Megathreads Hub for Developer Feedback and Playtest Requests

The moderators frequently get requests from developers who are seeking development feedback, survey participants, or playtesters. Our advertising guidelines are based around milestones and don't naturally cover these developer needs, so we're trying out a stickied megathread where developers can comment to request feedback or recruit playtesters from our community members.

This post is for developers who:

  • Have communicated with the moderators about their projects
  • Are making adventure games!
  • Want to engage our community for feedback or testing

It is for community members who:

  • Love sharing opinions and feedback with developers
  • Are seeking opportunities to playtest games

This post will be stickied, but anyone who wants to participate may wish to save or follow this post or its comment threads to be notified about new opportunities.

Please keep the comments here on topic of seeking and providing feedback, and if you have any questions, concerns, or feedback, message the moderators!

Hi, I am searching the digital version of the artbook Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards: Reloaded that was included in the kickstarter. Can anyone help me in this research? Sadly at the time I was too young.

After the Golden Age. Proudly behind its time.

Some people embrace the future. Others are still trying to figure out what to do with a rubber chicken.

Our protagonist belongs firmly in the second category.

In After the Golden Age, Omni3D, a powerful software corporation, has some ambitious plans for the future of gaming. Plans that don't exactly include keeping the old ways alive.

Enter Chester Sonoma. Not exactly the hero anyone would have chosen, but possibly the only one stubborn enough to stand in their way.

A missing friend, a corporate conspiracy, and a protagonist who seems determined to remain stuck in the past. What could possibly go wrong?

After the Golden Age is a traditional point and click adventure, deliberately made for those who miss the golden age of LucasArts and Sierra.

Developed in Adventure Game Studio, it features hand drawn pixel art, a classic four verb interface, inventory puzzles, exploration, and the kind of absurd humor that made us fall in love with those games in the first place.

I'm developing the game solo, creating the artwork myself, and trying to build the kind of adventure I'd love to play.

No generative AI is used in this game.

There's already a free playable demo on Steam:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5361990/

And you can find out more about the game on its official website:

https://coolchickengames.com/afterthegoldenage/

Some things never go out of style. Others proudly do.

Can we please talk about the remasted version of Flight Of The Amazon Queen

Im really dissapointed in the remaster. Its art is clearly upscaled with AI. Loads of enviromental text is unreadable now. The UI is broken, it doesnt show the correct action ui on the mouse cursor. Its pretty much always showing the feet/move symbol. The inventory doesnt work properly and the icons on the screen that show interactive spots are often offset.

Its a really poor remaster, sadly.

Clock Tower (1995) Review

Clock Tower! A classic horror-adventure game on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. A pioneer of many genre staples still seen in modern games, the game didn't leave Japan until 2024 with the release of Clock Tower: Rewind.

Capcom would come to own the franchise after Human Entertainment dissolved, and they would release a single new game that entirely changed genres before forgetting that it resides in their hoard of intellectual property. Does the game stand up to the test of time, or does it deserve to be buried in the annals of history?

Looking for a save file right after the wild boar / branch sequence — Broken Sword 2 Remastered (GOG) Spoiler

Hi everyone! I'm stuck on Zombie Island, at the wild boar sequence where George must quickly grab the branch after using the blowpipe.

I have retinopathy, which makes it extremely difficult for me to see the cursor change and click the branch within those few seconds. I've tried repeatedly in both the Remastered and 1997 versions, without success.

Would anyone be willing to share a Windows save file for Broken Sword 2 Remastered, immediately after George successfully grabs the branch and the boar opens the path?

I'd really love to continue the adventure. Thank you so much!

How do you guide players without making them feel like they're being guided?

I've been struggling with this while implementing my point'n'click game. I have finished the plot and most of the puzzle design, and feeling pretty happy so far. But...

The protagonist runs a funeral home and some days are meant to be uneventful. He does paperwork, runs errands, talks to people and follows his daily routine. But at certain points, something seemingly mundane triggers a more meaningful event to move the story forward. I think these quieter moments are important. They make the world more believable and give the bigger story moments more weight.

The tricky part is figuring out how much guidance to give the player.

Simplified example: Visit bank to talk to the banker (trigger), walk out, then there's someone new who wasn't there before, waiting on the street for you to talk to him (impact). How do I always give a reason for the player to know to go to the bank to talk, or should I accept that not every goal is 100% clear?

I can have the protagonist say things like "I should go check on X," but that feels too obvious and takes away the joy of discovery. On the other hand, giving no direction at all might leave players wandering around clicking on everything, hoping to trigger something. I'd like players to feel like they're naturally going about their day, without constantly being told what to do next or feeling completely lost.

The funny thing is, I don't remember thinking about this problem too much while playing other adventure games. So there must be some trick to getting this balance right that I'm missing. How do other games handle it? Any concrete suggestions for some clever guidance you have seen in some specific game?

Indie Adventure Game of the Week

Post image
41 Upvotes

I’m starting a weekly community spotlight and I want you to nominate the upcoming adventure games that deserve more attention.
Here’s what I’m looking for:

Game must be still in active development, with at least two of the adventure game pillars: exploration, puzzles, and storytelling as its focus.

Must be made by independent solo developer or small team with creative control over their game.

It must be made by official intelligence. No GEN AI. Just people bringing their ideas to life.

Nominate in the comment section. Include the game’s name, a link to its Steam page or project website, and what makes you excited about it. Developers, you’re welcome to nominate your own games!

I’ll check that nominees meet the criteria and choose one to spotlight each week.
Note: This will be posted on multiple platforms.

Let’s help these creators find their audience.

Unsound Love — a point-and-click adventure that removes both the pointing and the clicking

Unsound Love

"It feels to me like a point-and-click adventure game that removes both the pointing and the clicking, which I know makes very little sense, but it’s hard to explain otherwise."
- Paula Vaynshteyn from The Nerdy Type

Unsound Love is an adventure game with no combat. It features an open-world escape room with a linear story that you must explore and uncover in a non-linear way. You’ll do this by solving the game’s many puzzles.

All sounds, from the wind in the trees to the monsters' roars, are made with musical instruments. Everything has been drawn and animated by our graphic designer, Maria.

You can try our Next Fest demo on Steam:

I grew up loving point-and-click mysteries, so I made my own! No Murders in Grimwick is finally out on Steam 🍂

Hi everyone!

A few weeks ago, I shared the demo for my little point-and-click mystery, No Murders in Grimwick, here. I really appreciated all the kind comments and everyone who gave the demo a try!

I'm a solo developer from Canada, and I've always loved a good point-and-click adventure. Games like Stickville Murder Mysteries and Thimbleweed Park were big inspirations, and I wanted to create something that captured a bit of that nostalgic feeling I have when returning to those games.

In No Murders in Grimwick, you play as a journalist visiting a small-town harvest festival when a body is discovered as part of the scarecrow competition, the townsfolk are quick to insist that there are absolutely no murders in Grimwick. You'll explore the festival, question its odd residents, collect evidence, follow leads, and piece together what happened.

It's a short, story-driven adventure (approximately 1–2 hours) with dark, silly humor and no combat or time pressure. My goal was to make something you could sit down and enjoy over a cozy autumn evening.

And I'm excited to share that the full game is finally available on Steam! 🎃

Thank you to everyone who supported the demo. I hope Grimwick brings back a little of that old-school adventure-game nostalgia! 🫶🫶
