For the low low ask of ~one FTE at a frontier lab, you can keep an institution that defines the maker spirit here alive.

For the low low ask of hitting up your friends, you could endow them in a way that keeps the fire burning through the long nights to come.

Literally.

ps not really sure what flair fits arts and philanthropy... maybe we could add one!

Friendly reminder that seawater corrodes your car's frame. If you're driving through these king tide floods, it'd be smart to get a car wash soon after.

I thought I posted this video last week but it may have failed. Person coming from the left clearly ran a red light. I hope the victim finds this video to submit to their insurance.

Events, Activities & Sports [Academic] Bay Area High School Student Needs Responses for a 2-Minute AP Government Survey (All Ages)

Hi everyone!

I'm a high school senior from the Bay Area working on a public opinion polling project for my AP U.S. Government class, and I need at least 40 responses.

The survey asks about a few national political issues and California ballot propositions. It's only 7 mcq and should take about 2 minutes to complete.

Anyone is welcome to participate, even if you don't live in California! All responses are completely anonymous and will only be used for my school project.

I'd really appreciate anyone who takes a couple of minutes to help me out. Thank you so much!

Events, Activities & Sports Industrial Arts Classes in the Bay Area - I wrote a blog

The sad and sudden, temporary closure of The Crucible, motivated me to update my list of places to experience industrial arts in the Bay. (Fair warning, my own blacksmith shop is amongst those listed.) I'm part of the arts community that I care deeply about. And supporting small arts organizations ensures that artists stay employed and continue to have a place to live and work in the bay.

Food, Shopping & Services Kaiser HMO for high risk pregnancy and childbirth

I am currently on Kaiser HMO through my employer. So far I have had no issues. I do have some chronic conditions which are being taken care of pretty well. My PCP is also nice, I just have to ask her if I need to see a specialist and she will give me the referral.

We are TTC and I am wondering if I should stay with Kaiser or switch to United PPO. My chronic conditions affect pregnancy but are manageable with medication. It will probably be a high-risk pregnancy.

How is Kaiser’s maternal-foetal medicine department? How was your experience giving birth at Kaiser? I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks.

Food, Shopping & Services Where can I find good, tangy apple cider this fall?

I'm from the east coast, and I've been struggling to find good east-coast-style apple cider out here (the fall kind, not the kind you find at a bar). I'm looking for crisp, tangy, acidic cider, not the sweet stuff with a rounded flavor profile. Ideally it's not heat-pasteurized 'cause that mellows it the tang out.

I'm in mid-peninsula, but happy to drive a bit for good cider.

Thanks!

Hi, r/bayarea! We’re the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters’ Office, and we’re hosting our first Reddit AMA today!

We’ll be answering questions from 10 AM to 12 PM. Submit yours now in r/SanJose: https://www.reddit.com/r/SanJose/comments/1xeexmb/were_the_county_of_santa_clara_registrar_of/

Ask about voting, how ballots are counted, or what happens behind the scenes at an elections office. Whether you’re a Santa Clara County voter or just curious about elections, we’d love to hear from you!

Ready to vote? Return your ballot early! Using an official drop box or returning it at a voting location avoids postal delivery delays and gives your election office more time to process it. Early returns help us report results more quickly after election day.

We’re also part of the award-winning Coalition of Bay Area Election Officials, working with neighboring election offices to help voters understand how elections work across our region.

Find voting locations, drop boxes, and official information across the Bay Area and neighboring coalition counties:

Events, Activities & Sports Date Night for Elder Millennials

Hey kids, I need some date night ideas. Located in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale/Cupertino area and are open to traveling 90ish minutes away for something really worth it. We are nearing 40 and aren't athletic. He drinks a LITTLE, I do not. We love music, movies, food, art, and even sporting events can be fun. My husb has taken me on so many amazing dates including beautiful restaurants and concerts to my favorite artists and now I want to plan a cool night. This will be on a Thursday night soon. He is recovering from a serious ankle surgery so we can do a little walking but this can't be a hiking or walking/standing-heavy night. Small bursts are fine.

For restaurants, we have been to:
Fogo de Chao (always wonderful, a favorite)
Maggiano's (overrated)
Arya Steakhouse (wouldn't recommend, won't go back)
King's Fishhouse (excellent coming from a non fish lover)
Alexander's Steakhouse (good but fatally overpriced)
Alexander's by the Sea (just ok, so expensive)
Valley Goat (a favorite, always pleased)
Teleferic (he LOVES this place)
3 Butchers
Cucina Venti (yummy but so expensive)

I've been wanting to bring him to La Forêt and Shadowbrooke (which I admit, mostly want to go for the cable car ride through the trees).

I LOVE a 2-3 location date night. Activity, dinner, drinks/dessert.

Any suggestions?
