Workplace Story ACOTAR book release...

Keeping the store open until 1am, paying several staff for it, and being fully prepared with 100 tickets...

To sell 5 books. All the people were there before 10pm. Absolutely everyone could've gone home almost 3 hours early, lol.

An estimated 3-5 more people came in for regular shopping.

Yep, sounds totally worth it to me!! I'm just so entertained by this.

Vent my SD threatened to write me up over a metric that I no longer own. I’m 🤏 this close to quitting.

Apologies for how long this maybe be. For context, I’m a style TL in an extremely high volume store. In fact, I am the ONLY specialty leader in the store because our other one quit with no notice and then our third one quit shortly after. (just in time for Q4! awesome!) I am literally DROWNING. Style breakout is stacked 10 feet high with palettes upon palettes of repacks, not to mention the 7 palettes of case packs. I had to complete 32 domestics end caps last week from the domestics transition, TONS of my style POGS have been unable to get done because my workload is just through the roof now, etc. My HR ETL’s only seasonal hires have been for fulfillment and front end as if I don’t tell her everyday that I need her to hire seasonal help for style lol.

3 months ago, it was announced that style no longer owns price change and it was given to GM. Previously, when we did own price change, it would be me and my ETL rushing around trying to make sure it got done because my SD refused to let my ETL designate a TM for price change (she didn’t wanna spend an extra 40 hours a week on a new TM just for price change lol) so instead, she’d dump the responsibility on me to make sure I did it and completed it by EOD Friday every week. After it was announced that it was no longer my problem, my ETL and I literally celebrated how much we were gonna be able to get done now since we wouldn’t have to dedicate our entire week to price change. It was made very clear that style has no responsibility to do any price changes (even the style ones, unless they needed support from call outs, etc) our GM team leads were told that it is now their responsibility to find a designated person to complete style price change every week. Of course, they never did. GM doesn’t give a fuck about it and continues to act as if it’s my responsibility to get it done every week and my SD does nothing about it.

I spoke to her about it multiple times, reminding her that my department is quite literally on fire and that price change is no longer styles responsibility. My ETL backs me up on this constantly because she is also just as confused, irritated, and overwhelmed as I am. The GM TL’s at my store don’t have NEARLY as much workload as I do and they sure as hell have a way bigger team than I do who they could easily delegate the task to. Because of this, price change has gone overdue for the last 3 weeks because I don’t have time to do it and the people on my team have limited availability which doesn’t allow them to complete a large percentage of price change every day. Not to mention, my ETL always tells me to prioritize literally everything else BEFORE price change (because once again, my department is on fire and i’m only one fucking person.) My SD comes up to me today and tells me that if price change goes overdue one more time, she’s writing me up. LOL okay. So now once again, I’m forced to ditch my department and let the shit-storm continue to pile while all of MY priorities get put on the back burner so I can complete 2,800+ price changes by Friday. I fucking hate my store and my SD, she has no idea how to run a fucking store and I might be the next leader to walk the fuck out and never come back. If you stayed to read all of this BS, thanks for listening. Felt good to get off my chest 🫠

Workplace Story A guest informed me that my OPU batch wasn't for "real customers"

Had an interaction today that I genuinely don't know how to process.

I was picking an OPU with about 9 minutes left on the timer when a guest stopped me looking for a specific storage bin. No problem. Looked it up on my Zebra, told her which aisle it should be in.

She wanted me to go check the back because apparently she'd already looked there. I told her I could call someone from GM to help since I needed to finish my pickup order.

She looks at my cart and goes, "Why can't you just check?"

Me: "I'm on a timed order right now."

Her: "But those customers aren't even here."

I thought I'd misunderstood her.

Me: "They're still customers. They ordered this stuff for pickup."

Her: "Well, I'm actually standing here."

I genuinely had nothing to say to that.

Called GM, let her know someone was coming to help, and went back to my batch. Finished with 38 seconds left.

I don't mind helping guests. I stop to help people all day. But I had never considered that some people look at fulfillment TMs and apparently think we're just doing a little scavenger hunt for imaginary customers.

Ma'am, I am not pushing this three-tier around the store for the cardio.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed I just completed my second shift and idk what to do :/

• Upvotes

Hello everyone, I recently got hired as a style consultant. I originally wanted guest services, but I applied for every available job listing and they put me there. I had high hopes during orientation and was genuinely excited. My very first shift was an overnight 10-6 where I was in the back doing breakdowns and cutting up boxes, with the occasional stocking the shelf and racks. It was genuinely insane back there and I see why style needed the extra help. That's not even the issue, I think the people I work with overnight may be toxic. I had my second shift tonight and I desperately want to swap departments. I may be overly sensitive and dramatic because I worked two back to back night shifts with no sleep in between. Today my coworkers were gossiping about someone in a different department and made transphobic comments and laughed and I felt so weird/uncomfortable because unbeknownst to them I'm actually under that umbrella. They play gross explicit music the whole 8 hours. I asked for help stocking the shelves because there was no more room and I didn't know what to do with the remaining clothes and was ignored while my TL and coworkers laughed and giggled the whole time. I asked someone else and was told "I don't know." It was my second shift and I was made to feel dumb because I didn't know I was supposed to backstock what couldn't fit, despite me asking for 20 minutes what they wanted me to do. A coworker asked me to help her backstock her pallet of clothing and I agreed, just for her to make me pull everything to the back room and stack all her extra heavy boxes alone once the clock hit 6 AM. The last straw was my TL looking at me crazy when I mentioned I couldn't work another overnight on friday because my ride was going out of town and I didn't have transportation that night. I don't feel safe being in Ubers at night alone as a single female. My back hurts, my feet hurt, but the pay is decent and I'm still hoping things can get better, but I'm not sure what to do. Sorry for how long this is LOL.

