On-Air Moments Kudos to the programming today

It was a wonderful surprise to hear John interviewing Jeff Ament on the Morning Show about his new book , and then associated music and then an in studio session on Cheryl's show with Modest Mouse? Heck yea. I was not forewarned!

A recent addition to the office is a small Bluetooth speaker but with FM radio, too. And I'm there from 6 to 6 or later. I do feel less alone. I don't turn it off.

For most of the past, I'd mostly stream with earbuds, but the connection would drop as I moved about the building and bumper spots galore. Also, there's a delay if you're listening online, so hot tip: if you want to enter to win tickets your entry will get in earlier than a listener online. I've won tickets more than once. Purely anecdotal.

Sorry friend below but, I have the same question. Just found this one in a pile of shirts that didn’t fit for a very long time and I have no idea when it’s from.

I'm building some lists of the most played albums on KEXP. Do you have suggestions of other lists than most played in a year?

Music Sharing Weakerthans Virtute Saga

I was listening to The Midday Show the other day and Cheryl played Plea From a Cat Named Virtute by The Weakerthans. As a sensitive cat owner, it totally hit home. Then I listened to the rest of the trilogy and it totally devastated me! As Cheryl is a big lover of cats and this band, I’m wondering whether we’ve ever heard her dig in on this trilogy and its themes?

On-Air Moments What an OG Thursday! Thanks Larry!

Today's Afternoon Show with Larry Mizell, Jr. was my favorite.

I am a work-from-home software dev who normally does back-end Java development. Currently working on front-end HTML and CSS, which is not really my thing.

Larry, you helped me power through the frustration of working in an area I don't have much experience with. Not sure why your set hit right today, maybe because it was so different? But it did... Thanks!

25 years' worth of "Listeners' Favorite Albums" lists - analyses and visualization

Hey fellow KEXP listeners. Last April, I shared some files I've been curating for the last 20+ years, capturing all of the albums from the various KEXP "Listeners' Favorite Albums" countdown lists over the past 25 years. Well, I've built off of that and am happy to share a little blog I just published that leverages this data for what will be an ongoing series of analyses and visualizations. And yeah, it's super nerdy if that's your thing. Hat tip to u/malist42 for help with some of the data as I was pulling this together.

Kevin Sur is crushing it on the morning show.
That’s it. That’s the post. Definitely going to be revisiting this show in the archive a lot over the next couple weeks.

Tickets to death and music

Hello friends, I used to attend death and music before there was such thing as buying tickets before hand. I forgot to look and see what date it was this year so I’m feeling a little bit sad that it’s sold out.

Does anyone have two extra tickets?

And if you did, how would I get them?

Monday's drive time missing from archive?

Was hoping to re-listen to it but I'm not seeing it anywhere on the streaming archive. Am I just blind or is it missing for some reason? I see The Afternoon Show at 1:07 and then El Sonido.

90s Songs Countdown - Surprise Absences

540 songs from the 90s is a lot, especially when the genres included hip hop and electronica and pop. Were there any surprise absences for you?

I was kind of surprised at the relative lack of Tool (I think Sober was the only song on the list) and complete absence of Primus.

I was also disappointed that The Immortals’ Techno Syndrome (Mortal Kombat) didn’t make it, considering how awesomely 90s that track is.

90's countdown. I remember Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden was popular, but that is my one song I cannot stand for really no good reason.

I was in the Navy when that song came out. Had to get paperwork once a week first time in the morning. Show up and the person who I needed the paperwork never had it ready. I was on his time... This song was on each time I showed up.
