GENERAL DISCUSSION Who is Batman’s greatest villain (Other than the joker) and why?

• Upvotes

Outside of his obvious long time rival. Who would be your pick for Batman’s greatest villain? My pick would be Two Face for the symbolism he represents for Batman. Both have and struggle with duel identities, and both believe in delivering justice, but their ideologies on justice are very different and the nature of their duel identities are also different. They are like two sides of the same coin in a sense. A reminder of what Batman could become if he doesn’t uphold his moral code

FUNNY Joker and Jason from Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010)

Post image
• Upvotes

The actual dialogue exchanged between the two characters in this specific scene from Batman: Under the Red Hood is:

Red Hood: Tell me, how does that feel?

Joker: You know, it only hurts when I laugh. But hey... I gotta know. Who are you? You said we knew one another. You do seem really familiar. We double at the prom? Or maybe blow up a school bus together?

Red Hood: No. I'm just something you helped make.

FILM DISCUSSION Speaking outside of the comics, I'm not sure the Joker did anything more evil than this.

Seriously, this is messed up and demented, especially for a kids show/movie. I love that they were willing to go there though, both for not treating the kid audience to lightly and also to give the Joker one final play worthy of this versions rivalry with Batman compared to the rest of his villains.

FAN CONTENT Lady Clayface (Sondra Fuller concept sketch)

I made this sketch of my version of the 4th Clayface, Sondra Fuller, that I've been been working on in my head for a little while. For a barebones rundown of her backstory, it's essential the origin of Basil Karlo/Matt Hagen put into Sondra. This Sondra was once a former Hollywood superstar, who's face was mutilated, and became reliant on the face cream Renew You, and was later transformed into Clayface by it.
Perfect timing since the Clayface movie just came out.

FILM DISCUSSION 10,000°F Hottake: Battinson should have a Young Batman trilogy directed by Matt Reeves and an old Batman trilogy "directed" by James Gunn

Post image
0 Upvotes

Okay so I really don't have high hopes for this discussion, and I am honestly kinda intimidated by it. But it just makes sense to me, Tom Hollands Spiderman had a Highschool Trilogy directed by Jon Watts and now he's having a grownup trilogy with Dustin Daniel Cretton.

I think it's just so conveniently placed that an amazing Batman Saga is already happening at the same time as the DCU while darker works like the Lanterns Show and Clayface are giving a look at the grunge and darkness that the DCU can offer. I honestly don't want Matt Reeves vision to be interrupted by James Gunn but I also think that Pattinson would compliment Corenswet so nicely. I just don't get the point, we already have the pinnacle Batman and the pinnacle Superman, so why even take the risk of creating yet another Batman will get compared to its Battinson competitor?

I think it could be genuinely amazing if we let Matt Reeves finish his hopefully 3-Movie vision and then pass the torch to James Gun, and we will then understand why the Batman in the new trilogy is grizzled and experienced. By the way, when I say directed by James Gun the parentheses were intentional. I mean have the story told as he intended, I am sure James will find someone more fitting and talented for the task to tell Battinsons next chapter and maybe he gives some insight on how to fit it into the broader DCU.

The only arguments I see against this are that Matt Reeves Batman doesn't fit which makes no sense to me, the Daredevil series is thematically a seperate universe from the MCU in its own right and yet the character still fits. The fun part of DC is not having a campy Batman coherently laugh and banter with an equally comical and lighthearted superman, the magic comes from how those personalities bounce off eachother, any amount of comedy shouldn't come from Batman trying to crack a joke it should come from this serious gothic vigilante now being placed in a clashing enviroment and the insanity of that situation. If the story needs Batman to change as a character then that is just bad writing.

The second argument, is that Pattinson will probably retire after The Batman Part 2, which fare but there will be an actor that has to play this role even longer and in even more movies than Pattinson could've dreamed of, so it will be the exact same situation but with someone else picking up that heavy mantle.

The third argument is that he will be too old which I disagree, we don't know how physically and mentally the Reeves Trilogy would be versus whatever James Gun had in mind.

Okay I'm very tired and going to bed but I will message everybody and try my best to have an educated and engaging discussion on this topic!

GENERAL DISCUSSION Thomas Wayne Batman

Hey all, I’m pretty new to reading comics but I’ve always been a DC fan. I loved the flashpoint movie and loved the idea of Thomas Wayne as Batman, and his character in the movie. When I heard and got told about him invading Gotham and killing Alfred I was absolutely gutted. Is there like a genuine reason for the massive difference? (I’m open to spoilers). Did anyone else feel like this?

COMIC DISCUSSION Loved Year One Batman: Scarecrow

Post image

I just finished reading Batman Year One: Scarcrow, and really enjoyed it! I love the serial killer vibe it has and how it really dives into the characters origins, which is, for me, the best part.

One thing I disliked about it is the way Batman behaves, which I found very strange and different from his usual interpretations, but, since he isn't as much of a protagonist as Crane is, it didn't bother me much.

Overall, fun to read, especially in Halloween, and one of my favorite Scarecrow stories so far.

COMIC DISCUSSION I don’t understand why the Nightwing x Starfire vs Nightwing x Barbara Gordon shipping war is so intense

Thumbnail

Many people ship Batman with different characters like Catwoman, Talia al Ghul, Viki Vale, Julie Madison, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, etc and Spider-Man with Gwen Stacy, MJ, and Black Cat but those usually don’t lead to intense disputes between fans and don’t get extremely toxic like Nightwing’s ships.

What is it about whether Nightwing should date either Starfire or Barabara Gordon that it leads to debates that get so intense and toxic?

COMIC DISCUSSION Is this a thing or did I dream it?

Is there any precedent of Poison Ivy and Firefly being at odds in the comics? I for some reason have a vivid memory of that being a thing but I can’t find any sources. It makes sense that an arsonist would be at odds with Poison Ivy though does it not?

GENERAL DISCUSSION I Have Been Searching So Long For This Book

Post image

Sorry if I've tagged this wrong, but I have been searching for this book for 15 years give or take. I am not sure how I stumbled on it while looking at something else entirely but as soon as I saw the cover I fucking knew it! I remember borrowing this book back in high school from the library and the ONLY thing from it I could remember was the Joker getting ground to death by stone grinders. That was the ONLY detail I remembered.

And now that I once again know the name of it I can hunt down a copy so I can finish reading it!
