Gym Advice

Hi everyone,

I've been looking for a gym in Gainesville and have looked into some commercial gyms and local gyms...

Ngl, why are some of them so expensive though? I checked out the price at Peach and it was nearly $90 a month for the basic membership, which is, respectfully, atrocious.

I'm open to Crunch since it's within 15 mins of where I live, but the reviews don't look very promising, so can someone share if their experience there has been satisfactory?

In general, pls recommend any gym near the SW part of UF that is around or below $30/mo. THank you!

Housing/Apartments What are the best options for phone/internet here?

I'm relocating and purchased a home. My house can be routed and wired for internet, but my current service is Verizon and I only plan on using Verizon 5g home internet if I have no options left. Not to volunteer additional information, I did fly out and lodged near the area where I'm relocating, and I'll say I'm not too impressed with Verizon's coverage on the Waldo Road area, especially when you drive past GNV airport, Verizon goes from 5g to 2 bars of LTE.

My research indicates my best options are to do the following:

  1. Keep Verizon cell service, and get IQ fiber internet (they're not in my area, but they'll reach out to me if they can service there)

  2. AT&T fiber but I hate AT&T because their coverage is bad

  3. Cox (lol, cox) which seems to be the biggest monopoly here just like Xfinity is the monopoly of Jacksonville, FL. Reviews of Cox seem to be mixed, favoring negative compared to positive. Cox or Pavlov.

  4. Put up with my Verizon 5g home internet. I'll get a good budget price, but it's just 5g tower.

  5. if anyone has any suggestions, or info about IQ fiber availability reaching locations that it's website says "Stay tuned! We’re not in your area just yet — but we can’t wait to get there!", I am all ears.

(for context: all I ever need in my life is phone service, internet, that's it. No dumb Hulu, Disney, Netflix, HBO, none of that nonsense. I'm perfectly content with a phone that works, and YouTube. Just phone.. internet.. and anything else I'm going to figure out how to put you in jail for elder abuse/the reason why boomers are 80%~ of the cable lamestream media market to this very breathing second. Again, I don't impose my beliefs onto others)

Housing/Apartments Anyone have troubles with GRU?

I recently purchased a house in GNV, I always establish utilities and services on my own, but I went through GRU to do the 'StartServiceGuest' (as seen in your url path) to establish electricity only with my house, and GRU would not accept my bank account number despite my various attempts with the correct number. GRU had no issues with the address I put in, the routing number, my name and name associated with the account (it's first/last), but it continued raising a stink about my bank account number, and gave the "failed to validate" error at the top each time. No issues with SSN, DL, DOB, anything else.. just my bank account number I know it for a fact I typed it in right. Because I gave the exact same number to the GRU CS operator and had no issues.

Is this a known issue? I entered all the correct info and GRU even recognized my bank by the routing number (it should do this by default), but just didn't want to validate whatsoever at the account number breakpoint (I work in breakpoints when diagnosing issues since it populates messages with info unfilled or incorrect)

I've never experienced an issue like this ever with any utilities provider, especially when your own site recognizes my bank after inputting routing number.

Where are the subdivision secret playgrounds in SW Gainesville?

Trying to find some good playgrounds that are tucked away in neighborhoods. We have a toddler so we don't need the mega playgrounds (Depot, Westside, etc) just yet. Where are some of the hidden playgrounds that are tucked into subdivisions? SW part of town only.

EDIT: Its crazy how quickly this subreddit downvotes. But if you mention any of the approved subjects, instant explosion of upvotes.

Thank you SO much, FEST! Our donation boxes at Hyatt and Hampton Downtown yielded so many goodies that traveling festival goers couldn’t take home, including a stroller! We’re very excited to use these donations to stock free pantries around Gainesville :)

Keep an eye on our socials to stay updated on pantry restocks

Nature & Wildlife Is it still green in January?

Hi! I’ve never been to Gainesville before and will be celebrating a milestone in January, and was wondering if that would be a good time to visit. I love nature and would love to see all the beautiful greenery in Gainesville. I imagine it is the most lush in the spring and summer and may be better off visiting then, but wanted to know what you guys think. Is it worth visiting in January or should I come another time?

Jobs & Careers Shands Career Assistance

Good evening, everybody!

I was wondering if there is anybody working at Shands that would like to make a referral bonus off of me!

I have had no success with applying to Shands over the course of many months. I am a former UF Health employee of 2 years and am returning to be on the clinical over clerical side.

My applications have landed in every category of PCT, Patient Transport, Support Technician, etc... However, I have had no success overcoming the automated review system or application review process. I have experience and will be with UF Health for some time as I am completing my Bachelor's to be accepted into a graduate level APP program at the University itself.

Would anyone be able to assist in this? The full payout for the referral is guaranteed, since I intend on my career being with Shands. I am looking for any PCT, Patient Transport, or Support Technician roles.

Thank you to anybody that responds!

Renting a spot in a parking garage

Might need to be away for a couple of months, don’t want to leave my car permanently exposed to rain / whatever else the weather can bring. Does anyone know where I can rent a parking spot in a garage parking? Maybe from one of the apartment complexes?
