Good day everyone!
The mod team has noticed a drastic uptick in insult bot behavior in the sub. I understand reading can be difficult, but of our few rules in place the one that sees the most action is the no personal insults aka Rule 2.
We've been exceedingly lenient with reminders and a dash of warnings. However, the issue persists and pops up in site wide posts that draw in non regular users. Since this is kind of harshing the vibe we're temporarily pausing reminders and warnings and going into straight 7 day bans.
What does personal insult mean?
Any sort of insult directed at the user themselves in response to a comment.
What isn't a personal insult?
Insulting public figures, people not directly related to the conversation thread, etc.
For instance, you can say dems/republicans/breatharianism are idiots. If you're talking to a dem/republican/breatharianism you cannot call them an idiot.
Debate the position or policy, do not disparage the user.

They just scammed my boyfriend out of 4,000 dollars for a car repair that didn’t even fix the problem and now he’s had to bring it back and they’re keeping it overnight before giving him another quote that’ll probably be another exorbitant amount of money. They told him he needed to replace all these parts, which funny enough, I read several reviews of other people saying they were told needed to be replaced as well and which also didn’t fix their car’s actual problem. Clearly there’s a pattern here. I’m just very angry for him and don’t want this to happen to other people.

Since August, Home Depot parking lots around Seattle have become hotspots for immigration arrests. In the past two months, they've documented at least 40 arrests.
One man who was arrested in September made his living for 30 years in these parking lots, getting hired for odd jobs.
~ Forty arrests in two months, and the only people keeping count are volunteers who show up with breakfast and know your rights flyers.

I counted 23 mallards, two seagulls, one greater white fronted goose, and too many pigeons to count but I'm going to guess 150.

For the last year or so I've been quietly wondering if my eyesight was starting to suck.
Rainy night, dark road, headlights coming the other direction and suddenly I'm concentrating way harder than I should be just to figure out where my lane actually is. Some stretches around Seattle turn into this shiny black surface where the old markings, pavement seams and actual lane lines all look equally convincing.
I had an eye exam. Everything was fine.
Then recently I rented a car out of state and drove through a pretty heavy rainstorm after dark. The lane markers lit up like someone had plugged them in. I could see the curve of the road several car lengths ahead without trying.
Oh.
Apparently driving at night isn't supposed to involve choosing whichever faint stripe feels spiritually correct.
Coming back here made the difference ridiculous. Last week I was on an unfamiliar road in the rain and caught myself following the car ahead partly because it was easier than identifying the lane myself. That's not exactly a reassuring traffic system.
I'm not expecting every road to glow like an airport runway, but for a place where wet pavement and darkness overlap for a significant chunk of the year, being able to see the lanes seems like a fairly basic feature.
At least I can stop blaming my eyes.

Of the 40 cities across King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap Counties that are expected to accommodate the largest share of regional housing growth through 2044, just 14 are on track and many are significantly behind.
Bellevue did better, seeing more than 5,000 units built against a similar target. Tacoma saw more than 7,000 new units, but has an even more ambitious growth target of 43,000.
~ The region only looks on pace because Seattle built 70,000 units against a prorated target of 31,000. Take Seattle out of the spreadsheet and the math collapses.

We’re holding an informational picket on October 30th this Friday at 7 to 9 am and 12 to 2 pm] at the main entrance on Seneca We will shouting to advocate for safe staffing..
Safe staffing simply means having enough qualified nurses to give every patient the time, attention, and care they deserve. When facilities are understaffed, patients may face longer waits, delayed treatment, and a greater risk of mistakes—while we struggle to meet the community’s needs.
This affects all of us. Please join us, share this post, and help us stand up for safer healthcare in our community.

I am a frequent concert go-er and without fail, I have to ask people to please stop talking during ANY concert here in Seattle.
When did we all forget what live music is about? Showing up, supporting artists, singing along, dancing, having fun.
Why does everyone think this is the time to catch up with their friends and chit chat at obnoxious levels?
I beg you Seattle, please remember your etiquette. Go to dinner and catch up before - stand outside and catch up before - literally catch up anywhere before going inside a venue people have paid a small fortune to enter and enjoy the music.

Honeycrisp is pretty much the only kind of apple I eat. Last year's crop was fantastic, juicy, sweet, crisp. This fall, I've tried the new batch at Whole Foods, Costco, and the Yakima fruit stand up in Bothell. Very lackluster, not very sweet, almost kind of vegetal.
Were there just worse growing conditions for honeycrisp this year? Anyone getting amazing ones from anywhere?

What a waste. Here in the coffee capitol of America, the birthplace of Starbucks, we had two and now we don't have any. The Cap Hill location was a terrific place to hang out on the weekday, a great date spot, and a major tourist attraction. On the weekend, the line went all the way down to the bridge sometimes.
I was just in Chicago a few weeks ago and the Roastery there is also a major, major tourist attraction. It's extremely nice, I really enjoyed my visit.
We still don't really have a good answer on why it closed, but all I can say is I really miss it.

Hi everyone! If I need to post this on a different sub, just let me know and I’m sorry in advance lol.
Traveling to WA state for the first time next year for a concert at the Gorge and staying in Seattle for part of the trip.
Not sure if we’ll have time for both national parks, so I’m asking which one is “better” to go to? For the best hikes/wildlife/views.
We’re only there for a week and I’m not sure if everyone will be down to go to both.
We’re late 20’s from the south for reference.
Thank you!!

Hi all, I live on the Eastside and I'm a high school student. I built a nonpartisan voter guide for the local state congress districts for the 2026 election, and the mods said I could share it here.
Lantern Vote grades the candidates in 16 competitive races in AAPI districts on five issues critical to the AAPI community: immigration and visas, zoning and neighborhoods, education, language access, and hate-crime justice. Ratings are based on each candidate's voting record and stated positions.
The two Washington races that involve the eastside are:
WA-08: https://lanternvote.org/race-wa-08.html
WA SD-30: https://lanternvote.org/race-wa-sd-30.html
Full guide: https://lanternvote.org (also in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Tagalog)
Happy to answer questions about how the ratings work. If something looks off, I want to hear it.
