Discussion What is this jelly-like thing?

I have found a few of them past weeks. Looks like “poop” but transparent. I caught it while it was attached yet, but there are more around the tank. If in not wrong, it’s a female axolotl, but I have another one who is male. They both have around a year, and I can only think about poop from eating earthworm or something related to reproduction. Can anyone identified what it is and if it’s not related with any illness? Thanks in advanced!

Sick Axolotl White flakes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,
So my axolotl had a white fungus infection about 2 months ago and I treated by quarantining in a separate clean tub. I tried giving black tea baths at least 2 times. It seemed to clear up but then it returned yesterday. It is this white fluffy stuff that grows on the external gills. I tried using the turkey baster to either suck up the white fungus or knock it off, but it wouldn’t come off. I ended up carefully removing it with the feeding tweezers which I know was probably stressful for my axolotl. I am aware that they can shed their slime coat if they’re stressed. I don’t think it’s a water quality issue as I monitor it biweekly. I am wondering if the shedding is caused by stress or the white fungus? I’m really stressed to have to figure out how to treat this infection again. I am also discouraged as my axolotl is only a year and a half (not too old) but has been having these infections despite what I thought was good water quality. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Also video is showing me filling the turkey baster with water to move the water around and show the white flakes scattered throughout the tank.

Also, my axolotl is now in a medical tub with dechlorinated water and a pH of 7.0

General Care Advice Neocaridina shrimp in axolotl tank?

I got duckweed that has baby Neocaridina shrimp. I didn’t know it was going to have as many shrimp or else I wouldn’t have put it in there. Is this fine to be in the tank with my boys? I’ve already put it in the tank 😅 helppp

Hi! any recommendations for treating salvinia before adding to the tank? I have read about the different dip methods and have seen some posts about carbonated water. Not sure if anyone has any recommendations specific to axolotls. Tyia!

General Care Advice Spot on face? Normal?

Thumbnail

My girl Momoko developed this blackish spot on her cheek. It started small and got a little bigger. She doesn’t seem bothered or affected at all, but I wanna make sure it’s not something I should worry about. She’s just about 2 1/2 years old. She used to have freckles across her forehead but they’ve since faded. Not sure if it’s the same thing?

Please let me know! Thanks!!

General Care Advice Axolotl unusual behavior, what does it mean?

So my axolotl is a little over two years now and all his (or potentially she) life has been chilling at the bottom of the tank. He usually hides in the caves and will occasionally come out at night. However, today I found him balancing on his tail in the corner of the tank close to the surface. He's been doing it all day! Is this normal? Should I be concerned??

Sick Axolotl Parasites or infection?

Thumbnail

I was away for a couple of days and left small guppies in my tank from my local fish shop for my axolotl. I asked the shop if i needed to quarantine them and they said no. I don’t have a separate cycled tank so I didn’t quarantine them. Since I have been back, for about two weeks my axo is spitting up worms even when feeding them every other day. There is also some slimy film when works are regurgitated. I have tubbed my axo with prazipro. I haven’t seen any worms. How do I clean my cycled tank? Do I need to give them some medication for an infection? I have my own worm farm at home.

Beginner Keeper High nitrate

As some of yall know who have seen my other posts I’ve been having a hard time with lowering my nitrates. I’ve done a 50% water change and a few 25% changes as well. It definitely has gone down but I’m really trying to get it to the good range. I know her gills will be harder to help grow back with the nitrates high. So in the pics it’s the same test but I can’t figure out if it’s red or orange😭 I know it’s still obviously high but I’m having trouble reading it. I’ve been looking into getting pothos but have yet to go get one. Any other suggestions? And maybe someone can help tell me where my levels are at because I can not for the life of me tell if it’s between 40 and 80 or 20 and 40. Also for the plants if yall are in the US is there anywhere online to get some pothos from that will show up good and are not extremely expensive?

General Care Advice Axolotl refusing to eat

8 year old axolotl he was eating only worms for about a year when I got but a few months ago he started rejecting them. So I tried pellets he’s eaten only about 4 pellets in the past few months. I’ve tried dropping them in front and on him, I’ve tried the bowl method and I’ve tried hand feeding. He refuses to eat them. The only thing I can get him to eat is raw shrimp but that isn’t a good diet. I know he’s not compacted cause he shows no signs but now he’s started to eat the plants in his tank and idk what to do to help him.
