Megathread: a safe space for doomers

It’s Tuesday and we have to take care of gazillion individual dooming posts from now on.

You still can write a dooming post with new information, of course, stats and quotes that haven’t posted yet, all-22s showing pathetic performance etc, but please put all your "fire X", "Y sucks", "cut Z", "it’s so over" thoughts here.

KoolAid megathread coming on Thursday!

The Seahawks traded for Quenton Nelson and the 49ers traded for DeForest Buckner.

This is obvious interest to us since the Colts just dumped two of their best players. It's also of interest to us because we can compare these moves to the MHJ trade.

Seattle gave up next year's 3rd and 2028's 5th for an 8-time Pro Bowl guard. He's a free agent after this year.

San Francisco gave up next year's 4th for a 3-time defensive Pro Bowl defensive tackle. He's also a free agent after this year.

We gave up next year's 2nd for a wide receiver who can't get separation and has suspect hands. He's young and under contract through next season, with a club option for 2028.

These moves should make both the Seahawks and 49er's - both great teams - better. Did our move really make us better? Did we really need a WR with Dell close to coming back from injury? Was MHJ really worth a 2nd round draft pick when bone fide studs like Nelson and Buckner were obtained for less (though they are rentals, to be fair)?

DeMeco Isn’t the Biggest Problem. It’s Time to Start Holding Caserio Accountable.

I don’t think DeMeco is the biggest issue with this team. At this point, it’s a combination of poor personnel decisions, questionable coaching hires, and a lack of accountability. Too many decisions seem to be influenced by familiarity and connections rather than results.

If we’re pointing fingers, Nick Caserio deserves just as much scrutiny, if not more. We’re six seasons into his tenure and still dealing with the same offensive line problems. How many times are we going to rebuild that unit before questioning the person assembling it?

Look at Wyatt Teller and Braden Smith. A combined $36 million in contracts for two veterans who were expected to start but ended up losing their jobs. Nothing against either player, but what was the plan? That’s a significant investment in expensive depth while the offensive line continues to struggle.
Then there’s Reed Blankenship. We don’t know whether Caserio or DeMeco pushed for that acquisition, but it’s another significant investment that deserves scrutiny. These decisions are presumably collaborative, but ultimately Caserio is responsible for constructing the roster.

On the coaching side, Caley looks completely in over his head, and Popovich hasn’t demonstrated he can consistently get the most out of the offensive line. At some point, you have to question both the talent evaluation and the coaching.

The lack of discipline is equally concerning. 58 penalties for 508 yards through seven games, 29 missed tackles against the Giants, and four losses on the final possession. That’s not just bad luck. That’s poor preparation, execution, and accountability.
DeMeco isn’t blameless. He’s responsible for his staff, the team’s discipline, and getting the most out of his players. His reluctance to make coaching changes deserves criticism. But we’re also talking about someone who took this franchise to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons. One disappointing year shouldn’t erase that.

Caserio needs to answer for the personnel decisions, and DeMeco needs to hold his coaching staff accountable. I’d rather see this organization address those issues before throwing away a head coach who’s already proven he can win. In my opinion, DeMeco is far from the problem. He’s built a competitive team with the personnel he’s been given, established a winning culture, and brought consistent playoff football back to Houston. His track record speaks for itself.

I understand the frustration because I’m frustrated too, but some of these fair-weather fans need to take a deep breath and relax. Calling for his job after one disappointing season is ridiculous. We’ve finally found a head coach worth building around, and I genuinely believe firing DeMeco would be a mistake that haunts this franchise for years to come.

What are Demeco Ryan’s strengths and is he a top 15 NFL HC?

Would the Texans really benefit from another year of his coaching ?

🤬 Rant/Complaint Caley is the PERFECT OC.......

.....for Demeco Ryans.

It's becoming abundantly clear that this entire coaching staff has a way of doing things. THEIR WAY.

They all want to run the scheme they want to run, call the plays they want to call, and put it on the players to execute it perfectly.

If the other teams coaches find weaknesses to exploit, it's on the players to make up for the schemes shortcomings. Elite pass rushers, check. Play off coverage so quick throws are available. One player going off (CeeDee & Nabors) no reason to double them or roll.covrrage their way. Players just need to cover the short and deep passes from 8-10 yds off the LOS.

Probably the best WR room in all of football 1-7, but coaches want to be a run first/last/always offense. OL has weaknesses, but still going to keep calling and running plays pretending they don't exist and expect the players to magically just do it. 7 WRs and 4 TEs active, all talented. 6 linemen on the field for most of the plays.

Banks played really well against Nico by pressing him and not giving a free release. Never called a play the put Nico in a position with motion or stacks to give him space.

The biggest weakness of this team right now is rigid, insane coaching staff that is NOT doing a good enough job on ANY side of the ball. Not making the adjustments. Not designing/calling plays to maximize the teams strengths and minimize/cover their weaknesses. This team is the most talented Texans team in the 25 year history of the franchise, and poor coaching is going to cost us the opportunity to put a bull on the ring.

Ya we really needed another mouth to feed at wr and someone that has to grow a ton

We definitely didn't need a ready to go guard that's super bowl caliber

Thoughts on Caserio

I see the consensus after 2-5 that caserio should be gone. I think he’s pretty tremendous at drafting outside of offensive line, and even then, Juice Scruggs is playing at a pro bowl level in Detroit.

