trying to get catering from Taco Sinaloa
I filed at least 2 requests via the links on their website and make some calls and not seeming to get in contact with anyone regarding catering for an event. Anyone got leads or direction?

Try our new restaurant in Alameda? JuXi · Alameda, CA
(Please delete if not allowed.)
Hi r/OaklandFood. I’m Cai, chef and owner of JuXi 菊錫 on Park St in Alameda. We’re in soft opening, and I’d love for some of you to come over the bridge and give us a try.
The food is Cantonese+American: flavors I grew up with as an immigrant, mixed with California ingredients and other Bay Area cultures. Some dishes are traditional and others are more inspired. The name comes from my parents, Ju and Xi.
We took over a space that sat empty for nearly a decade. We’re better than we were on day 1 but still far from perfect, so honest feedback helps a lot. Reply here, DM me, or email me.
We also have a bar with cocktails, sake, wine, beer, and N/A options.
1231 Park St, Alameda
Tue-Sat 5-9:30pm
Walk in,or reserve at juxialameda.com or on Resy.
Would you cross the bridge to try us?

Where can I buy fresh yeast?
Update: Nob Hill Foods in Alameda says that they carry fresh yeast and that it is in the same section as the eggs. I haven’t verified this, but she sounded like she really knew what she was talking about. Thanks to /u/ibmully for the tip!
Not really OaklandFood… more like OaklandBaking. I used to buy little cubes of fresh yeast from Berkeley Bowl. They stopped selling it and now I don’t know where to go. Have you seen it in the east bay?
Fresh yeast is sold in small cubes and kept in a refrigerated section.
Yeast in a jar is either instant or active dry (same as the packets) and is not what I’m looking for.

Mussel foraging & feast Nov 8 or 22
Mussel Forage & Feast on the Beach
2 date options:
- Sun Nov 8, 3:30-6:30 pm
- Sun Nov 22, 2:30-5:30 pm
Join us for a magical mussel foraging adventure just north of Oakland on the Sonoma Coast near Bodega Bay (we'd offer it in Oakland - but no mussel beds here!) You will learn how to sustainably forage, clean, and prepare our beautiful California coast mussels – as well as an overview of the land’s history, intertidal zone ecosystem, and what it means to be a good steward of our land and waters.
If you haven't experienced freshly foraged mussels, you will be in for a treat!
Post-foraging, we gather on the beach, cook them up, enjoy the view, and teach you how to care for the mussels you're taking home.
Each person can take home up to 10 lb of fresh foraged mussels to share, recipes, and instructions.
Tickets: www.forkinthepath.org/schedule
Pricing: sliding scale $85-$135, with additional financial assistance available for those who need it. Kids are welcome.
Terrain is rocky, slippery, and uneven. Footwear with good tread is required.
A fishing license is required ($20 from CDFW for a day license or $60 for an annual). If you're getting a day license, you may wish to wait to purchase your fishing license til the day of since CDFW doesn't allow date transfers.
We can only run this program when domoic acid levels are safe to consume mussels. If they are too high, we reschedule.

Don’t Sleep on IB’s burger
Had IB’s after catching a movie at Grand Lake Theater. I’d had the wings and cheesesteak there before but the double cheeseburger was legitimately great. Will definitely get it again

Small event catering
Hi, Im planning a halloween party for a few friends from out of town and was hoping to get some ideas for what good local restaurant i could order from to show off oaklands food scene. Its only a group of 6 or so, and im open to ideas, all i can think of right now is flour+water or an equivalent upscale pizza joint. I really like hotboys but as far as im aware they dont really do catering style orders, beyond that i cant think of anything. I dont want to spend a ton of money, maybe 150 bucks or so? And id rather get something very shareable, and local, not a big chain. Really appreciate any ideas!

June’s listed on Food and Wine’s 27 best pizzas in America list (Nov 2026)
Not terribly surprising since their pies are exquisite in my opinion but there’s strong competition in the East Bay so I could see room for other entries.
Only place in the city that made the list is Jules, which I liked but want to try again because I think I could love it if I had chosen different toppings.

Aung Myanmar (Old Oakland - Swan’s Marketplace)
I had a delicious Mohinga at Aung Myanmar. They call it “Catfish Noodle Soup” on the menu but it is the national dish of Myanmar.
It was only $15, other places charge much more. This place deserves much more business.

Bar Skula Added A Lunch Program
Now that they open earlier most days, they have some lunch specials. A lot of the items are from the dinner menu but with sides added for lunch. The dinner menu has everything ala carte.
So far I’ve had the same thing all three times I’ve gone, a delicious Bloody Mary and and the amazing Luka’s Belgium fries. I’ll be branching out next visit!

Escape the Halloween sugar coma with "The Midnight Snack Box" (Savory/Umami Asian Bakes) 🎃🧂
Look, the impending Halloween chocolate and sugar overload is inevitable. But when you finally crash from the fun-sized candy bar bender and those late-night savory cravings hit, you're going to need a contingency plan.
I run a local micro-bakery called Half-Baked Obsessions, and pre-orders are officially open for The Midnight Snack Box. This drop is entirely dedicated to the umami seekers and anyone desperate for an alternative to pure sugar. And as a bonus, it's completely, 100% Gluten-Free!
Here is the exact lineup (brace yourselves):
- Kimchi Mozzarella Mochi Muffin (GF): A mochi muffin filled with kimchi and mozzarella, and topped with Korean roasted seaweed flakes.
- Genmaicha Mentaiko Mochi Muffin (GF, LF): Earthy, roasted brown rice green tea meets the rich, salty punch of mentaiko (spicy cod roe), finished with a sprinkle of salmon furikake.
- Gochujang Financier (GF, contains nuts): A savory take on the classic French brown butter cake, spiked with gochujang (Korean red pepper paste) and topped with a salted cream cheese frosting and maple pecan praline.
- Nori Seaweed & Sesame Soft Cookie (GF, LF): A sweet, salty, and highly confusing masterpiece that basically tastes like pure umami in cookie form.
- Pistachio Prosciutto Basque Cheesecake (GF, contains nuts): Housemade pistachio butter baked into a creamy basque cheesecake, topped with creme fraiche and 420-day aged prosciutto. It sounds like a fever dream, but I've obsessively test-baked this into reality and it works.
- Elderflower Jiuniang Panna Cotta (GF, DF): A cool, floral palate cleanser, the elderflower green tea panna cotta is served with jiuniang (fermented sweet rice) syrup. CAUTION: This dessert is a little boozy from the fermented sweet rice 😉
Not feeling the whole box? Everything is available to order a la carte. Also, if you want to aggressively commit to the sweet-and-salty life, the Pistachio Prosciutto Basque Cheesecake is available as a full 6" whole cake.

Have you ever written an email to a restaurant?
Why I'm asking: I went to a nicer place the other week, one in which I've been a bunch of times. I wrote a complimentary, polite email after my visit. I acknowledged what went well but also highlighted something that didn't work for me.
I never heard back, which I thought was surprising. I'm just wondering if others have had a similar experience or is this uncommon.

Where to Watch Valkyries game? With food
Just came back from a spot in a local district, and without naming names the vibe was lackluster. Love the Ho, would prefer somewhere with food so I don’t drown my sorrows too quick in a 2 game losing streak…suggestions?
