Self-Promotion Sunday! *Megathread*

15 Upvotes

Alright r/Jacksonville, it is that time again.

Got something to share? A project you are proud of? A business you are building? A creative endeavor the world absolutely needs to see?

This is your lane.

Every Sunday we open the doors for Self Promotion Sunday, a centralized thread where you can promote:

  • Your small business
  • Your side hustle
  • Your garage band
  • Your podcast
  • Your art
  • Your Etsy shop
  • Your food truck
  • Your startup
  • Your “I accidentally became an influencer” page
  • Yes, even your extremely niche cat toe bean blog

We keep self promotion restricted to this weekly thread to cut down on spam and keep the main feed community focused. If you post promotional content outside of this thread during the week, it will be removed.

A few important notes:

  • Regular subreddit rules still apply
  • No B/S/T posts
  • No referral link farming or obvious spam

If you are not sure whether your post qualifies, if it belongs on Marketplace or Craigslist, it does not belong here. Still unsure, ask the mod team first.

Support local. Discover cool projects. Hype each other up responsibly.

Happy Self Promotion Sunday.

Local Resident Arrested For Wearing Shirt... At City Council!

After allowing plenty of MAGA/Trump people to wear whatever they please, for years upon years, a local member of the public was scolded like a child and asked to remove her LJ Holloway for Congress shirt for political reasons, in clear violation of the First Amendment.

Not a surprise, but a disappointment, she was arrested for not taking off her shirt and perp walked out of the building.

Don't worry, folks - I have it on good authority the ACLU has already been notified.

We found this little old girl who we think was abandoned in our neighborhood. We are currently taking her to check for a chip and get her some food, but aren’t sure what to do next.

Unfortunately we are not able to keep her as my wife is allergic and we are having a baby in two weeks, but we want to make sure she is taken care of! Any advice on what we should do/who we can contact?

YOUR VOTE MATTERS

Post image
146 Upvotes

It’s really unfortunate/frustrating/sad to see the apathy from some… members of our Society, who think that exercising their Right To Vote is somehow bad or otherwise fruitless. (Unless Russian/North Korean/Iranian bots have infiltrated this subreddit??? We already know how much damage they have wreaked havoc on our society.)

I welcome this DAILY reminders that YES—WE THE PEOPLE can affect Change. I get it—for far too long we’ve had a bunch of primarily out-of-touch Plutocrats/old white dudes who wish that their ancestors hadn’t lost “the war of Northern Aggression”(aka: Confederacy losing the ability to “own” their fellow Human Beings) and only care about hoarding all the money/resources away from the “common people”.

As much “weaker” Democracies around the world have shown us recently (SERBIA! BRAZIL!), that YES we have the POWER and there is strength in numbers.

Not sure where you stand on the current Candidates and proposed Amendments?

http://www.lwv.org (League of Women Voters)

https://ballotpedia.org/Florida_2026_ballot_measures

These 2 orgs are very reputable & will NOT lead you astray.

As far as candidates go:

—if you are tired of the Cost of Living continually going up (gas/diesel! food! rent/mortgage/insurance!);

—if you are tired of the Fat Cats in Washington NOT DOING THEIR JOB: where has Congress gone? specifically the GOP??? how is it they get paid >$100,00/year with excellent benefits/health care when it appears they have done jack 💩 and are allowing a Demented/Sundowning 80y/o start “wars that will be won on Day 1!” without Congressional Approval, literally steal from money from the American people/quadruple the Deficit to MORE THAN $2 TRILLION USD (per https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/ as of 09/30/2026), and otherwise do NOTHING to appropriate govern the USA;

—if you are tired of FAKE promises: I’m still waiting on the “$5,000 D.O.G.E. check”, the promise of “a Healthcare Plan on Day1!”, any numbers of empty words from a 💩 “businessman” who has been known for decades to stiff anyone/everyone;

—if you are tired of: the 0.001% Billionaire class making the decisions that suit their interests, rather than the other 99.9999999999999% of the American populace who actually pay for the bulk of all $$$ spent in this country (including family members & close associates of this regime pilfering your tax $$$ being used for their personal gain);

