Help Switching from old PC to iMac m6 - where to start?

Hey there đŸ‘‹đŸœ as the title says, I’m planning on switching to the new m6 iMac. I’m not getting it specifically for gaming and I’m not sure how to spec it out. I don’t really want to waste money maxing it out if I don’t need to and don’t want to go barebones either. Also, I’m not sure what to expect realistically gaming?

Games I usually play and are interested in are: dragons dogma 1/2 (modded)
Skyrim (wabbajack mods), baldurs gate 3 (modded) pillars of eternity, osrs, digimon time stranger, fire emblem, maybe some emulation and things that may be considered niche. Not particularly interested in trying to play gta vi, but would consider tes6 đŸ€·đŸœ

Thanks!

Discussion Lack of details and information about AI vibe coded native game mac ports

‱ Upvotes

I am seeing a ton of post and videos of vibe coded mac native ports of games

But i never see detailed info about it is so dam annoying, like anyone care explaining the current situation about these ports? And the current situation of mac native ports? Like the botw and totk native ports, and other platform games ports

Do they run well without stuttering freezes or visual artifacts/glitches ??

Can they be run from start to finish until completed 100%, or the game is gonna brake at some point ?

Wich games really work 100%? Does it even worth the effort to do it? Or the technology is so young that its like Quality Testing rn?

Its so annoying to be flood with these native ports and tools but no info about if they run like their native counterpart, problems, performance issues etc

Due to the lack of this i havent even tried any of those ports i feel they are just garbage and waste of time, every single one of them

Not to mention that people have lost their files, erased their folders or similar bad problems trying to run them

CrossOver For anyone who owns an Air and was thinking of trying ARC Raiders and THE FINALS, don’t.

I have tried both, and as expected and seen in other heavy titles, the Air thermal throttles. You won’t get 60 fps.

I tried on M4 Air 16GB, everything low, FSR Ultra Performance, hit a max of 40 fps. Memory pressure was in yellow.

The game could run at good frames on base Pros and very good on Pro Chips and as expected excellent on Max and Ultra chips.

Just a heads up, if anyone was thinking of trying this.

Self promotion Your Steam library, playable in a browser on Mac. No gaming PC required.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey r/macgaming!

I shared Nuage here a week ago. It's a cloud gaming service I've been building so I can play my Steam games on my Mac, directly in the browser.

One of the biggest limitations was the game catalog. If a game wasn't already available, I had to manually add it myself.

I've been working on changing that.

Now players can bring their own Steam games to Nuage. If a game isn't already installed, it can be downloaded onto our cloud machines. Once it's installed, other players who own that game can launch it too, without downloading another copy.

So the game library grows with the community, rather than being limited to a list I maintain.

The experience I'm working toward is simple: open your Mac, pick a game you own, and play. No gaming PC, Windows installation, or local game downloads.

It's still a beta. Some games won't work, and new games need an initial installation before they're ready for fast launches. I'm actively improving compatibility and startup times.

I'm curious: what's the one Windows-only Steam game you've been wanting to play on your Mac?

I'm not the biggest gamer, but I'm thinking of upgrading my 2015 Intel Macbook so I can play more of my steam library when I'm about because my 11 year old mac is weak as shit.

I've also heard something about Rosetta happening in macos 28, could someone also please explain that?

My current Mac is a 2015 air with an i5 and 8gb of ram, 128 gb storage, it's alright ig.

Thank you

Help What is the best option for BOTW on Mac?

I want to play BOTW on my macbook air m1 (16gb ram), and I tried playing with CEMU or Atriz and it didn't run that well. I saw these new recomps that are out and I saw two main options, one if the macnative recomp and the other is the nxnative.

For the guys who have tested both, which one is the best for my case? talking about performance, stuttering, etc

Native LEGO Indiana Jones running natively on Mac Silicone

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As a continuation of my LEGO recomp series, we can now run Lego indie form the windows version natively.

It's using the same principle where DXVK translate to Vulkan, and Vulkan to Metal.

