Topic It really is crazy how much having a character you like changes how you perceive the game

• Upvotes

I've been a bbcf / vs game player the past 3y ive been picking up fg, but sf6 caught my attention on release but I got too frustrated too fast since no character really fit me. Finally revisited the game because of Ingrid and even though im pretty stuck in plat and feel lost rn I'm actually enjoying the grind rather then getting frustrated at how wildly different this game is from my normal.

Every other fg ive played has been an old title where I knew going in who id like and if the answer was nobody I didnt play, but sf6 sat shelved for so long waiting to finally want to play it and its a great feeling.

Has anyone had the opposite experience before, where they liked a game enough to fall in love with the system even if you didnt like any characters? If so did you feel like lack of character interest affected you good or bad in any way?

Topic What difference is there between T6 and TTT2 1v1???

Post image
20 Upvotes

link to old thread like 2 years ago.

but no one seemed to really answer.

Are there big fundamental differences between T6 and TTT2 1v1??? If not aren't we kinda splintering the community by having two different launchers for what could potentially just be one???

theres like 3 different TTT2 recomps and the T6 recomp and the psp t6 port... couldn't we potentially just have one main hub for all of this since TTT2 1v1 is just T6 with more characters??? especially now that we're getting bonus characters like reina and noctis from the future games in here as well???

Topic Why do some men chose only female fighters

Post image
0 Upvotes

I got called homophobic because I asked someone if he was gay when he said he exclusively selected female fighters. And I was asking genuinely since I have a gay cousin and a gay friend who only prefers to play as female characters.
Some of my mains are females like Nina and Kitana but I meant those guys who enjoy playing only as female fighters

Help Tips to pull off DP's?

I have been playing fighting games for... 4 ish years now? and I can quarter circle forward, quarter circle backwards, half circle, full circle, charge move, every witch way. but I just cannot get the DP move down! I do it and it either calls a quarter circle move or it dose nothing at all.

the tip ive got before is "hold forward then quarter circle back to forward" but ive had no luck with that. not consistently at least. and not if pulling it off after a diff move.

so Im wondering if theres something im missing? or could I really just be that bad at pulling em off. any tips? tricks? advice? (also this isnt really for one game, just in general)

I’m having trouble getting her super out consistently in a manner that doesn’t leave me completely wide open. How do y’all go about hitting it? Speaking about Tenraiha btw. Also any general tips would be greatly appreciated.

Content Fighting game characters with this kind of relaxed, "come at me" stance?

Thumbnail gallery
68 Upvotes

Hello there! I'm looking to comission someone to draw the main antagonist of my Martial Arts Wuxia story. She is a vengeful war deity known as the "Goddess of Combat". She is currently the strongest, most skilled fighter in my story. And I wish to reflect that in her fighting stance. And for that, I need a perfect reference to give my artist.

For extra info, my creation deity "engineered" her specifically to be its strongest creation yet. Fighting is in her very essence. Right after being born, she beat the ass of my setting's "demon lord". Despite having no previous Martial Arts knowledge, she still came pre-programmed with instincts that told her how to position her body in order to generate the maximum amount of power behind her punches.

And that was her as a newborn. She is now centuries old. That was enough time for her to learn every every single Martial Art within my setting. She can chain different techniques and styles together in ways that shouldn't be possible for a normal human.

Which is why I want to give her a "Formless" stance.

I mean- Why strike a stance when most of my characters are not on her level? It's barely worth the effort. They're just flies to her. I want her to just stand there, eyeing them like a predator, only to suddenly surprise her opponent with a perfect, beautifully smooth back kick. No wind-up, no tells, no nothing. Just snapping from relaxed to "your jaw's broken".

I want her to feel like she's not even TRYING.

So help an artist out. Any other characters that give these vibes for me to use?

Topic Hot Take: Being Braindead, Random And Flowcharting Isn't A Bad Thing

I've been playing fighting games somewhat seriously since 2019 and I noticed a few things that people clown some players over: being braindead, random and/or flowcharting.

The braindead part is gonna be the hardest for me to defend, but imo I think that's a good thing. It allows you to focus more on quick decision-making than thinking about what to do mid match. Fighting games are too fast paced to be thinking a lot. Imo you should have what you wanna do established and then if that stops working, switch to something else. If you're thinking TOO much, that's just as bad (or could be worse) as not thinking at all.

Randomness... Never got why this was considered bad. If you're predictable, you likely lose more times than not, unless your opponent doesn't know what they're doing.

Flowcharting. I see this one get mentioned a lot depending on the spaces I'm in. Sometimes in terms of character play, others in terms of what the player themselves are doing. I never got how this was bad and I think most players do this. Even many pros. I think the only thing wrong with this is if your flowchart is predictable and/or simple.

Help Questions about EVO Brazil 2027

Hello! I am a brazilian and a fan of fighting games! EVO Brazil looks like a perfect opportunity for me to experience a big FGC tournament. I wanted to participate in some way in the event, but the only game i play is SF6 and im not even good in that. Another way i saw is that i can aplly to be a bracket referee. I would like to work there and help organize the event. So i wanted to know: has anyone been a bracket referee? I have some questions about it:

1 - Can you tell me how your experience was?

2 - Is it a problem being a referee and only speaking english and a bit of spanish (and obviously portuguese too)?

3 - Would i get to only work for the three days of EVO or would i have actual time to spend in the event? (playing, going to the artists valley, seeing the shops in the event)

And i think thats about it. If you never were a bracket referee but have something to say tell me in the comments. Thanks!

Topic Hot Take: if you lose to someone in a FG that doesnt mean they are better than you

I see people say just because you lost a FT2 means the other person is better but I disagree. It can depend on a lot of different factors and i know one is true because on SF6 I beat Brian_F in a ranked set. Does that mean im better than Brian_F? Hell no

Topic Why do people think picking a low tier helps them get better at the game?

If anything it would be the opposite surely, picking a low tier who has half the tools of a top tier will make you good at playing that specific style but you will lack experience of using the full toolset.

It's like a handyman that only uses a hammer, He'll get very good at using a hammer for sure but he won't be a very effective handyman. If you suddenly give him a full toolset he won't know what to do. Same as if a low tier gets buffed.

I think some people think of it more like Draonball or something training in a hyperbolic time chamber where of they took the shackles off and played a top tier they'll be 10 times better.

Just my two cents on a common sentiment I see repeated a lot around the fgc. If you play the low tier to be honest if you swap characters with a "carried" high tier scrub for a month they will probably adapt better than you.

Topic Why is MK not taken seriously

I'm a diehard Tekken player, it was my first fighting game franchise outside of Smash and is still my favourite, and since then I've played a fair few more, but I've never got why MK was never taken seriously by a lot of players. MK9 is my favourite 2D fighter, dash blocking is fun, combos are fluid feeling, everyone's got some jank or specialty (even if the top tiers and bottom tiers couldn't be further apart), I much prefer it to most Capcom and all Ark Systems fighters. And each MK has had a competitive scene, MK11 did have some dumb mechanical decisions like breakaway, fatal blows, or being much slower, but other NRS titles like MKX and MK9, and I'd even say MK1 still have a lot of competitive integrity. I don't think these games are more competitive, but I don't think they're inherently less competitive (MKX is a perfect example of this, the people who are good at it make it look like an entirely different game).

Edit: Wow, this has to singlehandedly be my most popular post on this site. Thank you for all the answers and I think I get it. Tldr: MK9 and MKX were viewed as more competitive but later entries weren't, also MK has an inherently different design feel.
