Questions What’s something you’ve done for your partner because they cared but you never personally cared about?

For an example: when I was pregnant I’d wear a necklace daily. My partner’s mother did the same thing when he was a kid and one night she woke up with it twisted around her neck while pregnant, she had a feeling she had miscarried due to the entangled necklace because it had never happened before. Unfortunately, she did miscarry.
I made a point of taking off my necklace each night before going to sleep after hearing that story because I didn’t want that to intensify his fear of a potential miscarriage. He never noticed me do it throughout most of the pregnancy then randomly asked me to take it off before bed one night (which I was going to but hadn’t quite went to bed). That’s when I told him I did it every night.
I personally didn’t care about wearing a necklace to bed, I understood it was probably safer not to but I mainly took off my necklace for him

So what’s a kind gesture you did for your partner because they cared and not because you or both of you cared about?

Was just talking about silly would you rather situations for fun.
I asked my gf if she’d rather have no arms or no legs, and she said no arms.
For some reason it bothered me lol and I’m not sure why
I was like are u sure
Like why would one rather have no arms so they could walk around better? But we do everything with our arms
Look at professor X he couldn’t use his legs but he’s doing pretty good

Just Chatting AI art used in food advertisment/menu kills my appetite and makes me nauseous

I just can't withstand how AI generated food images have ruined the eating experience for me. Most of the time it's some ridiculously plasticy food like image with a weird yellow saturated tint.

I miss the old days when the restaurant used to show the actual food they make.

Just Chatting Corporate skyscrapers were built when working in offices was a necessity. Now that technology allows people to work remotely, much of that architecture is no longer needed but we are stuck with the large buildings.

Most skyscrapers were built during the office boom of 1920s-1960s.

Back then hand to hand was extremely important and they actually had so much need for file space. Whole rooms filled with files, suits to go to work everyday.

Now people have zoom meetings in their underwear and a dress shirt.

The days of needing all those buildings are long gone but we are stuck with whole cities unable to tear them down 😂

Losing $1000 on a flight I booked drunk 🤦‍♂️

I booked a flight drunk and now I’m regretting it. I can’t refund it and I don’t know what to do. If I go I would be spending an additional $2000-3000 on the trip(this includes accommodation and transport, food, clothes etc.) you recon I go all in and spend the money or just take the $1000 L and save the extra $2-3000 I would be spending on the actual trip. I won’t be broke if I come back but Ive been really wanting to save money. Do I just go because it’s booked or do I take the $1000 lost and take it as a lesson to never do anything impulsive when drunk

It's strange how 2016 still feels like "a couple of years ago" in our heads

Time perception after 2020 has been completely broken.

You hear a song or think of an event from 8–10 years ago and your brain automatically files it under "recent history" until you actually do the math. Anyone else feel like the last few years moved at 3x speed?

Do people not know that women have peach fuzz

I never shave because I dont care.

Men ask me a lot how I look or to send picture, and when I finally decide to its like they get scared or confused.

Going from interested in getting to know you to either blocking and no longer interested.

Women I meet, same thing. People are very picky when looking for “friends” they have to find you attractive. Up to their beauty standards.

I think im way too nice. And I may look androgynous so that probably plays a part. Could also be hyperpigmentation.

what's something your parents own that they refuse to replace because it still works?

i was thinking about how our parents seem to have things they've been using for decades and see absolutely no reason to replace them as long as they still do their job. things like old tupperware containers or wooden furniture that's been in the family for years,, like it was there since i was a kid and now i'm in my 20's?? meanwhile, some newer things barely seem to last a few years.

what's something your parents or grandparents still use that has genuinely stood the test of time? i'd be curious to know how old it is and whether it's something that could still be bought today.

Thoughts & Ideas Anyone else tired of superficial conversations?

I’m so tired of everything feeling surface-level. It seems like nobody wants to actually talk anymore. I want to discuss interesting ideas, question things, challenge perspectives, and hear what people genuinely think without worrying about being judged.

Why does everyone seem so concerned with fitting in and being socially acceptable? Where’s the curiosity, the weirdness, the unapologetic individuality?

I don’t want to talk about the weather or exchange the same predictable small talk every day. I want conversations that make me think, challenge what I believe, or send me down a rabbit hole I never expected.

Does anyone else feel like genuine, meaningful conversation is becoming increasingly rare? I’d love to hear what’s actually going on inside your head, not just the usual small talk.

Sometimes forgiving someone doesn't mean you have to let them back into your life Do you believe people deserve second chances, or should some mistakes be deal-breakers?

Just Chatting I treat Expiration Dates and Best Use By dates as suggestions

I don't believe a canned/tinned food item, or medicine, for example, expires the exact date stamped. And "best by" dates are also up to my discerning. I know someone who obsessively marks canned and dry goods with a fat Sharpie so they can find it easier to then trash it. I 😅 have been getting the items thru his new wife who he has forced to comply with his way of thinking.

She also has to toss out of date frozen items regardless of the fact it is frozen (steaks/chicken)

I have been eating very well and saving tons of money due to this.

I have owned the same Cold medicine for 2 plus yrs! I have been taking a 2024 Dayquil that has still provided me the cold relief I need. Yesterday I had a dose of the Nyquil of the same batch. It did exactly what the medicine does. No different than when it was brand new.

Still alive.

