Missing Dog

Hi everyone, we're missing a very beloved senior cocker spaniel from the Coolrain area of Laois named Toby. He is an older gent and is deaf so may not respond to calls. He's chocolate brown with blondy bits on the top of his head and grey around his nose. He's microchipped and has a red collar on. He was last seen in the Coolrain/Glebe area but could be anywhere by this stage. If anyone has any information about Toby I would be hugely grateful as his family are desperate to find him. Thanks!

How do you make weeknights enjoyable when working 8–5?

Hi everyone,

I work Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with a commute that starts around 7:00 AM). I find myself constantly just waiting for the weekend.

I really don't want to wish my days away like this. What are some small things or routines you do during the week so you actually have something to look forward to after work?

Shite Talk My name is Jeff!! Am I alone in this?

Post image
21 Upvotes

Maybe it’s the universe’s way of telling me I watch too many derpy animal clips/memes, but I cannot hear the name Jeff without the whole “My name is Jeff”. I was actually introduced to someone this bank holiday weekend called Jeff, who introduced himself to me as “Hi, my name is Jeff”, it was a serious setting, not a having the craic on a Saturday night type setting. I managed to smother my face with a great big smile and a “it’s lovely to meet you”. Didn’t help that he was nerdy and derpy looking.

Gift of the gob or more so lack of

I know i'm not alone in this but I struggle so much with small talk. I would have been shy growing up and probably very quiet but I felt like I grew out if it in college when I found myself a bit and working in a bar I got good at small talk and keeping conversations going, but I think every since covid ive noticed ive gotten particularly bad at it.

Im grand when its my friends or people I know very well but i've been to a few family occasions and like I severely struggled with my close aunties/uncles and cousins. I moved away from home probably like 10+ years ago now so I dont see them frequently but I just couldn't make any sort of conversation and I feel like its so rude of me. That kind of made me put a spotlight on myself and maybe im over anlaysing it but I realised I rarely talk to the barber or taxi men or even small talk with friends of friends unless theres a conversation Im able to have inputs into.

Does anyone have any tips or exercises that they felt helped them with this?

There are 123,000 Polish speakers in Ireland. Far more than any other Nationality. How come it seems there's so little Polish influence in Irish culture?

I hope this comes across the right way. Just an observation I had. And it may just be my experience, but I find it interesting l, especially compared to other nationalities like Brazilian or Indian who are much smaller in Number, but seem to have more of a cultural footprint. I've certainly met loads of Polish people.

For example, I cannot think of a single Polish restaurant. Hardly any bars sell Polish beer. I don't think I've ever seen a Polish club night, Polish music or polish film showing advertised.

Anyway. i hope this thread is taken in the right Casual Ireland way and not spun off into some debate about immigration or assimilation. Just an observation and I'm willing to be corrected if I'm completely off base with any of this.

Shite Talk The “chicken fillet roll/Two Johnnies/leave the immersion on” joke is becoming as annoying as the stereotype it’s trying to criticise.

Admittedly, I have not watched the Two Johnnies show, but I am sure it is filled to the brim with lazy Irish tropes and great “craic” about fillet rolls and Irish Mammies with wooden spoons, but god almighty, every half wit Irish comedian or social media poster seems to be rinsing that joke for all it’s worth.

Is it not a massive irony that the joke that we have embraced a series of simple stereotypes has itself become a repeated series of stereotypes of lazy Irish humour?

Why are beds in Dublin rentals so ... short?

I'm fairly average height at 5'9 and yet all the beds I've seen in new build rentals, including the one I've ended up taking are a tad short and result in my feet extending off the bed.

I feel like I'm going crazy from the discomfort of this strange sensation every night. Irish people are quite tall on average from what I've observed so how has this happened, unless new builds are catering primarily to expat demand with the assumption of short populations? Or is my building just weird and maybe the other ones I saw were normal length?

ETA: I've added pictures in the comments of the measuring tape against the bed. And I sleep at the top of the mattress not halfway down like some weirdo

Nutrition & Pilates / Cork - (online too).?

Nutritionist and fitness coach.
Currently getting pilates diploma. Years and years of nutrition experience.,
Saturated market yes.
But was wondering how many people would genuinely be interested in actually having both of these available to them?
As pilates classes are so expensive, coaches are so expensive too. And as many as we do have them, I feel pepper are often reluctant to getting one just because of prices….

What would you do with yourself age 30 'till the end if money was no object?

All, I have had a dream all my life and I feel it would be impossible without unlimited money/winning the lotto. And it got me thinking.. what would others in Ireland\*\*\* do if money was no object (up to say, €50M) to spend your years from age 30 to whenever your time is called.

Me personally, buy a large industrial space and fit it out with garage equipment, hire mechanic etc and build classic kit cars and document it, to post on YouTube so I can look back on it when I'm dying off.

What would you do?

\*\*\*you have to stay in Ireland, no retiring to Dubai.

How much would you pay for your dog to be walked?

My friend is looking to start dog walking in order to get some experience with animals. She adores animals, and always has but she’d like to get into dog grooming and feels this could be a slight step forward, just a little something extra on her cv.

I’ve made her a flyer but I can’t help more than that, she’s stuck on pricing. So I thought I’d come on here and ask you all!

How much would you pay for:
A 30 minute, local, one on one dog walk
and an hour local, one on one dog walk?

all comments would be greatly appreciated, help a gal out!

Shite Talk Ptsb scam?

"I received a phone call from someone pretending to be from the PTSB fraud team. They claimed that the email address on my bank account had been changed. To make the call seem genuine, they were even able to accurately state my recent transaction history and the specific part of Dublin where I deposit my money." Everyone be careful PTSD aren't very helpful .

Shite Talk Has anyone tried those heated vests?

Out of curiosity has anyone given those heated coats or vests a try? I’m buying a new rug for my horse and noticed the site I buy his cheap stuff off have an offer on a few, they seem genius but wondering if they’d actually do anything. I’m chronically cold, we’ve a new build and I have become so accustomed to heat that I’m absolutely baltic at any breeze. It seems ideal for walking or doing the horsey chores but then again I’m stingy and don’t want to spend €120 on something that’s rubbish. The site is Horze for anyone wondering, affordable as far as horsey stuff goes and it’s handy for bits you don’t need ASAP.

E-Pricing in Aldi

Was in Aldi over the weekend. My eyes were attracted to a price label on a shelf that was flashing. The labels look 100% like ink on paper but paper doesnt flash on and off!! I guess e-pricing has arrived.
