Serious Washing hats
Hey guys,
I need to wash some golf hats. I’m thinking about soaking them in the tub or using one of those hat holders for the washing machine.
Any other suggestions? Can’t seem to find much info in this sub.
EDIT: Clearly I was the only one who has seen all the hats in the dishwasher posts in the past few weeks. This is what I get for trying to be sarcastic/funny.

Beginner Questions Need Advice; 4 months into golf. Went from barely getting the ball airborne to hitting decent shots, and now I feel like I'm getting worse. How do you deal with this?
Hey everyone,
I started playing golf in mid-June this year, and I was absolutely dogshit when I started. I genuinely couldn't get the ball more than a foot off the ground.
But I fell in love with the game.
I started playing every weekend, took a few lessons, spent time at the range, and slowly started seeing improvement.
Last month, things suddenly started clicking. My pitching wedge was going 130–140 yards, my 7-iron was reaching 170–180, and, more importantly, my dispersion was getting tighter. Those horrible shots that went miles left or right had almost disappeared.
There's a little nine-hole par-3 course near where I live, and I managed to shoot a 35 and a 37 there. For someone who couldn't even get the ball airborne a few months ago, that felt incredible.
And then October happened.
Suddenly, I'm slicing the ball. As I started getting more comfortable with longer clubs, an entirely new problem showed up. Earlier, my biggest issues were chunking and thinning shots. Now I've added a slice to the collection.
My distances are still there, but my consistency seems to have packed its bags and left.
I'm now struggling to break 40 on the same course where I was shooting 35–37 just a month ago. Some days, I feel like I've forgotten how to swing a golf club.
There's also something else that's been getting to me, and I'm not particularly proud of it.
I regularly play with people who've been golfing much longer than I have. Some of them don't really count all their strokes. Mishits get ignored, penalty strokes disappear, and drops are taken wherever it's convenient. Yet, at the end of the round, they're the ones walking away with the better scores.
I know I shouldn't care. I know I'm only four months into this game. And I know comparing my honestly counted scores to someone else's creative accounting is pointless.
But sometimes it still gets to me.
I love golf. I genuinely look forward to playing every weekend. But lately, I've noticed myself getting frustrated instead of enjoying something that made me so happy just a few weeks ago.
So I wanted to ask the more experienced golfers here:
How did you deal with the ups and downs when you first started?
How do you measure improvement when your scores and ball-striking seem to get worse despite putting in the effort?
And perhaps most importantly, how do you stop tying your enjoyment of the game to how well you played that particular day?
I'm not expecting to become a scratch golfer overnight. I just want to get better without letting every bad round ruin my mood.
Would genuinely appreciate some perspective from people who've been through this.

Swing Help Driver swing speed
Currently swinging my driver at around 107mph but I really want to break into that next bracket of 115mph+.
My ball speed usually sits in the high 150s, but the goal is to push it up to 170mph+.
For those who have successfully made a similar jump, what did you do that actually helped increase your cruising swing speed (not just a one-off max effort swing)?
Overspeed training (The Stack, SuperSpeed)?
Specific gym/strength programming?
Mechanical swing changes?

Equipment New Driver, Less Distance?
Weird thing I have going on here. Used to just use an old Walter Hagen MS2 driver for about the last 10 months or so. Head ending up coming off and that was the end of that club. Recently invested in a Used TaylorMade R9 Supertri. My thing is I was consistently getting 240-260 with the old Walter Hagen with a flex shaft. The guy at the store said that I should try Extra stiff shaft so that’s what my new driver has on it. But with the new driver I’m barely cracking 200 consistently. I’ve played 3 rounds with the new one and I’ve had only 2 drives over 235. I’ve used impact stickers and found that im hitting it off the heel but even when it’s in the sweet spot it still won’t get the distance. So is this a potentially a club problem? Or a me problem?

General Discussion Need help with overall mentality with golf
I’m a 13 hcp and get told that with my swing I should be at single digits now/in no time yet every time I play I get consistently worse. I practice for hours a week going off of videos I film of myself and fixing the flaws and playing 2-3 rounds a week yet I’m getting scores and shot outcomes that remind me of when I started. Although I get frustrated that I play bad, my main annoyance comes from the lack of incentive to play. I get no success from the hours of work I put in and it’s discouraging me to play. Last summer I would shoot in the mid 80s but for the past 5 or so months I’ve just been in a process of trying to break at least 100. I really need some help/general advice and I’m expecting people to say just get lessons however I’m a junior and I cannot afford them. Thank you for any help

General Discussion Does Tiger stop on the Swilcan Bridge at next years Open?
The Open is at St. Andrews next year. Let's assume Tiger is playing, I don't see how he misses this one unless it's due to injury or something crazy (let's not go there lol). Everything right now points to Tiger playing competitive golf next year, at least in some capacity.
There's not another date set (yet) beyond 2027 for the Open to be at St. Andrews. Does Tiger stop on the Swilcan Bridge at next years Open to show this is his last Open at St. Andrews or does he keep walking?
Personally I say Tiger stops whether it be Friday with a missed cut or on Sunday if he makes the cut. The man has earned the right to play as long as he wants and to bow out from the majors and world famous courses just like the other greats have done.
To the people saying Tiger shouldn't play again I'll just put this quote here of Tiger addressing Colin Montgomerie's comment about how he shouldn't play in the 2024 Open.
"He's not a past champion, so he's not exempt. So he doesn't get the opportunity to make that decision. I do... So, when I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn't."

