The sad and sudden, temporary closure of The Crucible, motivated me to update my list of places to experience industrial arts in the Bay. (Fair warning, my own blacksmith shop is amongst those listed.) I'm part of the arts community that I care deeply about. And supporting small arts organizations ensures that artists stay employed and continue to have a place to live and work in the bay.

I am trying to find 3 Kirkpatrick's School Of Dance shows(that was in San Mateo 1956-2020) on video I was in: 1987 Enchanted City, 1988, 1989 Bali Hai. Anybody have these? It would mean a lot to me getting all the shows I was in. I danced there 12 years & have 9 of them.

since january 2025, more than 4,000 volunteers have come together through UCP to clear 1.7 million pounds of illegal dumping from oakland and neighboring cities, including berkeley, emeryville, and vallejo.

behind every pound removed are people showing up, working hard, and fighting for the communities they care about. this organization wouldn’t exist without our volunteers…seriously!!!!

our work also reaches beyond cleanups. through compassion threads and our weekly distributions, we provide clothing, food, and essential supplies to people who are too often overlooked, including those living in the areas most impacted by dumping.

and we’re seeing the lasting impact as so many of the spaces we’ve cleaned are staying clean, with beautification efforts helping keep them that way.

1.7 million pounds is an incredible feat. but what makes us proudest is the community behind it, and everything we’re building together to make the bay area a better, brighter place.

I'm from the east coast, and I've been struggling to find good east-coast-style apple cider out here (the fall kind, not the kind you find at a bar). I'm looking for crisp, tangy, acidic cider, not the sweet stuff with a rounded flavor profile. Ideally it's not heat-pasteurized 'cause that mellows it the tang out.

I'm in mid-peninsula, but happy to drive a bit for good cider.
