Not a Saints fan, but I wanna enjoy the sports ball tailgate.

• Upvotes

What the title says, except I'm a huge football fan trying to make a lame joke.

Not a Saints fan, but I love to cheer on the local team (when allowed. Sorry, Bills) and get experiences at as many places I can. I'm coming to the Saints/Browns game in two weeks. I'd love to say hey, come share a beer with, etc. anyone tailgating. Been to NOLA a lot but never for a game.

What does the scene look like before the game? Any good tailgating/hang out spots? I'd love to contribute and hang out! Can anyone walk me through the pregame culture? Thanks 🙂

At what point do we have to consider trading Chris Olave?

This team is so poorly built I can’t see us being competitive any time soon. We’ve had teams in the past that felt like we were one position group away from being functional but this roster feels more like 3 or 4 away.

Compared to past years the one position we’ve managed to turn around is WR. With Jordyn Tyson slated to return after the bye (I’m assuming), the ascension of guys like Vele, Brown, and a 4th round pick invested in Bryce Lance, when do we have to consider Olave is a luxury we can no longer have with a roster this bad?

Why not trade for Help

An 8 time pro bowl G went for a 3rd round pick...A 3 time pro bowl DE for a 4th...would you back the Saints if they made a similar trade for position of need? Or do you want them to hold on to draft picks?

Being honest just my opinion outlook.

I don’t think Shough is our future long term QB1 Shough is good but due to age and we gonna be in a rebuild for awhile Shough will be 30 by the time his rookie deal is up.

All I’ll say for right now is if we ain’t competitive by Shough rookie deal is up I have no problem letting him walk or sign and trade.

Only way I see Shough being worth keeping is us being competitive in 2 or 3 years and if we still in rebuild full reset again

Fans will hate it but it’s the truth on how the nfl works

Looking for edit of Saints defense

Hi all, I am wondering if anybody has seen or knows about an edit I saw online about 1-2 years ago of the Saints defense set to 94 Ghost Shit by Westside Gunn. It was on either TikTok or Instagram and I can't seem to find it. If anybody knows about it or has a link I would greatly appreciate it!

This team only has two more years to make a serious run before we pay Shough

Why isn't anyone talking about this??? Shough is gonna get a big payday and big QB paydays always hurt team building

Examples:

Pat mahomes - can't afford good receivers

Josh Allen - can't afford a good defense

Joe burrow - can't afford good o lineman

Dak Prescott - can't afford a good defense

A great QB on a rookie deal is your one shot to build a complete team around him without holes. Maybe we do like the Chiefs and kick money down the road to extend the window???

The grades are not that good from the Saints loss to Pittsburgh.

Do you think we nailed it?

Vele, Granderson, Kool-Aid off the top of my head, All should have some value. Anyone else? I want Justin Reid gone ASAP but can't see anyone giving up even a 7th for him he's that bad.

Here’s a look at the current roster, practice squad, IR, and depth chart heading into the bye week!

How do we feel about the current state of the roster?

I bought this in 2009 when I still lived in NOLA. The slate was from a historic building that was destroyed by Katrina.

With all the bullshit going on this season I figured I would try to lighten the sub up with this awesome piece of art featuring our G.O.A.T.

Multi TE sets and Johnson/Fant

The last few years, various NFL teams have been running more plays with two and even three TEs at a time. Teams do that to get bulk on the field for run plays, and create explosive pass plays.

Have heard that the Saints are running two and three TE sets at one of the lowest rates in the league. Is Kellen Moore not using multi TE sets because that's not how he runs "his" scheme, or is it because the top 2 are both receiving guys, one a WR convert? Seems like it'd be a great way to jump start the run game.

It's not a tendency. It's his identity.

During the 2024 Eagles regular season, their total first quarter point differential across all 17 games was -11 (scoring 69 points while allowing 80 points). The team famously struggled to score opening-quarter points, failing to record a single first-quarter point in their first seven games. They also failed to score in weeks 11, 13, and 14.