Repo link: https://github.com/itsdunintime104/IndyRecomp

And to keep things organized, I consolidate a tool into a unified repo https://github.com/itsdunintime104/MacRecomp

Please let me know if you run into any issues, I've played a several levels with no issues. And it's good to feel nostalgic with one of my fav childhood games.

CrossOver Got Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut running on a base Mac mini M4 (16GB) with CrossOver + the F16C fix

‱ Upvotes

Wanted to see if a base Mac mini could handle Ghost of Tsushima, and it actually runs. I made a video showing the whole setup.

My setup:

  • Mac mini M4, 16GB unified memory, 256GB SSD
  • CrossOver 26.3
  • F16C fix from PCGamingWiki (without it the game won’t get past the start)

What worked for me:

  • Medium graphics settings
  • FSR instead of DLSS, since DLSS gave me weird colour issues
  • Frame Generation and Dynamic Resolution Scaling OFF during the first katana pickup animation. Once that works properly you can try turning them on.

Performance will vary depending on your Mac, settings and CrossOver version, so this is just what worked on my machine.

Full walkthrough (setup, the fix, settings): https://youtu.be/J7rb-lJUyoU
F16C fix: https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/3122-ghost-of-tsushima-f16c-instructions-fix/

If you try it on a different Mac, tell me how it runs. I’m curious how it does on M1/M2/M3 and on 8GB machines.

Apple Silicon I'm making a game about flying fighter jets and defeating colossal Kaiju

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm using a macbook m2 to create the game and the Unity game engine. The game runs beautifully smooth on a macbook m1 air as well, and also runs on older intel based macbooks.

Here is some info about my game, which is called Kaiju Ace:

Kaiju Ace is a combat flight simulator where you pilot fighter jets against colossal kaiju. Defend cities, escort supply convoys and intercept airborne threats in a persistent career with generated missions.

There are 24 jet fighters to unlock; 8 light fighters, 8 carrier capable fighters, and 8 bombers. I've also created tutorials to help teach how to fly, target and land (including on the carrier).

The game is coming to Steam and you can find it there by searching for Kaiju Ace.

Native Native Zelda TotK on Mac and iPad is real, and it's open source

This one is wild. Zelda-Mobile runs the Switch release of Tears of the Kingdom (v1.4.3) natively on Apple silicon. The game's ARM64 code executes directly on the Apple CPU, the system services are reimplemented, and NVN graphics are translated to Metal. On Mac you can load saves and play scenes with keyboard or an Xbox controller (with rumble), plus audio, cutscenes and 30/60/90 FPS targets. iPad (M1 or newer) gets touch controls, and the iPhone 15 Pro build reaches the title screen. It's still early: shaders stutter on the first visit to a new area, and not every area holds 60 FPS. The repo is source code only, so you need your own game and keys dumped from your own console. Repo: github.com/OJZen/totk-mobile

Who's trying this on an M1 Air?

Native is the first time I see this amount of fps on minecraft

I have a pro m5 pro 14 24ram (I don't know why it gets this amount only if I plug in external monitor, without it it gets 1k fps)

I know that has no sense having this amount of fps but is so optimised

standard settings provided by the modpack (24 chunk render distance) the only downside is that doesn't support shaders

enjoy

Help M6 14 inch MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM vs 11-core M3 Pro 14 inch MacBook Pro with 18 GB of RAM?

The latter is the one I have right now, and I was wondering if buying the former would be an upgrade or a downgrade? I know it has two less GPU cores and less RAM but apparently it has better ray tracing and CPU performance or whatever? Which one would be better to play Minecraft with shaders?

Help Playing Mass Effect LE modded on Macbook?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

I have the Mass Effect Legendary edition on PS5 and I don’t own a gaming pc. I was going to try and use Crossover on my Macbook Pro because I want to experience some mods I keep seeing, but I’m not sure if that’s possible.

It’s the first M1 from 2021, 16GB RAM. My plan was to use Crossover, but I’m not sure if Nexus mods are supported?

This is an update to this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/s/cIFZzUGRWb
This should help narrow down possible solutions I hope! Weird that this wasn’t popping up before, it only started popping up after I did a software update on my Mac. Now running the Mac OS Golden gate 27.7
Any suggestions appreciated!
