Halloween

Would it make any difference to dress up in a costume while doing Uber on Halloween or no? Has anyone tried that and did it help at all?

Is it worth it?

• Upvotes

Hi i heard its possible to get a sign in bonus with Uber but i also heard that drivers give up driving because uber has no real competition and once they sign up the driver they pull the rug on them.
Whats your personal experience as a driver?
What other options to drive? Is Lyft paying more?

Behind the scenes with Uber Crew

The livestream Earning with Uber with “crew members” and “product managers” and a special appearance by Sachin Kansal the Chief Product Officer was supposed to begin live at 10:00 AM EDT. It’s now 10:15 and no explanation of why it’s not live. Interesting.

Unexpected rider request actually working out

Disclaimer

No, I didn’t make $3.5 a mile, there’s context.

But I could say I did, and everyone would either believe me, call be a bragger, or call me a shill, or whatever, so whatever.

I’m primarily a Lyft driver.

Decided to go back to uber last night for the lolz, and this was my very first ping.

Pull up to the pax. At a retail location - Guy steps out of his car.

Says “hey, I called you, need to take my girlfriend back home. Can you drive me back?”

Immediate red flag. There’s no stops, up front tip, anything. Would have to drive him without uber coverage, and lord knows if he’d try something.

I fumble around for a bit, and he just says “I can book the return if you want it thru the app. Or pay you however you want. - if it’s a problem, I can just cancel, it’s no problem”

Figuring I’d already driven there, and despite my usual best judgement - I said fuck it, and told him “just tip me on the app”

“Whaddaya want boss?” He asks

“Just whatever you’re comfortable with” - I tell him, just resigning myself to a shitty hour.

Guy immediately tips me $50. Says “we good?”

Yes, yes we were.

In reality, maybe not the best decision. It was an unhooked ride with a stranger, no uber insurance/protection - and there’s always a chance for him to take it back (he didn’t)

But - my point with this is. We’re really quick to always assume folks are out to get us. Screw is over, take advantage….

And it’s true, sometimes.

But sometimes you also get a nice experience. Had a great, fun conversation with the guy on the way home, he was funny as hell, and really appreciative. And it worked out great.

So, for those of us going back out there today. Keep your head up, sometimes life throws ya a bone.

Are We Expected to Load Passengers’ Luggage Despite Having Back Problems?

I’m not sure if it’s okay to post this here since I’m a taxi driver, not an Uber driver, and I hope this isn’t a silly question.

I’m in my early twenties, and unfortunately, my job has caused me to develop a herniated disc and sciatica, mainly due to sitting for long hours and lifting heavy passengers’ luggage and putting it in the trunk.

I wanted to ask, Is it acceptable for taxi drivers, or even Uber drivers, to ask passengers to put their own luggage in the trunk, while the driver only helps arrange it if necessary? Or are drivers generally expected to lift and load passengers’ bags themselves?

I’m trying to protect my back and avoid making my condition worse, but I also want to be professional and provide good service to my passengers.

Rider making false report

Has anyone had any situation where a rider makes false claims to Uber? Got one in the middle a ride yesterday. The rider claimed I had an extra passenger or guest. I just started this Uber thing and I just want to know if this something common and why do riders do this. What measures should I put in place to prevent or counter any future false claims?

PSA to drivers: Showing up 5-10 minutes before a scheduled ride does not obligate the rider to rush outside earlier

I scheduled a ride for 5:10am this morning and had this invasive driver show up at 5:02 starts texting me letting me know he's arrived, cool. No, a couple minutes goes by and I don't reply and he's saying "hello" and "???" by this time its 5:06 and now he's calling me he's like "its uber bro" I said I know its I still have about 5 minutes im still finishing up getting ready I scheduled the ride for 5:10 then hung up and scheduled another ride because that rubbed me the wrong way.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this with Uber and if anyone knows what or if I can do anything about it. I had this problem when I first tried onboarding too. They kept gaslighting me when I was trying to upload the documents. Over and over and over saying they can't accept them because out of focus or whatever. I knew after awhile they were just giving me the runaround so just gave up after trying everything.

Then all of a sudden 3 mths ago I get a notification that I can drive with them so I did past 3 mths gaining a Gold 5 star status. Then just recently had to renew police check and vehicle inspection. Back to the same shenanigans as in the beginning. They keep gaslighting me and won't accept the renewed documents after submitting them each multiple times. Now my documents have expired and I am not able to drive for them. I got super angry with them, calling them out on it and telling them they just lost a good driver. I totally fed up with them now.

no-show driver instantly left and charged me a cancellation fee, how do I contest and punish this?

Achmed Abdullah or whatever his name is decided to charge me a cancellation fee for a trip he cancelled, after making me wait for it.

I can't call a new uber until I accept the fee Uber wants out of me. Thank Christ it doesn't have my credit card and cant.

How do I fight this scumbag behaviour?

Uber in a rental vehicle!

Hi everyone, I'm a university student based in Australia with a main job at a store. I'm planning to start driving for Uber this week as a side hustle for extra income, using a rental vehicle. I'm not sure whether it will actually be profitable with the rental costs. Is this a good idea, or would you advise against it? I'd really appreciate your thoughts to help me decide. Thanks in advance!"

Which payout method do you prefer?

I’m starting Uber soon and trying to choose the best payout method. For drivers here, what’s been the most reliable for you, weekly deposits, Instant Pay, or the Uber Pro Card? I’m looking for real experiences with fees, speed, and any issues. Thank you in advance for your help.

Can you hypothetically gain maximum earnings the less your car moves?

This question mostly concerns drivers who pull 12-hour shifts.

Unlike Lyft, Uber's 12-hour counter is based on active driving rather than just being online. Even though the timer stops when you've stopped (after a while), you can still receive requests.

There are quite a few drivers that drive around while waiting to receive a request. But that runs out the timer faster. That's less time to receive requests.

Would you earn more if you waited for requests parked rather than driving around?

Title: When you bypass the PIN for a $16 run but the customer is literally playing hide-and-seek under the desk 💀😭

Post Body:

I risked it all to grab a sweet $16/5-mile order, dropped the giant pizza box right on the leasing office desk, and bounced. Turns out the customer was crammed under the desk like a pretzel the entire time avoiding me.

Next thing I know, I'm in my car with my dog Ruffle, and Daily Ping Support hits me with the classic: "So you didn't deliver the food, man."

No PIN. No photo. Just immediate savage support telling me to "save it for the birds" and flagging my account for 24 hours. "Have a great rest of your completely unproductive, zero-money day." The absolute disrespect from support agents is real out here. 😂

Check out the full animation at u/DailyPingGig for the daily gig work pain.

How many of you have risked the bypass and paid the price? Let me know below.

I signed up to drive and they said my background check will be done by 10/28. It’s been 2 days and now they are saying it won’t be done until 11/6. Why longer?

At 8pm on any day, downtown should not be completely grey. It's been terrible the last couple weeks here.
