Explain It Like I'm 5: Rideshare Incremental Costs Edition

Post image
0 Upvotes

Repost because the original image was rolling wear and tear and depreciation into the same category.

Taxes are a consequence of earning income, not an operating cost of rideshare. They're calculated on my earnings, not included in my cost per mile.

Basically I got tired of explaining that everyone's driving situation is different. Your expenses aren't necessarily my expenses, and your financial situation isn't mine. Since that concept apparently requires visual aids, I've provided the crayons with AI.

This image was brought to you by AI, the same technology currently being used to replace drivers who think $30 for 3 miles and 7 minutes of driving is what the job should pay. No, I do not care if you hate AI. I'm not going to engage in your anti-AI arguments either.

They need to change pax count to 2 and charge extra after that.

I am not letting 4 people in my car for anything less than $15.00 so if I pull up for a local run paying me $4-6 and you have 4 people I am canceling period.

How?? Can they even drive for uber?

So I’ve done Uber off and on now for over a year. And I always gotta question how folks with no ID, no driver’s license, can’t even communicate with their passengers because they lack communication skills or straight up can’t even understand or speak English. How were they able to sign up for Uber rides? Especially the no driver’s license part.

Literally only been doing this for a week. Completed every ride I’ve accepted. Had no issues/complaints. Primarily only do airport rides so what is this?

Uber may be one of the worst (London experience), and the most irresponsible, casual, laid back company about issues likes this - My bag was left forgotten in the car

, and till today I didn't get an answer, and the communication point they provided me to call the driver doesn't work it immediately cuts off/ drops. And the other option which is basically nudging the driver through Uber app for the item returns "we are still waiting for a response from the driver". It is now over 2-3 days, and I'm outside the country - I have also informed them about the urgency but as it is, it seems rather they take things very casually and laid back - if not more than happy to steal my bag

Long Distance PAY SUCKS

Post image

In my 7+ years with uber/lyft I have never once seen a request that was worth taking. On occasion maybe to take them. But definitely never for that return trip. This being a pet ride most likely means 1-2 stops and cleanup. Even in the best of cases you gonna have pet hair to clean up. 6hr round trip before stops. Total of 284.4 miles.

Let's do this math.

$137.07 - $40 (guessing gas) = $97.07 ÷ 6 = $16.17hr. No freaking way.

*now Tennessee does not have vehicle inspections. Arkansas does. Saying that I can drop off in Arkansas but that 142.2 miles back I can't work the app heading back home. 1million% not worth taking

Uber out they damn mind.

10 rides last night not a single tip. WTF?

Clean car, 21 Sorento. No smells or issues. Its a college town, I even got out of my car and helped with bags, and in one case I even got out of my car and helped take a group photo as everyone was leaving. 500+ five star ratings. 4.98 overall (Only two bad reviews people scamming free rides before I got my dashcam)

One of the rides even said if I waited she would tip extra because she was slightly delayed.

I just don't get it. I honestly hate this fucking job lately. Uber is taking so much more of the fare than last year in this area too.

Its almost like the riders see surge as the tip in this area. But it's surging because no one wants to drive anymore for what these shit rates are and no tips.

Wow, Uber's app sucks compared to Lyft.

So firstly, I've looked an researched... it literally doesn't allow us to just block passengers like Lyft does? Wow.

Secondly... here's what happened to me tonight:

I pulled up to the pickup, of course they take their sweet time, finally come walking out, a couple and 2 little kids. I ask them if they have a car seat, we do the whole "I do this all the time" "sorry but I'm following policy and the law" stuff.

So I cancel for no car seat, a safety issue, and pull away.

Then, as I'm pulling out of their complex, Uber sends me the SAME ride again for $1 more... the fuck? I hit the X as I already know they don't have a car seat.

Pull out onto the street, they send me the same ride AGAIN, $2 less now, I reject it again.

They proceed to try and send it to me 2 more times before I just go offline.

What the hell is that garbage system? So Uber doesn't even un-pair them from you for the time being if you cancel a ride OR reject a ride offered in queue? Thankfully I take Lyft more seriously and don't care about my acceptance rate on Uber or I'd be pissed getting like 5 rejections on my stats over a single ride.

Uber Tasks UNUSABLE

Post image

I signed up for doing the extra tasks as soon as it was available to me, and I don’t know if there’s something I’m missing but I haven’t had a single task in probably two weeks! There’s no channel on the support to raise a concern about this because it’s so new but it genuinely hasn’t worked once for me.

Are We Expected to Load Passengers’ Luggage Despite Having Back Problems?

• Upvotes

I’m not sure if it’s okay to post this here since I’m a taxi driver, not an Uber driver, and I hope this isn’t a silly question.

I’m in my early twenties, and unfortunately, my job has caused me to develop a herniated disc and sciatica, mainly due to sitting for long hours and lifting heavy passengers’ luggage and putting it in the trunk.

I wanted to ask, Is it acceptable for taxi drivers, or even Uber drivers, to ask passengers to put their own luggage in the trunk, while the driver only helps arrange it if necessary? Or are drivers generally expected to lift and load passengers’ bags themselves?

I’m trying to protect my back and avoid making my condition worse, but I also want to be professional and provide good service to my passengers.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hi, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced this with Uber and if anyone knows what or if I can do anything about it. I had this problem when I first tried onboarding too. They kept gaslighting me when I was trying to upload the documents. Over and over and over saying they can't accept them because out of focus or whatever. I knew after awhile they were just giving me the runaround so just gave up after trying everything.

