Discussion Keeping Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Warren!!!

If you’re truly a Colts fan, you should be completely fine with a total rebuild considering how long we’ve been struggling and spinning our wheels. Sitting at 2-5, trying to patch things together year after year is just pure insanity, and it’s time to face the music and blow this thing up. That doesn't mean we sell off everyone, though. If we’re smart about how we reset, keeping Jonathan Taylor and Tyler Warren gives us the absolute best foundational pillars to build around. JT is locked up through 2028 and remains an elite runner, and trading away every single blue-chip asset means you're just hunting for another guy of his caliber later. Keeping an established star gives a future GM superstars to build around and quarterback a re-tooled roster a legitimate safety net. Pairing him with Tyler Warren gives us the ultimate modern chess piece. The kid is a flat-out playmaker who moves the chains and wrecks defenses from anywhere on the field. Keeping young, dynamic talent like Warren locked in as a centerpiece means our next competitive era actually has a lethal weapon ready to go. If the front office wants to fix this broken cycle, we clear out the older expiring contracts, stack the draft board, and build the new foundation from the trenches out—with Taylor and Warren leading the charge.

I’m glad this is happening

Please, please, leave JT. All I ask

This should’ve happened in 2019 or 2023 and it’s finally happening.

It just sucks we are tied up in Sauce Gardner and Daniel jones that we can’t turn and somehow get like a Justin Herbert or something. Just don’t know how we build around a decent QB in next few years when we won’t have it.

FO/Coaching Potential HC candidates opinions?

With the Colts deciding to completely hit the rebuild today it would seem Steichen is probably not coaching this team next year. Who are some candidates you would like to atleast be seriously interviewed whether they get the job or not. Me personally:

Mike Tomlin - Best case scenario, hall of famer, super bowl champ, culture establisher. He seems to be enjoying NBC, but I feel you gotta give him the best offer possible and make him say no.

Nick Sirianni if available - I know he gets alot of hate and I don't always like him, but he's familiar with the organization, team, and honestly everytime Philadelphia calls for his head he go's and wins a super bowl. He may hate this place since Reich is gone but I think it'd be worth a shot.

Sean McDermott - Took a Bills organization that had been irrelevant since the 90's and won divisions with atleast 1 playoff win each season since 2020, and players genuinely were upset after he got fired. I get having Josh Allen helps, but I don't think that adequately explains all his success

Nate Scheelhasse or Chris Shula (Rams OC and DC) - Innovative coordinators under the successful McVay tree that produce results and can navigate big ego's well. While not exactly my favorites on this list, I think they deserve interviews and could help us think outside the box.

Grant Udinski (Jags OC) - Young rising star who's helped a major turnaround in Duval, plus it could weaken division opponents. Worth seeing his views on the organization.

Aden Durde (Seahawks DC) - Mike Macdonalds understudy, has helped lead the Seahawks in a very quick turnaround while coordinating the best defense in the league the last 3 years. I think he deserves a look to see how he might use his Seattle experience to turn around a team without having to draft a QB super high.

These are just my initial thoughts, I'd love to hear other opinions especially any that disagree

You don’t have your first round pick?? Trust me I get this team isn’t winning the title this year. I just feel there’s merit to trying to win as many games as possible when a division opponent owns your first. I just don’t really understand shopping Nelson/JT for 2nds and 3rds while the Jags will be collecting our lottery pick next draft.

Edit: I was thinking the Jags had the pick instead of the Jets. Makes it feel a little better.

Trades for first-round picks

Ballard has traded away 5 first-round picks. Never have we received a new first-round pick. I really hope that changes when we trade Taylor.

Ballard traded down in 2018.

Ballard traded out of the first round altogether in 2019.

Ballard traded our 2020 first-round pick for Buckner.

Ballard traded our 2022 first-round pick for Wentz.

Ballard traded our 2026 first-round pick for Sauce.

Ballard traded our 2027 first-round pick for Sauce.

I did some digging, and apparently the last time we received a first-round pick, we used it to take a guy named Marvin Harrison.

Daniel Jones contract question

Can someone clarify the logic in using the transition tag then signing Daniel Jones for 2 years 88 million when they could have done a franchise tag for 1 year 44 million.

Did they not expect Jones to get offered 88 millions by another team in the market and were forced to match a higher contact than their expectations after a transition tag?

Yes Nelson has been amazing but losing him means absolutely nothing in terms of wins and losses.

He’s not playing a premium position and having a hall of fame guard for 10 years has led to no division titles and 3 playoff games. He’s also gonna break the bank this offseason and would’ve walked for nothing. Getting a 3rd and a 5th is a great trade for both teams. I bet you we will have the same exact record with Jalen Farmer as Quenton Nelson.

feeling sick

Is anybody else feeling straight up nauseous and sick over losing Q and Buck? I feel like I’ve had a pit in my stomach since the news and I know it’s just football but I’ve loved this team since I was 5 years old and now I’m 25 and this is what’s happening to our team!!!!

I want to have hope I know we need to rebuild and let some of these guys get other amazing opportunities but this really sucks, these are two of my favorite guys on the team and I hate seeing them leave.

with all this happening tho, what ARE people feeling hopeful for? Whether it’s for this season or future seasons, what kind of hopes do yall have???

Edit: I want to name I’m all for the rebuild been waiting for this management to actually do something!!! Just hate the reality of losing these guys!

Who is to blame

• Upvotes

Ownership, as always, is to blame. Though I would say this has more to do with Jim than Carli.

Ultimately, Carli is getting so little for these players because it’s too late in their careers and contracts to get much more in return. This is a rebuild that needed to happen years ago when these players were higher value. Think of what the 2024 return would be for Pittman, Zaire, Q, and Buck. If you want to be like the jets and get a ton of firsts you have to be willing to sell good players on good contracts. Jim always wanted to believe they could win with what they had and couldn’t commit to a rebuild when it was obvious.

You can blame Ballard all you want but the 10 year philosophy of liking our guys started with Jim and Ballard was one of his guys. I admire that Carli is doing the hard thing right now but I wish we had an owner who would have done this 2-6 years ago when it was a good time.

The Jets would have picks 6 (ours) 9 (theirs) and 11 (Dallas).

I mean... That is just crazy to think about

What are the Dodds odds?

So clearly the Irsay sisters are trusting Dodds to salvage whatever he can from the roster, to prep for rebuilding starting next year. What do you all think the chances are that they just end up making Dodds the new GM when the season is over?

r/Colts • • 20h ago

I’m fine with the picks as long as Dodds and Shane SteiCANT aren’t in the room on selection day. If they are, expect more mediocrity.

Unprecedented?

I don’t recall a fire sale actually executed by a modern day NFL team. There’s a realistic chance every one of any trade value goes before the deadline and we field an actual practice squad team / save for Steichen’s ego Jones. When was the last time you had a real net seller in the NFL?

Also just because fuck him forever, is Ballard finished in the NFL now?

If We Are Wanting Picks Then Why Not Play AR??

Look I’m not saying he will play great at all but at this point if we are trying to get draft capital and will most likely lose anyway…then why not play him to increase his trade value and then also trade him??

Best OG in football and you can’t negotiate a 2nd at least??

This organization is so dog shit. We aren’t finding shit with a 3rd rounder especially with Shane Shitstain and Ed Dudz😴 (Ballards right hand man)