What did you do to stand out to be kept? I’m about a month in and feel like I’m not doing enough to be kept after the season is over.

Vent I hated my manager while I worked at Target

Title says it all o hated my manager, when I got hired he was the front end manager which was fine but he always made it clear he played favorites and wanted to go up the ranks as fast as possible. Within a 5 year period he became store manager. I was working part time as a college student when I was home, after graduating I stayed at target until I got a full time job and those last few months of work were the worst. This manager only cared about himself to the point it became impossible to work he made my favorite TL cry and quit he was so rude. He would often understaff the store especially the front end where I worked to make him stay under the hours provided to schedule us. The back and behind customer service was always a mess because we never had anyone to clean it. The only time anything would be cleaned is if a regional manager came in it would be cleaned and magically staffed. As a kind of middle finger I have about 50 hours of Sick Time Off saved over the years since I rarely called out and used every single minute of it and on my last day which he knew it was would barely acknowledge me.
I just had to rant to people that would understand as it’s now been a year since I quit.

I don’t know if anyone else sees what I see but this isn’t very “on brand” to me. However considering the things Target has gotten called out for I wouldn’t be surprised if they also recognized that this could be interpreted wrong and still thought it was a good idea. But it’s probably just the white person in me who thinks it’s weird that they thought the location was acceptable… 😬

Workplace Question or Advice Needed After I've scanned an item into a fulfillment order, is there any way to double check that it's the right item?

I scanned a pair of socks for a Fulfillment order but had three different sizes of the same item in my hand when I scanned it and can't remember which one I scanned. Is there any way to rescan the item or to see the # for the item after I've scanned it?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed My left foot is killing me.

I just started fulfillment, and on my second day, my left foot is causing me to limp with pain every step I take. The pain is located around the navicular bone, like a spot on my right side of my left foot. I don’t know what to do at this point. I can’t just keep limping all the time, and I’m worried this’ll eventually go from inconvenience to problematic. I genuinely need solutions, what shoes? How do I deal with something that starts experiencing pain the moment I walk or apply weight to it? And I need solutions that aren’t expensive. Sorry, but I just can’t afford a 150$ ACICS shoes, I something that I can actually afford without taking over a 100$ to spend. Please help.

Workplace Question or Advice Needed Highest possible units packed per hour?

What’s the highest stat that’s possible for units packed per hour? There’s someone at my store that always has 600-800+ units packed per hour, no one seems to ever come close to matching it. How is it possible to pack that fast?

Workplace Question or Advice Needed How does switching departments work?

I was originally hired on for fulfillment but I have picked up a few shifts in service and engagement and I loved it. The service and engagement team leader loves me and said he would love for me to switch over. I've gotten many compliments from customers while working as a cashier especially on my first day and I got a shout out today from the store director. The service and engagement TL and the fulfillment TL said they would talk to the store director and their departments ETLs. How does switching departments work? What should I expect?

This guest is a regular and always, ALWAYS order in bulk groceries on top of double tapping her order. The kicker? She pulls up in her truck. No biggie, maybe we can put all her stuff in the bed right? NO! She wants everything in her cramped ass backseat.

Vent Not allowed to clean fixtures during pog revisions/transitions

I’m working on our travel sized items revision and noticed the base decks were beyond disgusting. Sadly, I already knew my TL would not want me to waste time cleaning it, but I still complained about it. Sure enough I was turned down. Our stores attitude has always been work fast and skip steps to keep up with workload. Which I get to a point, because every year target gives us less hours and higher expectations. But this is another level. I can’t believe we’re okay with leaving our shelves like this. I typically take it upon myself to clean and be tidy during moments that would have been discouraged because I can’t help myself, but obviously cleaning off these base decks would take up a decent chunk of time. I just wish we were encouraged to make our store as presentable as we can.

Update: got my SD to take a look, we’re cracking down on it 😭🙏

Future or Potential Employee Question Just got hired

I just got hired for a seasonal fulfillment expert position at target and I honestly just want to take any advice that you guys would have for me. My work experience is working at raising canes, boba shop and mainly in the food industry. I just want to gain at least enough knowledge to help me out as I start working so I would appreciate any tips or advice that you guys have for me with my position. I heard that fulfillment is arguably one of the hardest positions to work at target. Is that true?
