Help Tips to pull off DP's?
I have been playing fighting games for... 4 ish years now? and I can quarter circle forward, quarter circle backwards, half circle, full circle, charge move, every witch way. but I just cannot get the DP move down! I do it and it either calls a quarter circle move or it dose nothing at all.
the tip ive got before is "hold forward then quarter circle back to forward" but ive had no luck with that. not consistently at least. and not if pulling it off after a diff move.
so Im wondering if theres something im missing? or could I really just be that bad at pulling em off. any tips? tricks? advice? (also this isnt really for one game, just in general)

the shoryuken move is →↓↘
the hadoken motion is ↓↘→
notice the down forward ↘ ? make sure you end it with that ↘ and not → like the QCF
try performing it slower, 50% your usual speed. and hit the punch button at the exact moment or slightly after you reach ↘

go to training mode and input dp pretty fast a few times in succession. pay attention to the input history and make note of which part of the input is being dropped / if you’re adding in extra directions
go to the end of the training stage as a character with a shoryuken and make sure the dummy’s in the corner. just try to move from corner to corner doing only dp motion until you don’t drop it a single time
personally, I learned fast/consistent dp by playing ryu and lei lei from vsav who has movement tech tied to her 623p

Breaking it down slowly helped me a lot when I was learning. Practice the motion super slowly at first just to build the muscle memory, then gradually speed up.
DP was what I struggled with the most back then too, then one day it just sort of clicked. Literally one minute I couldn't do it at all, then the next I had no trouble with it.

just focus on your inputs. the games these days let you get away with so much and theres a ton of buffer. its the down- downforward that gets people. just make sure you're hitting that and try getting it 10 times in a row. eventually it will be 2nd nature. you're probably not doing it fast enough. in street fighter 3 2nd impact they introduced a shortcut with down-forward twice then punch so you can do it out of crouch. that is the case for every game after that.

63236X, or “Hadoken while walking forwards” nails it for me most of the time. You mention that you haven’t had much success with that. What move do you end up using when you try this?

This may also be game dependent. I’ve noticed different series’ have different sweet spots for DP to come out. Some are a bit easier to find like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear but I struggled for a long time to find it in UMVC3.

On a controller you prob wanna be doing Z motions just by pressing forward, sliding to down, and sliding back to forward, and not really a deliberate quarter circle input

If you can do quarter circles you can do DPs. Instead of worrying about the 3 in 623 try ending on the 6 in 6236

What type of controller are you using? That really defines what your options are.
But even then, it’s better to just get clean with your inputs than to try and force it with that forward QCF piece. The only advice I have used that actually helps is hold 3 a little longer. I’ve found across games that it helps consistency.