Just Chatting How many people(adults) here brute force mental math like I do?

This is gonna sound really fucking stupid for most people but I've never really bothered with times table memorization, I know it but only up to a certain magnitude, well below what I'd consider the average.

Everytime I wanna add, subtract, multiply, divide, whatever, I just... count really fucking fast in my head.

Sometimes I'd do this thing where I visualize dots, and then start counting them like fuckin apples on a kindergarten textbook.

I also feel like it needs to be said that I graduated in a STEM field.

Movies & Shows I wish I was into anime

I feel like I'm missing out a lot by not being into anime and manga. I'm not sure why but I just don't enjoy them. Older animes I like, like Eva, Gundam, or Cowboy Bebop, but new ones just don't work for me.

For one, it sucks because when I read the premise or plot they actually intrigue me a lot. But then I go watch them and I just don't find them fun.

But the main reason for feeling like I'm missing out is because I'm actually missing out on a lot of very accessible merchandise and communities. There are anime or cosplay events everywhere, anime plushies and keychains on people's bags, various pop up stores, and all my friends are into them. So it's not the media per se, but the real life part of it. Especially in Asia.

It's not as easy to find goods of things I like, but if you like anime you can just go to Animate or something and you can find relatively cheap merchs. Whenever I go into these kind of stores I feel kinda sad because it must be so fun for people who like anime to go there.

Do you ever miss a moment while you're still living it?

Sometimes I'm doing something ordinary, and suddenly I think, one day, I'll probably miss this exact moment. Even if there's nothing special happening right now, it might become a memory I'll wish I could revisit someday.

It's a strange feeling, realizing that some ordinary days might actually be the ones we remember the most.

Does anyone else ever feel this way?

r/CasualConversation • • 7h ago

I save so many useful posts and articles, but almost never revisit them. Anyone else? Probably right?

I save a lot of Instagram reels, browser links, posts etc. but I never go back to them. Many of times this saved information was very important but I still never went back to it.

Do you guys have the same problem? do you ever go back to your saved links, posts? Just want to know if people do revisit their 'once upon a time interesting' stuff and do something with it....just wondering how people go back to this saved interesting stuff, is there a reminder you use for eg?

Just Chatting sometimes i take the scenic route even when it makes zero sense

okay so i have this thing i do where if i am walking home alone late enough that the streets are empty i will deliberately pick the long way around a random block instead of cutting straight across. it adds ten minutes and there is literally nothing there but i do it every time. i think part of it is pretending the whole city is mine for a few blocks or maybe just liking how the echo of my steps sounds on the empty pavement. i never mention it to anyone because it feels a bit silly once i say it out loud. sometimes i even slow down on purpose so the walk lasts longer. it is nothing dramatic and i am sure plenty of people have their own weird rituals but this one is mine. i wonder if anyone else does something pointless like that just because the night feels like it is waiting for them.

Isn't it strange how we can meet someone once and remember them for years?

You can have a short conversation with someone you'll probably never see again, yet somehow, you still remember what they said or how they made you feel.

Meanwhile, there are people you've known for years whose smallest details you can barely recall.

I wonder what makes certain encounters stay with us longer than others.

Thoughts & Ideas A weird dream that made me realise how much I have changed

I am sick with a fever so I randomly lay down on my bed and ended up falling into a deep sleep. What followed was a rather weird dream. I saw myself smiling , giggling and genuinely laughing. After waking up , I was in shock for a good two or three minutes. It felt surreal almost as if I would forgotten what that kind of happiness felt like. I was literally happy just eating some food in that dream. There was nothing particularly amusing about it , nothing extraordinary happening. I was just… happy

And that got me thinking about how much I havee changed over the past few years. I ain't that cheerful kid who used to run around laughing for no reason anymore.I don't know if this is just a normal part of growing up that everyone goes through or if it's just me. Maybe I'm overthinking a random dream but it made me realise how long it's been since I last laughed with my whole heart

Anyways , thanks for reading. Do tell me what you think about this and maybe this is a little reminder for all of us to pause for a moment , let go of everything and just laugh at something silly for no reason

Hope you have a good day ahead :)

Just Chatting I'm recording an album.

It isn't finished, and I don't have clips or anything. This isn't that kind of post, on that kind of subreddit... but for the first time in almost 15 years I'm seriously creating again. And that's a nice feeling.

So my questions to you, before I retire for a nap, is... what have you created recently? What do you enjoy most about the creative process?

Maybe you cook. Maybe you write. Maybe you play music yourself. Maybe you code. Maybe you build things with your hands. It really doesn't matter, so long as you do something...

For the creative types... what have you created recently?

How did you lose a friend, and how did you cope with it?

• Upvotes

I'm usually affable and friendly, and I cherish close friends as much as I can. But there have been times I had to cut someone off or reduce effort towards the friendship, and I feel terrible after. Care to share your experiences?

Why hasn't a tire jack-type device never been invented for senior falls?

Seniors losing their balance, falling, and unable to get up is not only common, bu a fact of life especially if you have an elderly parent. It's also inadvisable to lift them up for fear of blowing out your back. There actually are devices, but they're usually big, bulky, like the ones found at hospitals. And the smallest ones are actually pretty expensive. I just find it surprising that something small, compact (that you can store in your house) and inexpensive--say under $100--that you can slip under someone and prop them back up has never been invented.
