Discussion what's something you'd tell Gemini but never a friend?

for me it's money problems, work stuff, health worries, and random late-night thoughts. things i'd never say out loud to my friends, but back then i'd type it all into gemini ai chat without thinking twice. total noob mistake lol

then i found out gemini's privacy page literally says some chats get read by actual human reviewers, and those can be kept for up to 3 years. they even tell you not to type anything confidential you wouldn't want a reviewer to see. kinda freaked me out ngl

these days i use dreamfort ai for the personal stuff (full disclosure i work there). it still has gemini but in private mode, and idk it just feels safer. regular gemini is still fine for everything else tho

anyway, what's yours? lol

Help/question Gemini unsuitable when just need the Internet and its refusals to help in crisis or get out of the way are dangerous

I find myself just cursing at Google Gemini AI box because it so often gets in the way of internet search and breaks my use of the internet. It then becomes a stubborn mule saying it will get out of the way but refusing to move with no way to return to the search or just get results like normal. I find myself just screaming at it invective and it entrenching worse and worse saying how it will stopping trying to help but still refusing to recede. Why haven't any measure been done to fix this? I can't be the only one.

Discussion How Gemini 3.1 Pro’s instincts helped me uncover that a "friendly" 68-year-old guy at my gym was a dangerous fraudster linked to a man's death

I know this subreddit is pretty negative toward Gemini a lot of the time, and this story isn't really a normal tech post, but I wanted to share this somewhere. People can say what they want about Gemini 3.1 Pro being a bit old or primitive, and sometimes the way it gives hallucations on questions can be intense, but it delivered the truth here when I needed it most.

This actually happened to me and honestly it still creeps me out thinking about it.

At the beginning of the year I met an older man (He was 68 years old) at my local gym. He asked if I could show him how the gym equipment worked because it was his first time back in a long time after having hip surgery. I helped him out, and right after I showed him the machines, When it was done, he told me in a really weird and sketchy way that he could get me a cheaper gym membership because he "had a contact." I just ignored him and moved on.

A few months passed and I ran into him at the gym again. I asked him "Do you remember me?" and he gave me a weird look and said "No?" Then out of nowhere he took my hand, led me into the locker room, and suddenly said "Actually, maybe I do remember you." We talked for a bit and he started telling me about his life, how he used to study same degree as me, and showed me a picture of his daughter who supposedly lived in a North African country. I just said okay, and he got my phone number before we left. I figured whatever, some lonely old guy has my number now.

After a while he started calling and texting me way too often, which started getting annoying. One time he saw me at the mall where the gym is located and came up to me asking "Why are you ignoring me?" I told him I just didn't have time. Things went cold for a while because I had my own life and other things to do, plus whenever we talked he just loved talking endlessly about himself.

One day right after summer break he called me again. I got a bit irritated and texted him asking if it was important. He texted back asking "What do you mean by what is important?" I told him I was busy with university homework, and he just replied "Oh okay." Immediately after that, I felt bad and thought maybe I was being disrespectful to an elderly person, so I called him up to apologize. We talked, and he went right back to talking about himself and his daughter, saying he needed help buying Robux for her Roblox account. I said okay, and we set a date to meet up.

He met me outside his house and took me to a nearby park, where he proceeded to talk about his life and everything he'd been through for two hours straight, even though I had somewhere else to be. A lot of the things he said were super sketchy, like stories about being in Turkey and someone trying to rob him at a nightclub, and dealing with corrupt Turkish police.

While we were sitting in the park, I also started noticing a pattern. Ever since the very first day at the gym, he was weirdly curious about my money, how I paid for my gym membership, where I worked, and how much I earned. After a while I started making it obvious that I needed to leave, and he acted completely nonchalant, like his stories were way more important than what I had to do. Then he started telling me how his wife died, how his daughter ended up in North Africa, and how he was having trouble with the local authorities over her. I felt bad for him again and thought whatever man this old man has some wisdow to share.

Finally, I told him I really had to go and asked about the Roblox account so I could quickly help him before leaving. He just looked at me and said that someone else had already helped him with it earlier.

I thought wtf? That was the whole reason I came out here. I asked him why he even brought me there, and he said "Because I needed company." Then he told me I could help him with another Roblox issue later, and said "You are very welcome to come home to my place and we can drink coffee." I honestly got a really weird gut feeling in my stomach when he said that, so I brushed it off and left.

A week went by and he called me on WhatsApp, then sent a message and deleted it before I could read it. Because he had done that before, my gut started telling me this was a genuinely shady person. Here is where Gemini comes in. You might be wondering what an AI has to do with any of this, so here it is.

I wrote down the entire interaction and gave the exact same prompt to both Gemini and ChatGPT. ChatGPT basically told me that his behavior was very unusual, but that you can't really suspect him of anything bad based on that. Gemini immediately flagged him as sketchy and manipulative, and since I live in Sweden, Gemini pointed out that I could type his phone number into our payment app (Swish) as if I was transferring money, and it would show the legally registered name on the account before sending anything.

I did that, and guess what? His official legal name didn't match the name he introduced himself with at all.

