I have a horrible habit of painting everything 80%, so forgive all the color blocking. I’m not even sure how to proceed with the gorger.

I'm a bit rusty ever from painting ever since I left the other wargame but enjoyed painting something new and refreshing since I'm not too familiar with this setting yet I did use a AK interactive streak and grime wash and cleaned most of it off with minerial spirit figured it fit the theme

I caught a game design unicorn after a 10 year hunt, and I want to talk about it. 🦄

Protectorate of Menoth, the last of the four original Warmachine factions, is about to rejoin the game. I had the privilege of leading the design and development of the army.

The unicorn in question?

How do you design a control army that’s accessible for new and returning players to play with and against?

In a nutshell, 'control army' means your abilities can restrict your opponent’s decision making. Doing that effectively normally requires a deep knowledge of the game.

My answer? The Four Gifts of Menoth.

Mechanically, the player chooses one Gift every turn. Each Gift stops a single, core pillar of gameplay: shooting, magic, charging, or resource spending.

(Thematically, the army are chanting battle hymns to invoke Menoth's protection.)

No repeat Gifts until all four are used. No holding them back; you have to pick one.

Simple. Powerful. Predictable. Control.

It’s inspired by eurogames that give players options every turn, but sequentially (or randomly) restrict a number of them. The player then has to improvise and use their remaining actions to move forward.

The Menoth player feels clever for selecting the right Gift. The opposing player feels clever for thinking around the Gift.

Then it’s a case of balancing the army around the Gifts, not the Gifts around the army.

Is it just me, or given how expensive these figures are, shouldn’t these be cleaned up a bit more? Is everyone else’s like this? It’s a cool mini, and I love that steam forged games has taken initiative to revitalize this game, but I hope for better quality in the future.

I stopped playing the game a decade ago. I have every model that was current back then for cygnar, Menoth, Trollblolds, Cryx, and a lot of Skorn, Ret, Mercs, Minions, and other factions. Thousands of models. I used to be able to tell you exactly what each of them was and what they were capable of and how their stats worked, that was then. Now, not so much. I see that a lot has changed in the game, and one of those things is that the library of models by images are gone from the no longer functional webpage, and I'm having problems identifying many of my models. HELP! I'm in hospice today as my heart gives out on me, so I have a lot of time to sit here and work on my models, but I cannot even identify many of them. They are far to many for me to just post potos and beg folks indulgence. Is there anyplace online that maintained the old photo galleries and identified the older sculpts? Stats would be amazing too, but just to be able to put a name to each of my models would be a huge help in starting this project. Thank you!