—if you are tired of: your military friends/family/neighbors who served with Pride & Dignity being dogged, and prefer that a raging Alcoholic (who is clearly NOT in recovery & the stress of that job clearly increasing his drinking & POOR decisions) bleeding Active Duty & Retired Vets dry so that he can bomb Iran, while he is killing Americans & innocent children overseas in a “war” that serves NO PURPOSE other than using up all of the U.S. Military’s heavy weaponry/bombs (and this administration’s bone-headed/amateur/laughable attempts at “taking over” Iran for their vast oil reserves);

—if you are tired of: a Demented/Sundowning 80y/o who is literally committing treason against US, the American citizen, all because he didn’t want to be HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR RAPING WOMEN, GIRLS, & BOYS;

—If you are upset that $10 MILLION of Florida Medicaid dollars for CHILDREN’S HEALTHCARE went to political advertisements saying to Vote Against Recreational Marijuana;

—if you are tired of basic services traditionally handled on the State/Federal level, and this current administration (both State & Federal) attempts at selling them off to the highest bidder/made available only to those who can pay (i.e.: Governors attempt at meddling with both in the Public School Curriculum/banning discussion of slavery, taking over of a Liberal Arts school to make it “secondary education institution of conservative thought”, punishing Educated Public School Teachers {Hope McMath teaching an approved AP Art History class curriculum at DA} to attempt to silence teachers to allow teaching of his/GOP narrowly approved view points, etc, etc, etc, etc)

—if you are tired of ignorant white men who haven’t had a Biological Sciences class since high school thinking that it’s ok to dictate what an educated, qualified Medical Profession can do/perform/operate on, especially when it comes to Women’s’ care;

—if you plainly see that this is Treasonous behavior from the (Hate Group) Heritage Institute, and you see how their greed and lust for Power has made your life, your family’s life, your neighbor’s life WORSE instead of Better than your parents/grandparents;

—if you are tired of Law Enforcement being used as a personal security force, racially profiling your fellow American citizens (which some even being illegally deported to a country they’ve never lived in);

—If you are tired of 10+ years of verifiable LIES being shoved down your throat;

VOTE LIKE YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! Why? because Your Life *literally* Depends on what the Founding white dudes of the Colonial Era enshrined 250 years ago—a life free of an oppressive, tyrannical maniac “king” (who only cared about extracting as much $$$/resources from the Plebs/common people, to pay for a war that we/they had no say in), without giving these Plebs/common people any say on how/what THEY wanted their community and society to run, and how their taxes were spent/used.

Clearly we are ALL going to need Trauma Therapy after the Demented Psychopath with Narcissistic Personality Disorder finally croaks & all of those enablers are Tried/Convicted of Treason however, WE DESERVE BETTER!
.
.
.
Opinion {DUH}: May I suggest you Vote NO on the ALL 3 Amendments? (especially #3: you would end up paying way more in Sales Tax/other county taxes while also losing services such as JSO, JFRD, Libraries, etc all the while City Council/the Mayor would have to beg Tallahassee for funds) The only people these Amendments help are the ultra wealthy/corporations/special interests in Tallahassee.

Feel like the GOP/Republican Party has lost its way as “the party of small government, keeping government out of our lives”???? VOTE for the Democratic ticket ALL THE WAY down the ballot. When someone tells you how they behave—believe them.

**Disclaimer: I’m a ‘No Party Affiliation’ Voter since the age of 18 y/o who has consistently voted (save a primary or 2, max) since this time and I think that EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE A SAY IN HOW OUR SOCIETY IS RUN (whether I agree with you or not).

We have to choose between a cop and a Christian Nationalist??

For School Board Dist 6 we have to choose between Lindsey Denmark (who thinks America was founded as a Christian nation) and former cop, Clarence "CJ" James?

We need better candidates.

Best mental health facility for inpatient?

8 Upvotes

I don't know if this is okay to post here to be quite honest but my mother-in-law is needing inpatient mental health care that last longer than 72 hours and we can't seem to get any help.

