Just picked up this PS3 Slim (CECH-2501A) for $89. Came with all the necessary cords and an original Sony DualShock 3 controller. It says manufactured in 2010!
Everything seems to be working great so far, and I’m pretty happy with the purchase. My plan is to eventually mod it with full CFW if it’s compatible, install some homebrew apps, customize it a bit and use it for some older PS3 games, especially BO1 and BO2.
I already have a PS3 Super Slim running HEN, but I’ve been wanting a Slim that could potentially run full CFW for a while now.
Still need to check the minimum firmware version to confirm CFW compatibility, but overall I think I got a pretty decent deal. What do you guys think?

So 2 years ago i platinumed TTG The Walking Dead S1 and S2 (100% no platinum) and as i was looking for s3, i came across an site stating that S3 was canceled for ps3 and 360 3 WEEKS before the games launch to shift focus?!

Ok so, I bought a PS3 Slim at a second hand store for $15, the guy told me it didn't work, but I wanted to try annd fix it. When I plug it into the power cable I use for my working PS3 it shows no signs of life, (no red power light, No response when I press the power button) Taking it apart I see the ribbon cable to the power/eject button is pretty messed up, that's possible issue one, and looking at the PSU's mobo it looks like there might have been a spill in it or something, I’m honestly not too sure, but I do want to get this fixed and working. Any possible help is welcome

I have a pc i play the regularly but i just wanna play in in ps3.

Any mods or anything? I am down to doing anything to play that game.

Buying a ps2 just for this game is not an option for me.

I purposely bought a broken Dualshock 3 CECHZC2U A2 because this revision are the easiest model to swap the analog modules. I wanted to experiment which modern analog sticks are compatible with the 3pin layout DS3.

I tested PS3/PS4 Hall Effect modules from AliExpress, (I did not include pictures of them because I couldn't get them to work with calibration). The controller recognized the Hall Effects but my experience I couldn't get a good calibration.

I installed 1 PS5 TMR module (also didn't include in the photos), the controller understood there's a Analog installed but the readings were going all over the place. Its mostly due to being meant for a PS5 controller, had some laying around when I soldered TMR sticks for my ps5 controllers.

Lastly I tried GinFull's PS4 TMR sticks, a pack that I had left overs when I soldered TMR's for my DS4's which are the transparent black & orange that you're seeing in the photos. To my surprise these are compatible & calibrated very good. Tested the controller post calibration by playing variety of shooters: COD, Killzone, Army of Two, and the sticks are smooth.

I just beat the game again for the 2nd time and went the whole game without selling anything?

I have been collecting all the “limited edition” ps3 games. I got a good collection going then realized some of the games I already have, have steel book editions 😭😭. Like a lot of them I’m about ready to throw them away and restart. I’m too OCD for it. Should I just have a steel book collection?! What would y’all do

TL;DR: Delided my PS3, was super nervous, ended up being easier (?) than I thought it would be, got nice temps.

About 2, maybe 3 months ago I got a heart attack because my PS3 was overheating and turning into a PS4 Pro (Jet engine), supposedly the MX4 i had put on my PS3 had turned to stone, which meant it was overheating, and only after about a year of use, and not even that often, so it would probably equal less than a month total in time played.

I had bought the delid tool and Thermal Grizzly Phase Sheets(like PTM7950) intending to use them at some point in the future, which I didn't expect to be then.

I was extremely nervous throughout the entire process, even just opening the PS3 was nerve-wracking for some reason.

So I opened it, removed the motherboard, placed it on my table. Time to take the heat shield off, it's not coming off.... twist, turn, do a loop the loop. Can't get it off.

After a lot of struggle and nerve destruction on my part I managed to get it off, the MX4 is fine... (WHY ARE YOU OVERHEATING THEN?!?!???!?), whatever...

Cleaned it all up, prepared the tool, bent the knife tip thing to 90 degrees.

And man was that the most stressful 60-90 seconds of my life, twice.

I thought it would be harder to do, but also I was probably way more careful than I would've been, had I not been this nervous.

The thermal paste inside wasn't dust but it wasn't damp(?) either, so i put the phase sheets , put the heat spreader back on and closed it up and as you can see, 50C on both, on idle. I used phase sheets on both the inside and on top of the heat spreader.

And even while playing the tempts don't go over ~67C. (If i remember correctly as my memory is bad :d)

So... like, do it if you need to, buy get the tool. It's a MASSIVE help and makes it way easy.

Recently purchased a ps3 super slim from disc replay as I have a stack of 20 games from way back when and wanted to jump back in.

The console works amazingly, very clean and all my games run great.

The problem is the games I buy from disc replay. They must not test any game at all as I've purchased these games and they don't work.

GT prologue: doesn't install. Tried multiple times for 12+ hours and nothing.

Motorstorm 1: doesn't start from the ps home menu.

Sega genesis collection: constantly restarts the console until I have to hold the power button.

Midnight club LA: just freezes at random spots and restarts the console.

They take all the games back but it's annoying to keep buying these games only to take them back and roll the dice on new games. The staff always make a face "how odd it is that all these games work you sure it's not your console". On close inspection all the games have multiple scratches and even chips in the disc.

Sucks because they have a lot of ps3 games. I guess I'll just buy off eBay or other retro stores.

Where do you buy your discs from? And no I won't jailbreak my console.