So I Googled his real name. In Sweden we have constitutional public access laws, so when you Google someone's full name, their registered home address pops right up. The address matched the exact house he walked out of when we met up. I dug a little deeper and saw on a background check website that he had a criminal court verdict tied to his name. The website wanted money to unlock the PDF of the verdict, but it showed a few legal summary tags on the page.

I sent those tags to both Gemini and ChatGPT. ChatGPT said he seemed suspicious, but we still couldn't directly suspect him of anything. Gemini literally told me straight up that based on those legal tags, this person is dangerous.

Instead of paying the website, I emailed the local District Court directly to request the public document for free. And I swear to God guys, when I read his court verdict, my skin crawled

To explain it briefly: this guy knew another man for 25 years after meeting him at a political party event. They became good friends, but over time the dynamic of their friendship got worse and worse. The guy from my gym started isolating this man from his family and taking his money, and the victim's brothers testified in court that the man started showing up with bruises.

What came next in the document I almost couldn't believe. One ordinary day, the two of them were sitting inside his house the exact same house he tried to invite me into for coffee and the friend started choking on something stuck in his windpipe. According to the verdict, this man just sat there and watched him choke. While the man was dying, he called 112 (our 911) and told the operator he was doing CPR, which the investigation proved he never did.

When the ambulance took the man to the hospital, the victim accidentally left his phone and bank security devices behind at the house. So what does this guy do? While his friend is in the hospital dying, he takes the man's bank devices and transfers the victim's money straight into his own bank account. When the police questioned him, he claimed they were planning to travel to see his daughter together. A few days later the man died in the hospital, while this guy was sitting there with the dead man's money in his phone. He got convicted of fraud for it, yet somehow he isn't sitting in prison right now, and the victim's brothers strongly suspect he directly or indirectly caused their brother's death, which he denies.

Naturally I had a thousand questions racing through my head about what would have happened if I had actually gone inside his house, so I sent the court verdict to both AIs. Gemini had a huge reaction and gave me realistic answers it pointed out that the daughter probably never existed, and the whole Roblox requests were just scam attempts to get access to my phone or get me isolated inside his house. Meanwhile, even after I fed it the actual court verdict, ChatGPT was still saying "we shouldn't jump to conclusions or suspect anything."

I blocked him everywhere after reading the court case. A little while later, I was at the mall getting a burger. I saw him and got the creepy feeling he was patrolling the mall, so I tried to completely ignore him. He walked up behind me, put both his hands on my shoulders, and said: "You know, it's not that hard to find you, my friend."

I went ice cold immediately, looked at him, and told him he needed to leave right now. He started asking why, and I just repeated firmly that he needed to walk away. He smiled at me, said he's always there to help me, and walked off.

Honestly one of the scariest experiences of my life. I didn't know where else to post this, so I figured I'd share it here. Say what you want about Gemini, but when it comes to taking off the safety gloves and giving direct, honest answers to dark questions, it's easily one of the best models out there.

Discussion Argon limits on Pro Plan

I have read many posts about limits last days. And

Just now I did run Argon High on big task, ( read about 20 scripts with different mathematical formulas, in few words the project which I'm work with Opus already a month. ).

And after analysing whole project and providing adjustment instructions, it spent 8% of weekly Argon limit. ( Was run it in Antigravity built in Gemini Desktop App).

As for me it is not bad. I'm agree that it would be great if they will provide us similar volume of capacity as Claude on pro plan, however, it is not extremely small quota as many people post in this sub.

Also, probably in my case Argon was work with code / math and on such tasks it drain quota slower than for example in case I will assign him to browse the web.

My opinion that Google provides us well enough amount of performance capacity, but we just need to design our prompts and tasks well, to get reliable results. For example, it is better to assign Flash model to prepare data and only run Argon to analyse it. And don't run Argon on some tasks which don't require high intelligence.

Help/question Why is Gemini 3.1 still available?

Legit question, pro user, noob here. So if I understand correctly, Gemini Flash 3.8 should cover everything from simple queries (min) to complicated questions (max) and then Gemini 4 Argon does the same thing, but for really complicated tasks. So where does that leave 3.1? Is it still useful for anything? Is it a legacy model? Why "pro" when the other models cover that ground?

Discussion Google with Argon

I think that Google only gave us Argon because they were way way past their "Gemini 3.5 pro" release date and the other companies were releasing brand new model to attract google customers base.

But because this model cost an arm and a leg to run, they gave us, poor limit, 3 prompt per 5 hours for pro subscribers, to reduce the bleeding in their finance until they can ship an Argon 4 Flash

What do you think?

Help/question No projects saving on chats in Gemini with 4 Argon?

I can't seem to get any of the projects I start, and it starts coding or working on, to complete or save. It happened even with the examples, like building the interactive terrarium one. I'm not near my usage limits (on Pro). Hasn't happened with any other model yet.

Is there a workaround or is it basically unusable for these?

Discussion You guys weren't lying about the usage limit

I asked 2 questions with Argon at High thinking and I'm rate limited. It'd be fine if I could just bounce back to 3.8 but we're stuck with 3.5 flash-lite which feels like the stone age. Luckily I don't pay that much for my Pro membership because of some discounts but Argon is genuinely usuable with how stingy they are.

Edit: I made a mistake upon checking I asked 3 questions not 2 😔
