iPad Pro M1 12.9 inch. I am planning on trading it in for another iPad. The mini intrigues me just because of my lifestyle - I do a lot of reading, planning with Apple calendar and writing with my pencil on the go, I also game on my iPad but not super heavily. I see the mini is A17 or A20 - would I be downgrading by a lot? I don’t know what any of this means I just want someone to tell me what to do 😅🤣 maybe just an air? But idk if that’s as portable? Sos.

Daughter was playing on her iPad today and it hit 0% and turned off.

When I got home from work she told me it’s not charging and I had a look and it’s showing a wire and battery. When I plugged the lightning cable in. It just shows a battery. Her iPad is 9th generation if that helps.

I looked online and I’ve tried “force resetting” it by pressing the home button and on/off button and that just makes the iPad go to black screen and then the battery pops back up again.

I’ve left it alone for around an hour and still nothing.

It’s plugged it up to the wall using a 20w charger.

I’ve now changed outlets and also changed cables and thinking about leaving it over night to see what happens.

Any advice would be awesome.

So i decided to switch to Freeform for this academic year, though im starting to regret it massively. It’s impossible to get more than 60 minutes of usage without the iPad reaching extreme temperatures and HUGE lag spikes. Let’s not talk about battery drain. That’s not what my issue mainly is. I can’t write at all. That’s the problem. Even now if I open it for more than 15 minutes there is a delay when i write to when i see what i have written down. Later on lag spikes start. Im on a iPad Pro m5 13 inch 512. It’s insane that it can not use Freeform. Even if i try to switch back to notability. Where i never encountered any issue and could easily do 10h sessions with full brightness and plugged in charger without any thermal throttling. I can not export it . It’s way to laggy to even do that. Idk what I can do but this is unacceptable. Im not using auto refine handwriting or detect language mistakes. I only use the single app , so no background activity. Is there anything I can do? Mabye sideload a better version? Or change the ipa properties to allow more gpu usage, or something like that. I have really no clue what to do. I find it insane that to run Freeform its more intensive than using a side loaded Minecraft java edition with shaders. That thing runs at 140fps smooth. Freeform is around 30fps even in the first 15 minutes.

I’m a vet student who’s required to use an iPad, and I was required to update to iOS26 to update the app we use for exams. Problem is I get headaches about every single day and the glass and brightness and giant UI buttons are making it so much worse and making me physically ill. Any advice on settings I can change to make it as close as possible to how it looked back in iOS18 would be greatly appreciated

Received my iPad 11 today. After getting it all set up, I tried to send a text message with the phone number that Verizon assigned to my device and it’s not working. Tried to access the Verizon app on the iPad, and I get a screen that tells me I cannot access the app from my device, which I thought was pretty weird. They told me to login through my Internet browser, which I did, and got another screen that said cannot access page from this device. Am I retarded or is this for real?
