Classifieds Venue suggestions for Rock Cover Band
Hi! I'm looking for some suggestions from some locals!
I assist a band based out of Charlotte that is trying to branch out next year to book some shows in other cities, Asheville being one of them! We're looking for ideas for good, local venues/bars that could support a 4 piece rock band (Covering everything from all genres. Artists on the set include Journey, Alice in Chains, Paramore, Rush, Primus, etc).
If anywhere comes to mind that you wouldn't mind dropping below, we would greatly appreciate it!
If anyone is interested in looking more into what we do, the band is called Queen City Siren. Thanks guys! <3

Politics Sign an open letter asking Asheville’s leaders and candidates for a plan to keep water and food flowing through a long outage
After Helene, much of our water and food was shipped in from outside. The next disaster could hit many places at once (a grid failure, or a cyberattack on water systems), and that help may not come.
I couldn’t find any public plan for keeping Asheville’s water and food flowing for weeks on our own.
So I wrote an open letter asking city and county leaders, and every candidate for Mayor and City Council, to commit to six concrete steps toward a viable disaster plan. Their answers are due Monday, November 2, the day before the election, and every response (and non-response) will be published unedited.
If you agree, please sign. It takes under a minute, and you can sign publicly or privately. This is fully independent and nonpartisan.

Unhoused Population My email to Councilmember Kim Roney regarding city planning and the S. Tunnel Road corridor
I am writing to share my perspective on our city’s growth, infrastructure, and community planning as we look toward the future of Asheville.
S. Tunnel Road is not just another street in Asheville; it is a primordial and integral part of Asheville’s economic landscape. It serves as a major commercial corridor, a vital tax base, and a primary gateway for tourists and residents alike. During some of my very first visits to Asheville, I stayed in the hospitality district on S. Tunnel Road. I experienced firsthand how essential this area is to our city's welcoming atmosphere and overall business vitality.
That is why I want to emphasize that the city's execution regarding the placement of a permanent supportive housing facility along S. Tunnel Road was severely flawed. Placing this type of facility directly in the heart of such a crucial economic hub has severely affected local businesses, taking a toll on an area that should be protected and supported by city leadership.
While I strongly believe our community needs to do much better in supporting our low-income and unhoused neighbors through dedicated, compassionate solutions, these initiatives must be implemented thoughtfully. City planning should never undermine a cornerstone of Asheville's business community to achieve those goals.
Thank you for your time, leadership, and dedication to our city. I look forward to hearing your vision for balancing social services with the protection of Asheville's vital commercial districts.
Sincerely,
Asheville Resident

Traffic Report Haywood Rd is a Recipe for Disaster
Does anyone else feel like the mix of young families, tourists, unstable and/or homeless drug addicts is a recipe for disaster? I live off Haywood and drive it every morning. I see people with children regularly walking or riding along the road around individuals who are totally unstable for a variety of reasons. Is anyone else concerned?

ai So is all of asheville contaminated by AI slop, or??
I went to the Grove Arcade in Asheville and this was among the flyers there, and all I have to say is wtf?? I'm a visitor to Asheville and this AI slop that wasn't even edited, let alone the owner's defensive reply, made a poor impression on me.
That was the owner's reply when I emailed them at their public address

Traffic Report Lack of street signs in Asheville
Does anyone have context for why Asheville doesn’t do a great job at making sure all streets have signs?
Is there a reason why this is harder here than in other cities? I never see or hear anyone talk about this and I would assume for a city so concerned with tourism we would prioritize ability to navigate around.
Does it have anything to do with the fact that many of our stoplights are span wire traffic cables rather than rigid metal masts?

Healthcare/Self-Care Functional medicine doctor? Anybody?
Hey y'all. Anybody have any recommendations? I'm aware that these types don't tend to take insurance. Looking for someone to help with the Bredesen protocol for preventing/reversing dementia and cognitive decline, if you're curious. I'm also aware that it's "unproven" but want to try it at least to some extent and see if it helps anyway. Thanks!

Classifieds Looking for retail or flex use space
Hey Asheville!
We've been looking for a while for retail space between Asheville and Black Mountain, preferably owner operated/managed or at least privately owned and not a mega investment group that bought up everything after the storm.
We're trying to open a reptile/exotic pet shop. We've run into every issue under the sun and it's getting frustrating as hell..
- found two places and got to our final inspection before signing a lease and found mold in one, and major HVAC issues in the other.
- found a few great spots but the Corp owners want ridiculous prices ($50+ per sqft for even off the beaten path locations)
- most are too large
If you know anyone looking to rent/lease a space, a sub-lease, or take over their lease, please let me know.
We've got hundreds of animals, supplies, accessories, and feeder animals that need to move into a space soon!
And before anyone says "Google is your friend," sure.. you'd think so. But so far we've found that the same 15 places are listed by everyone online but more importantly EVERY place we've found that's worth looking at is not even listed online - most of these empty retail locations are NOT easily found online or at all.

Classifieds Small Business Insurance NC renter recommendations
Hi! I am helping a very busy family member find new business insurance as her quoted business insurance premium is very high per the averages we are seeing online.
This quote is coming from "The Cincinatti Speciality Underwriters Insurance company" being coordinated from Bearing Insurance.
This is an NC business that rents their building. Before I reach out to new carriers does anyone have a carrier they recommend for a tenants only policy?
Thank you for your help!

Politics Are there less early voting locations this election?
Hi everyone,
I was planning on going to vote either today or tomorrow when I realized that the church right around the corner from me, where I usually vote, doesn't have the early voting signs out. I've voted at this location 2 elections in a row, and it is VERY convenient for me.
I just looked up voting locations and noticed that there seem to be significantly fewer locations than normal this election cycle. Has anyone else noticed this, or am I going crazy?

Photo/Video Help identifying a Jameson patch
I found this recently and based on where it was I’m assuming it’s several years old. It’s a standard iron-on/sew-on patch. I’m guessing it’s related to Rankin Vault but if you have more info I’d love to hear it.

Classifieds Kid friendly volunteer opportunities
A friend and I are wanting to do some local volunteering as we get closer to Thanksgiving; we both have younger kids (5 y/o) that’d we’d like to involve with this but are conscious of choosing a charity or opportunity that would be feasible for a young child to help with. Obviously not wanting to do road cleanup or something that would require caution or too much physical labor.
Any thoughts or ideas on this?
