Hi, everybody! AI slop is unfortunately creeping into this hobby and this community. This is a quick rules update to clarify that AI is not allowed in any form here on r/minipainting.
This includes, but is not limited to:
If AI was used to make it, it's not allowed on r/minipainting.
While the mod team has been able to remove most AI posts shortly after they are made, on the few occasions AI posts were up for a few hours before removal, the comments on those posts from the community have been overwhelmingly unanimous in being anti-AI, so this isn't just the mod team making this ruling without considering the community.
Please see the pinned comment below for an FAQ on this new rule, and if you have a question that is not answered there, please ask and we will do our best to answer! That being said, this is not an invitation to defend or argue for specific use cases of AI within this hobby.
Edit: Please read the stickied FAQ comment before commenting. There are many people asking things that are covered in that comment.
The comment section has grown quite large, but also please take a moment to scroll through it and read the comments before repeating something that may have already been discussed, or at least join in as a reply to an existing comment rather than make a new top level comment with a similar or identical question.

This was a very fun project! I used the card I pulled as inspiration for the majority of the model, but chose to keep the cool undead skin to keep The Duchess looking like a vampire. I didn't quite have the exact paints called out on the back of the card, but with a few mixes I got pretty close to matching the art.
My favorite part of this project was painting the face, I'm super happy with it!

Finished these guys from the Leviathan box, great minis. Did some experimenting , and probably took too long with them, to the point where I got a bit sick of them ha (some of the time was waiting for deliveries). Used some custom decals, on the knee and tilt shield. But I ended up painting over the one on the shield, as it looked too much 'like a decal'. Also experimented with printing my own transfers for the tiny writing on the two name scrolls, with mixed success. Finally, although I think these photos make the red armour look better, the recipe I used this time wasnt as satisfactory as previous. I need to go back to simple days. Overal I enjoyed working on them

Hi there, I'm trying to reduce my reliance on a single page, namely Reddit. As such I'm looking for online forum communities for miniature painting (and wargaming). Does anyone know any that are alive?
I'm thankful for any recommendations.

She's finally done!
This is the third model that I painted with the pearl/holo effect. I am particularly proud of the hair, and her sword.
The model is "Nip the Goblin Fighter" from Twin Goddess Miniatures.

Hey everyone! Just finished up this guy and was hoping to have some critiques. Generally I'm quite happy with it and I'm not sure what I could do to improve on it. Thanks in advance ❤️

This is my first attempt at a Magma "glow" effect, and I'd like to hear C&C for how it turned out. Sometimes I look at it and I feel like it looks great, other times I feel like it missing something, or like I didn't push the values high enough for that "glow" effect.
Please let me know what you think. C&C are also welcome for any other part of the mini. I'm still learning and really trying to improve my craft!
TIA

I really pushed myself with this piece. I'm normally more of an army painter, so this was a fun challenge. It's not perfect, but I'm really happy with the result!
This is a gnome who started hunting warp demons. He's fighting fire with fire, as he's always had his own demon companion by his side!
I didn't expect to win anything. I just wanted to see my model in the cabinets alongside the greats.
Unfortunately, I didn't read the rules properly and got disqualified because of the Mona Lisa on the banner. You're not allowed to use real-world imagery on your models. :(
Next year, I'll make something even better, and I'll double-check the rules!!

My entry for golden demon in essen this year managed to snag a notable i also got a lot of great feedback from all the amazing painters that were there. I tried to go for a contrast between life and death using a lot more green and lively wood tones on the backside and a less green more desaturated theme on the front i also put the nr 13 on the base thingy as its the tarrot card for death. I hope you all enjoy the piece
(Model is the barrowguard champion tree is hand sculpted)

Arise your crispness! Arise Duke of deep fried, Sultan of sizzling, Emir of Ooey-Gooey!
Got to love Spawn. This was by far my most favored project. Was special to as my boss really LOVES Spawn and he was just diagnosed with terminal. So I brought this into the office for him. It now sits in his office above his desk for all to see.
Model is by ZeZ Studio

If you're like me, maybe you were curious about the Villany Ink enamel washes. I've been enjoying dabbling with them and am still learning the proper way to use them. I went in blind with Phase 1 and some of the colors surprised me, and without clear references to how the colors looked it took me a long time to purchase Phase 2. So to help others out considering these, and for myself for future painting, I made a quick reference.
These are reductive technique washes which can be reactivated after drying with some white spirits, or removed when partially cured with a brush or qtip. I've used these mostly with my GW chaos armies, including the [Sector Rust on my Nurgle Rotswords](https://www.reddit.com/r/MaggotkinofNurgle/comments/1rb7kgd/rotsword_wip/) as well as Carrion Crimson on my Skarbrand
Have you tried these? What kind of techniques did you use with them? I'd love to see more examples of how to use these washes

Trying out these new GW pro tone paints, for someone who’s fairly new to the hobby, they are better than gw normal paints. Hows this for skin? Should i glaze the layers? Also how the heck can i get good pics for my minis these look way better in person than in camera and i feel like im making it worse to get good criticism when posting😭