Caserio’s biggest sin is his coaching hires. The JCU and NE guys are just not cutting it. My ideal situation is Demeco and Caserio replace offensive coordinators and position coaches, but Demeco has final say. Caserio keeps doing his thing in the draft.

Maybe the 2026 draft class was a stinker, but it’s pretty darn hard to tell after 7 weeks. I thought we were told from the beginning that Marlin was a project.

Can someone who is in the “fire Caserio” camp make your case. I would genuinely like to understand.

Who do you want to see as coach in 2027?

Way too early of course. But the season, I think, is over. But I'm interested in where the fan base is on this. Keep Demeco with new coordinators? Only get rid of Caserio? Specific name in mind? People underestimate how hard it is to find good coaching, but I feel the Texans gotta change now. It was a good effort by Demeco, but we need a winning culture in Houston after 25 years of not having it.

Let’s be Real…

Minus the obvious rage baiting and downright crazy takes, we know what this team is.

Both Nicks and Demeco are stubborn, compounded by delusions of grandeur. They cannot fathom a world where they have to lean in on the QB and WR room they’ve developed and traded up for. We drafted Klein but for some reason, they’re gatekeeping??

But above all…the penalties. Save for a few outlier weeks, this team simply isn’t coached to play disciplined football. Two of the top 6 penalized players wear the Htown blue.

So yeah, bye week or not, this team isn’t going to improve.

Any success moving forward is just going to feed this staffs delusions l

mEMe Xavier Hutchinson is Demeco Ryans Long Lost Son?!?

I’ve spent the last 48 hours trying to wrap my mind around why in the world, in a week that you have the likes of Nico Collins, Marvin Harrison Jr., Tank Dell, and Keyshawn Boutte available-that Xavier Hutchinson was tied for the most targets (tied with Dalton Shultz mind you-none of the other listed WR). What’s more? In a game with your back against the wall down 7 with less than 2 minutes remaining, he is the only WR on the field and you draw up a trick play…AROUND HIM. I legitimately cannot comprehend this. My mind will not rationalize it. Until I realized, Xavier Hutchinson must be Demeco’s long lost son. Nothing else makes sense, it is blatant football malpractice. XH has grown his hair out and gotten a beard to disguise his relation to our HC, but I see right through it.

In all seriousness what in the world are we thinking I’m reaching a point of no return.

Theories about what went wrong with our defense

Maybe it’s just me not being a real ball knower, but the falloff is so hard to grasp. It would be one thing to go from awesome to mid, but this is much worse.

We have the same coaching staff, almost the same roster. Was it really the couple of injuries we had at LB? Are we being outcoached? Is our scheme too simple or inefficient? Was this overconfidence? Lack of discipline? All of the above?

I’d like to hear everyone’s theories, regardless if they are your own or you heard them anywhere else.

On the game tying TD, Stroud knew instantly he had to get the fuck outta there. No wonder he felt a little off/rushed all afternoon. This OL just gets lazy as hell especially as the game is winding down. Bills game being the perfect example. At least this time, CJ made shit happen.

Anyone else notice Chargers/Staley similarity?

Was talking to a few friends and it dawned on me the similarities to the Chargers a few years back with Staley - albeit with Demeco and the Texans having far greater "success" but the similarities are still there. Think the main difference is the Texans getting favors for playing in the AFCs vs the AFCw.

-both had rookie QBs (Herbert & Stroud) who showed early flashes on being the "next big thing"

-had early successes in the first few years (Staley should have made the playoffs in year one if it weren't for the stupid TO in OT vs the raiders)

-both coaches billed as defensive gurus and it showed early. Only for it to completely crumble after 3/4 years.

I live out of market so I will say I dont see every play. But when I do watch the defense play they seem lost out. Especially in the secondary- which was arguably our biggest strength last year.

Do think DeMeco gets a 2nd chance given his legacy with the team and the better success in his first three years, but this regression this season but more so year over year where the team has declined each year since Strouds rookie year is so concerning.

🤬 Rant/Complaint Question for Texans Fanbase?

Post image
34 Upvotes

After yesterday's game and our record dropping to 2-5, the fanbase seems completely divided—or at least that's how it feels. Some fans want C.J. out of here, others want DeMeco fired, and some are pointing fingers at the OC or the GM. Meanwhile, a few even want to tear everything down and start fresh. In which of these scenarios would you, as a fan, be the most unhappy?

A. C.J. gets a big extension
B. C.J. wants out
C. Caley gets fired
D. Caley stays
E. DeMeco gets an extension
F. DeMeco gets fired
G. Caserio stays
H. Caserio gets fired

🤬 Rant/Complaint 2026 Draft

Post image
1 Upvotes

The Texans would’ve drafted better using the ESPN big board then using caserio’s bad biased scouting. We lost valuable capital in moving up 2 spots for Rutledge.

Lomu is already proving to be an above-average lineman in New England. We still could have made the Kayden McDonald trade as that required trading pick 91. Anthony Hill over Klein was an obvious choice. Pregnon was rated higher than Rutledge and could have been had at pick 69 easily since he fell to the late 3rd round.

There is no excuse for this and wasting the final year of Will and CJ’s rookie deals. Caserio needs to be fired.

Open field for MHJ if CJ had a split second longer to hit his target. 32 year old journeyman DJ Reader isn't even known to be a quick DL. I've never seen a player actually get a 0.0 pass block grade before either lmao. People talking about drop rates when this is the bullshit oline pulls every game.. please be real.