General Discussion YouTube Golf
Just want to shout out how amazing of a time in the golf world we live right now. The amount of content between YGT, Internet Invitationals and obviously all the Majors. It feels like there’s truly no shortage of media to consume for golf, something I don’t think any other US sport can relate to.

General Discussion Returned Callaway Opus Wedge to Starter at El Prado in Chino
This was on the Butterfield course this past Sunday (10/25). What are the chances it makes it back to its owner? I’m new to golf and started thinking I should have said something like I know the guy from playing here but don’t have his contact info. Hoping they don’t just keep it.
If you’re on here, I hope you got it back! Sincerely Platinum II dude.

General Discussion Tiger to return to competitive golf "Do not go gentle into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
From all accounts he will be at this years Hero World Challenge, PNC Championship, is already signed up for the TGL, and will be at the 2027 Masters.

General Discussion Phoenix / Scottsdale Private Club Reciprocity.
I'll be in the PHX area for Thanksgiving week and was hoping to find a nicer course to take my friend's father out to. Trying to sort which courses are most likely to give reciprocity before I start asking my club pro to start making calls.
I'm also going to email a few of the head pros directly and ask about having my pro call out there and will report back.
Can't wait for the flaming of my post to start!

General Discussion Driver shaft and swing speed
Wondering if anybody else has insight on this.
I have a very high swing speed around 128mph (I don’t try to swing out of my shoes, that’s my natural swing)
I was fitted into a tour stiff shaft a couple years ago, primarily because of the high swing speed.
And my drives have suffered. I cannot feel the club head, so I hit all over the face and have lost tons of distance. For some reason I don’t even hit as far when I randomly catch one in the middle of the face.
My prior driver was an old r7 ht with a regular flex shaft. After trying it on the range again recently, it immediately felt more comfortable and my distance was back.
But my swing speed is WAY above a normal shaft recommendation.
If I decide to go back to the old driver, will I develop issues from the whippiness from the R flex over time after the honeymoon phase? Or should I try to meet in the middle with a stiff shaft?
I’m interested in the community thoughts and those who have similar experience. Cheers
Edit: Newer shaft is Tour EXTRA Stiff (typed too fast and forgot the x)
Also appreciate everyone’s insight and not just joking about the swing speed.
- The fitter was very unprofessional (not complaining, just acknowledging) and I know the best solution is a proper fitting. This post was more to start a discussion around my specific journey. Group thought type of mindset.
- I know there is much more than just stiffness involved, and still trying to understand kick points and torque more. I appreciate those explaining it.
- It really is a timing thing. I feel a proper fitting will keep me in either stiff or x-stiff, but customize the kick and torque to what feels best for my current swing.
- This isn’t an ego chasing thing. It would just be nice to consistently hit my biggest club longer than the 2-hybrid that I usually hit flush.

General Discussion Sheep Ranch: The Controversial Course
Sheep Ranch is a course I hear the most hate about. It's the only course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort without bunkers, it's own dedicated practice area, minimal grain affecting the putts (according to a caddie), and the most forgiving of the 5 championship courses on property.
For the same price as the other courses, nearly every golfer I've spoken to about this course has ranked it last - and for the same reasons I do too. But I'm here to say you should still play it. I still ranked this course #28 out of 172 courses I have played.
The setting is right on the cliffs and I would argue has possibly the best views on the property with 8 holes perched atop the dunes (Pacific Dunes and Bandon Dunes have about 6 holes along the coast).
I played it as my last 18 hole round and it was a nice send off after getting beat up by some of the other courses. I played with a couple mid-to-high handicappers that seemed to manage the course just fine.
If you're playing all of the other courses, it's definitely worth the walk. Manage your expectations by avoiding comparison against the other world-class courses on property and you'll get a lot out of it.

Beginner Questions Swing confidence for newbs?
I’ve been playing since July and putting a lot of time in, as well as a lesson or two a month. I know inconsistency is the soul of shit golf, but I’m hitting the point where I’m flushing my irons on the range and then, during the short walk to the tee, chonking / Scalding / shanking everything. Like my brain can’t connect the ease of movement from the range to the tees.
Is it as simple as ignoring everything and swinging like I’m on the range? Or just stick with the repetition until it clicks in any format? Or, is there some sort of dark ritual I can perform?
I’m aware the answer is probably “shut up and keep swinging” but curious to hear how others transitioned when first starting out.

Swing Help Tips on becoming more consistent?
I've been playing for 20 years this year, have never broken 80. Shot 80 on the nose in 2022 and decided my goal for 2023 was to break 80. Didn't happen, hasn't happened yet. I have been taking lessons and they really have helped me stop thinking about a lot of the small stuff. I can hit every shot. I went to the range Sunday, hit several balls with my 9i, hit them all almost perfect. I can hit my driver 300 though I would say I am typically 275ish. And that's plenty.
My problem in consistency.
Like on sunday, hole number 1 I sliced my tee shot OB after having hit several perfect shots on the range. I hooked my tee shot on number 4. But then on Number 7? I nearly drive the green on a 330 par 4. Hit the ball perfectly and hit it exactly where I aimed. Then number 8? Banana slice. Number 12, long par 5 I hit it dead straight and then hit the green in 2. Number 13? short par 3 and I hit it short in the water... and so on.
And this is a course I am a member of, I play 3 times a week so it's not like I don't know the course.
I understand that even the best in the world hit bad shots. But my bad shots are BAD. And again it's just inconsistent. Is there something anyone has found in similar circumstances that helped them be more consistent for 18? When I play, on number 1 if I hit a good tee shot I usually say "1 down 13 to go. Like, I only need to hit 36 good balls in order to score dedcently but I just seem to have too many goof ups every round.