In the first 7 games of the 2026 season, the New Orleans Saints have a total first-quarter point differential of -21 points. We got a touchdown in week 3 but missed the extra point*

Throwing out the 2025 season because it was the first year of rebuild and we started Rattler. But if you're curious, the total point differential was -93

Kellen Moore needs to figure out how to start games better

@nick_underhill: There are some 100% tells in here. A motion that has meant exclusively run in a given situation. Pittsburgh finally caught one of the tells and smoked it out. (link in comments)

In contrast to the mood in here, is there anything good you have seen with the team in the season so far? Any bright spots on the rise?

Can someone explain to me what it is exactly that Doug Nussmeier does for the team?

His job title is offensive coordinator but I know Kellen Moore calls plays and the offense doesn’t really seem to be very coordinated at all especially in the run game. Maybe if Kellen isn’t fired he should bring someone else in?

The Winners and Losers of NFL Week 7 Loser: The Saints’ Five-Year Plan

Loser: The Saints’ Five-Year Plan

Saints owner Gayle Benson, who took sole control of the team after her husband, Tom Benson, died in 2018, watched head coach Sean Payton and Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees gut out a 1-2 playoff record in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, the final act of the 15-year partnership that changed the fate of the franchise. Payton wanted out a year later, and Benson and general manager Mickey Loomis—who has been with the Bensons in the New Orleans front office since 2000—are on their second coach in five years since. They have zero playoff berths to show for it.

Benson said two weeks ago that the Saints’ standard wasn’t acceptable, and things don’t exactly look better after an ugly 16-10 loss to the zombie Steelers in the NFL’s first game in Paris, the designated territory for Benson’s Saints as the league continues to expand internationally.

The list of problems is extensive. Head coach Kellen Moore and his staff aren’t maximizing the few bright spots on the team. The defense under Brandon Staley continues to get burned. The bulk of the roster is laughably bad because Loomis has wasted resources by trading up for draft busts and by constricting cap maneuverability with contracts fat on void years. And worst of all, the Saints seem to be in denial about it: Loomis, for instance, is adamant that the lows they’re experiencing are growing pains often associated with young players and coaches.

“We have to make sure that the processes are right and that the development is correct, and then we’ll get the outcomes that we want and expect,” Loomis said last week. “But we’re a young team, a young, developing team, and we have to recognize that. I recognize that. We’ve got a young coach, 23 games into his career, and that’s where we’re at.”

What’s odd is that the Saints have one of the oldest rosters in the league (by snap-weighted age). Second-year quarterback Tyler Shough is going to be 30 on his next NFL contract. And while Moore did enter this week with only 23 games coached in the top job, he’s been a coordinator at the NFL level dating back to 2019. He isn’t that new.

Benson recently made it known that she isn’t happy with the Saints’ standard of play, and Loomis publicly dealt out blame pie to his coaches and players before the team dropped a dud in Paris. Moore and Staley certainly deserve fault, but they can only coach the players they’re dealt. Loomis is responsible for this staff and roster. If change is going to happen, it has to start with him.

We Can't Keep Opponents Honest

That's what our recent losses boil down to on both sides of the ball. There's no real fear of a run, so you know what we're going to do every play. Defensively, we can't stop the run reliably and our backs aren't good enough to stop WR1's with any consistency. I've seen us unable to prevent completions even double covering far too much. As an opposing coach you can essentially walk in to every game knowing you are going to watch the "Tyler Shough plays 7/7" show, and be prepared for exactly that.

Personnel: we lack depth. We have a handful of key pieces to continue building around. I don't buy the argument that we can't still win games despite having guys out though. It should be at least somewhat surmountable, leading me to part the next bit...

Coaching: there's really just no excuse for the coaching staff at this point. We go out there and see the same plays week after week, seemingly start to see play action or 13 personnel runs work, then immediately go back to the stuff that wasn't working. It just seems impossible to me that we waste as many downs as we do trying to run guys up the middle yet can't muster 50 combined rushing yards? That's a gameplan and coaching issue.

In summary: we're in a rebuild, there are for sure personnel issues and injuries plaguing us, but that doesn't explain the whole picture.

I'm looking to see major adjustments after the bye week to renew some faith in the coaching staff in particular. If not, I'm not sure what we can really expect in terms of growth with Moore (and Loomis).