Then all of a sudden 3 mths ago I get a notification that I can drive with them so I did past 3 mths gaining a Gold 5 star status. Then just recently had to renew police check and vehicle inspection. Back to the same shenanigans as in the beginning. They keep gaslighting me and won't accept the renewed documents after submitting them each multiple times. Now my documents have expired and I am not able to drive for them. I got super angry with them, calling them out on it and telling them they just lost a good driver. I totally fed up with them now.

Uber Drivers: Is Uber Taking Back Your Reimbursements? Check Your Breakdown! ⭐

Thumbnail
gallery
11 Upvotes

I’m an Uber driver, and I recently discovered something concerning in my weekly earnings breakdown. I’m sharing this because I believe other drivers should check their statements carefully.

Here’s what happened:
On October 18, 2026, a passenger spilled alcohol inside my vehicle. I reported the incident to Uber and received a $55 cleaning reimbursement.

However, when reviewing my Customer Fare Breakdown for October 12–19, 2026, I noticed something unusual:

Total Customer Fare: $1,203.30
Post-trip Adjustments: −$55.00
Cleaning Reimbursement credited separately: +$55.00
My Fare Earnings: $472.26

The negative $55 appears under “Government taxes, third-party fees, and regulatory-related charges” in my Customer Fare Breakdown.

Why was exactly $55 deducted from the total customer fares during the same week Uber credited me a $55 cleaning reimbursement?

Was this $55 actually charged to the passenger and then removed from the fare breakdown to be paid separately? Or did this adjustment reduce the fare earnings I otherwise would have received?

I am not claiming to have proven either explanation. I want Uber to provide an actual accounting reconciliation.
Here’s where things became even more concerning.
I contacted Uber Support repeatedly and asked them to explain the negative adjustment.

Instead of answering, representatives repeatedly confirmed that I had received the $55 reimbursement — something I never disputed.

I repeatedly requested escalation to a supervisor or someone in Payments/Accounting who could review the transaction records.

Several conversations were closed without a meaningful explanation.
One representative eventually claimed:
“The $55 deduction is required due to government policy, third-party charges, or other legal or safety reasons.”
When I asked which specific law, government regulation, or policy required this deduction, I did not receive supporting documentation.

I’m attaching screenshots of the fare breakdown, reimbursement, and conversations with Uber Support so you can see exactly what happened.

I’m asking every Uber driver to check something:
If you have EVER received a cleaning fee, damage reimbursement, cancellation-related credit, promotional adjustment, or any other reimbursement or credit from Uber:

Open your Customer Fare Breakdown for the same week.
Check the “Post-trip Adjustments” and other deduction categories.

Look for any negative amount that exactly matches your reimbursement or credit. Compare it with your weekly Earnings Statement.

If you find a match, ask Uber whether that adjustment reduced your actual fare earnings.
Please share what you find in the comments, including the reimbursement amount, adjustment amount, date, and Uber’s explanation. Do not share passenger details or personal account information.

I want to know whether this is simply an accounting presentation that Uber has failed to explain, or whether drivers are being financially affected.

If multiple drivers identify the same unexplained pattern, we should document the evidence, request formal accounting reviews, and consider coordinated complaints or legal consultation if the records show improper deductions.

This is about transparency and accountability. Drivers deserve to know where their money comes from and how their earnings are calculated.

Has anyone else noticed this?

And here’s what I think every driver needs to pay close attention to:
Uber may explain these matching deductions as merely accounting adjustments, different reporting categories, or money being moved between statements. But we should not simply accept that explanation without seeing the actual numbers.

The real question is whether these so-called accounting adjustments are reducing the fare earnings we would otherwise have received.

Think about it: If Uber deducts $55 from the customer fare calculation and then credits us $55 as a “reimbursement,” did we actually receive an additional $55 in compensation? Or did Uber simply move money around and present it as a reimbursement?

A matching deduction and reimbursement do not automatically prove that drivers lost money. But they absolutely deserve a clear, transaction-level explanation.

Don’t just check whether Uber credited your reimbursement. Check whether an equivalent amount was deducted elsewhere, and more importantly, whether that deduction affected your actual earnings.

If Uber claims it’s just an accounting adjustment, ask them to prove it with a complete reconciliation showing what customers paid, what Uber retained, and what you actually earned.

We need transparency, not vague explanations.

We already lose valuable time and income cleaning up messes caused by passengers instead of taking rides. And now I’m questioning whether Uber actually reimburses us as promised.

If Uber handled this correctly, why have more than 10 support agents repeatedly avoided my questions, given vague answers, and asked the same questions over and over?

For example, I mentioned the $55 amount at least five times, yet an agent still asked me how much I was disputing. Then, barely 30 seconds later, they claimed I hadn’t responded and immediately closed the chat without giving me a reasonable chance to reply.

At this point, it feels like they’re deliberately wasting my time, hoping I’ll give up or get frustrated enough to stop asking questions.

If everything is legitimate, why is it so difficult to get one clear, straightforward answer?

Which payout method do you prefer?

I’m starting Uber soon and trying to choose the best payout method. For drivers here, what’s been the most reliable for you, weekly deposits, Instant Pay, or the Uber Pro Card? I’m looking for real experiences with fees, speed, and any issues. Thank you in advance for your help.