The hospitals keep her for no more than 72 hours say that she stable and then sent her on her way and that same day she is calling us acting like the world is ending.

Does anyone know of any facilities that would keep her longer term or is it all just acute Care in this area? She is elderly. No dementia.

Murray Hill

I had an appointment to pick something up today in the industrial part off Edgewood north. It’s been years since I’ve been over here. I was coming from Ortega so the gps gave me a simple route Roosevelt to Edgewood. As I get on Edgewood I get as far as the Winn Dixie distr center then I see the road block. I’m not super familiar with this area so I followed the detour and it put me on 10 east. Where should I have gotten off at? My gps was no help because it doesn’t know the road Is blocked and wants to keep sending me to that Winn Dixie distribution center that is a little before where I need to go

Deep Dish Pizza

A few months ago I made a post asking for some Carmines Pie House reviews and you guys delivered. We did end up ordering the Chicago Beef & the Deep Dish. The sandwich was a hard No and the pizza was mediocre after adding salt. Anyways I came back to tell you guys that I ended up making my own structurally sound deep dish tonight and…10/10! Guess I’ll try to make an Italian Beef next ☺️

The pizza is:
Hot pork sausage
Caramelized onions
Sautéed mushrooms
Some chunky homemade sauce
Fresh and block mozzarella
Homemade dough

Mixed Media Artist New to JAX 💛

Hi everyone, I’m Clover 🍀

I’m a mixed-media artist new to Jax and I’m looking for opportunities to showcase and sell my artwork at local markets, art fairs, pop-ups, and other creative events!

I’ve been working on putting myself and my art out there more, and I’d love to connect with other artists, vendors, or anyone who knows of opportunities for local creatives.

If anyone has recommendations for upcoming markets, events, galleries, or even tips for getting started as an art vendor, I’d be so grateful to hear them!

Thank you so much in advance for any advice or suggestions! 💛💫

thinking of visiting Jacksonville as a solo traveller

14 Upvotes

hello everyone, as the title suggests I’m thinking of travelling to Jacksonville next year!!

I have never flown to the US by myself lol (based in London), but my reasoning is really stemming because I love the righteous brothers and they are performing there next year.

I wanted to ask what kind of stuff there is to do/is the community safe and welcoming? Or what you might recommend?

Thanks a lot!! Xx

Any good Jax Hot Dogs?

8 Upvotes

I’m looking for an all beef dog that snaps a bit when you bite into it.

All American and Orange Tree have these weird soft tubes of meat with no real flavor. Help me find a place that serves dogs with a pop.

Looking for more help from all you wonderful locals.

I made a post a few weeks ago about looking for a hotel around mayo clinic as my mom was getting sent there for liver transplant testing. What was supposed to be a 4 days stay has now been over two weeks with my mom unfortunately ending up in the ICU for a week. She is now in a regular hospital room finally completing her testing to make sure she qualifies for a transplant. Due to being in the hosptial for basically the last month she now is required 2 weeks of rehab to get her muscles moving again. We have the option to do in house near mayo clinic in which my dad will still need to stay there in a hotel or they can come home which is 6 hours away from mayo clinic but my dad can stay at home. Which saves alot of money. We were able to get a good deal on a hotel about 25 minutes from the mayo clinic at Southbank for 70 dollars a night. Which works out to about 2100 a month plus taxes.

This is where I need y'alls help. After her rehab and if she gets put on liver transplant she will probably come home. However once she gets the call for the liver transplant and has her operation she will have approx 2 months of after care where she needs to be in within 30 minutes of the mayo clinic. This is not covered under insurance.

Are first choice and hope Will be Gabriel House. This is not guaranteed. All the close hotels don't have monthly rates and are super expensive. Air bnbs close by all seem to not have days that have more then 2 weeks availble. Every monthly place I'm finding seem to have terrible reviews of being in a bad area that u don't leave the place after dark.

So I'm coming to you to see if you can point me on the right direction.

-Where within 30 minutes of mayo is an okay area or not okay to stay?

-Any recommendations on places that we can look at for the next few weeks for my dad and for future after her surgery

Thanks again in advance.
