Early voting is open NOW!

Early voting for the 2026 general election officially started on Thursday, October 22 and continues daily (10am-6pm) through Saturday, October 31.

Early voting is available to ALL voters. Marion County offers 9 early voting stations. Because not all precincts have an open voting station during early voting, ALL early voters are eligible to use ANY available voting station throughout the county. Those who wait until Election Day (Tuesday, November 3) to vote must report to their assigned voting station.

Early voting information and a list of participating voting stations can be found at:

https://www.votemarion.gov/317/Vote-Early

Those who will vote by mail are advised by USPS to place their completed ballots in the mail no later than Tuesday, October 27. Ballots must be received at the Election Center by Tuesday, November 3.

⚠️ Scam Awareness ⚠️

r/Ocala was recently hit by a new user just created today who posted a story about living in their car with a pet, the car breaking down and the pet being out of food. They made themselves seem open to meeting in person, even naming the location they were supposedly walking to, but slipped in their PayPal username "just in case" any good samaritans didn't have that kind of time. Minutes after we removed the post and invited the user to contact us to verify their situation, the post and account were both deleted.

We have strengthened some of our detection measures to hopefully find and flag these types of posts before they ever reach readers, but it is still important to recognize the warning signs. Scammers prey on our emotions. They create a sense of extreme urgency, encouraging us to rush to action before we take the time to check our guts.

What we recommend:

- Pause before acting on emotionally urgent posts

- Check account age and posting history. New users and users with no account history are huge red flags

- Be cautious with off-platform payment requests

- Report suspicious posts so mods can review them. We have access to information that regular users don't see, which, for this user, indicated that they were posting to local subreddits throughout the country

- If you want to help people in need, consider established charities or verified local resources

Thank you for looking out for each other!

Looking for Church or something else...

I've been on my own for a while. I think I need to join some sort of community. The first thought is church, but not sure it's the answer.

Do I "Church-Hop"?

What other communities can I join in Ocala to try and make friends, connections, etc.?

Open to suggestions.

One year anniversary

About to hit my one year marriage anniversary with my wife and we recently just moved here. Any good recommendations? She's on the spectrum so typically places with not a lot of people work best for her. Thank you!

Voting by mail? It's time to mail in your completed ballot!

USPS recommends mailing out completed mail-in ballots no later than Tuesday, October 27, 2026 to ensure on-time delivery to the Election Center by Election Day. Be sure to place the ballot in its official return envelope and sign and date it.

Those who pass by an early voting station also have the option of dropping their ballot into a staffed drop-off box during open hours. All stations are open daily from 10am-6pm through Saturday, October 31 (drop-off is NOT available on Election Day). These boxes are typically just a few steps inside the building and there is no waiting or extra steps. Please do not bring your ballot anywhere other than a post office, mailbox or a designated drop-off box at an early voting station.

For anyone still having a mail-in ballot in hand after October 31, your safest option is to go to your assigned voting station on November 3 and surrender the ballot for a regular ballot. If you've lost or forget to bring the ballot with you, you can still vote in person after signing an affidavit.

Vote-by-mail information: https://www.votemarion.gov/177/Vote-By-Mail

Rare wild unplanted Pindo Palm found naturalized and colonizing forests of Lake Weir

This is incredible! This isn't one of our native palms, these are from Argentina, and they're incredibly resilient and able to adapt to Florida just fine and reach such old ages, they're slow growers and this one's been here a long time. We can take inspiration as humans to be adaptable like them. Always watch the nature, it teaches mankind.

23m looking for an affordable apartment in Belleview/Summerfield Area.

Basically title. I'm a 23yo male looking for an affordable ($800-$1200 a month) apartment in the Belleview or Summerfield area. I have a car, a steady job (I bring in $2600 a month), and someone who's willing to cosign with me since this will be my first formal apartment (I've rented rooms and such before but never had a formal rent agreement with anyone except my parents).

If anyone has any leads, please reach out. I am very desperate to get out from my current situation. My biggest obstacle right now is that I can only put up about $1,000 for my move-in fees.

Artist Alley Brick City Ocala

I’m looking to get experience in artist alley (I want to someday be a vendor) but I want to get that experience by being a proxy or assistant for someone! I live near where Brick City will be happening and I have around 2 years of customer service experience so poor customer service wouldn’t be a problem 🙂‍↕️

If anyone needs an assistant I’d be happy to help unpaid!!

Florida is putting a $18 billion tax restructuring decision on the ballot. This is a problem — not because of what it does, but because of how it's being decided.

Recommendations for trails

Do y'all have any recommendations for scenic/don't wanna miss trails within an hour and a half radius of Ocala? (They can be either hiking or biking)

I've been to most of them around here; marshal swamp, silver spring conservatory, rainbow, pruitt, ross, ravine gardens, santos, holly hammock, etc. What are some that I've missed?

don’t know if he’s local but bro was being extremely aggressive for no reason, randomly cutting people off for the hell of it just to go back in to the empty lane he was in. cut across all 3 lanes multiple times and almost swerved into us trying to run us off the road. he slammed on his brakes to almost a complete stop with nobody infront of him multiple times, to us and others. continued aggressive driving like this while i was on the phone with FHP. (mind you this went on for probably 30 minutes)
it looked like he was trying to commit insurance fraud on someone. not today 🥱. if anyone knows bro tell him to get his ego in check and grow tf up….

Part Time Nursing Program at CF

I am inquiring on the part time program at CF. Starting in January.

I know nursing school can be difficult, as I’m constantly reading on Reddit. However for those who have taken or are currently in the part time program, do you think the spread of taking 2 classes per semester helped?

How many hours a week do you typically spend studying?

Any other information is helpful. I’ll also be working a full time remote job while attending school.