How rebuilds are done: Let's look at the Lions & Texans

I used AI to quickly put this together.

Detroit Lions Rebuild (2021–2023) – the most-cited recent NFL rebuild, led by GM Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell. Below is a year-by-year breakdown of the organizational reset, talent acquisition, and cultural shift that produced a conference champion in just three seasons.

Year 1 – 2021: Laying the Foundation

  • Front-office hire: Brad Holmes promoted to GM (from Rams); Dan Campbell hired as head coach.
  • Draft class: Built through trenches– Penei Sewell (OT, #7), James Houston (EDGE, #103), Amon-Ra St. Brown (WR, #112).
  • Free agency: Minimal splash moves; focus on acquiring draft capital and evaluating young talent.
  • Record: 3–13–1 (last in NFC North).
  • Goal: Restock the roster, establish a "competition-first" culture, and identify franchise-building players.

Year 2 – 2022: High-Impact Drafting & Competitive Push

  • Draft class: Aidan Hutchinson (EDGE, #2), Jameson Williams (WR, #12 – traded up), Brock Wright (TE).
  • Key moves: Signed free agents like C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Hendrickson-type depth; continued player-development emphasis.
  • Record: 9–8 (.529), finished 2nd in NFC North, missed playoffs by tiebreaker.
  • Goal: Translate draft talent into on-field production, reinforce Campbell's culture, and push into wildcard contention.

Year 3 – 2023: Breakout & Contention

  • Draft class: Brian Branch (S, #45), etc. (by this point, core players from Y1–Y2 were entrenched.)
  • Season trajectory: Midseason quarterback swing to Jared Goff (acquired via trade) stabilized the offense; defensive line (Hutchinson + internal rotation) led the league in sacks/pressure.
  • Record: 12–5 (.705), won NFC North, defeated DAL 32–26, defeated SF 43–21 in NFC Championship.
  • Result: First Lions playoff win since 1991, first NFC title since 1991, Super Bowl LVIII appearance.
  • Goal realized: Sustainable winning culture, core talent under team-control contracts, organizational belief system entrenched.

Now Houston:

Houston Texans Rebuild (2022–2024) – Led by GM Nick Caserio (hired 2021, full control 2022) and head coach DeMeco Ryans (hired January 2023). This rebuild is frequently cited for its rapid turnaround from a 3–14–1 baseline to playoff contention in two seasons.

Year 1 – 2022: The Reset

  • Record: 3–14–1 (last in AFC South).
  • Coaching change: Lovie Smith fired after season; DeMeco Ryans hired as head coach (effective 2023).
  • Front office: Nick Caserio enters first full year as GM; emphasis on clearing cap space and accumulating draft capital.
  • Key moves: Traded Deshaun Watson (March 2022), acquiring future picks; began stockpiling selections for 2023 class.
  • Draft class (2022): Tate Marten (WR), Jaquelin Roy (DT), etc. – mostly impact players deferred to 2023 push.
  • Goal: Restructure roster architecture, establish culture of accountability, and position the organization for a high-impact 2023 draft class.

Year 2 – 2023: The Breakout

  • Draft class (2023): C.J. Stroud (QB, #2 overall), Will Anderson Jr. (EDGE, #3 overall), Jarrian Jones (CB).
  • Free agency: Signed veterans like Dalton Risner (OT), free-agent contributors to protect rookie QB.
  • Season trajectory: Stroud starts all 17 games, throws 21 TDs vs 11 INTs, wins Offensive Rookie of the Year. Anderson Jr. leads a young defense with 10+ sacks and frequent pressures.
  • Record: 10–7 (.588), clinched AFC Wild Card, defeated Cleveland 45–14 in wild-card round, lost at Baltimore 34–10 in divisional.
  • Result: First winning season since 2019, first playoff win since 2011–12, reestablished Houston as a young, athletic, competitively oriented franchise.

A lot of things suck, but keep in mind..

Considering we lost by only 6 points, we were literally 1 play away from winning (if Shough puts the ball closer to the sideline on that out route - no pic and we end up scoring & winning 17-16)

Also there was another missed Field Goal.

I know we are all appalled by the run game yesterday but all this talk of fire everyone is misplaced.
