Complaint (open to advice) Dismissed from program

I’m absolutely devastated. My BSN program requires us to pass the readiness VATI with a 92% pop NCLEX in order to sit for the exit exam. I took it last week and missed by .2% (half a question) and retook it and missed again by .5%. I have never failed an exam or CMA. I have a 3.8 GPA and was supposed to graduate this Friday. I’m not sure how I ended up in the situation I studied an insane amount and feel so confident in my abilities.

They told me I’m dismissed from the program and there’s no guarantee when they can get me back in as the cohorts behind us are full. They’re being quite cold about it.

I’m absolutely heart broken.

Discussion You really have to adapt to fit in it’s insane

Edit: Y’all I swear I’m nice LOL
I just removed what I said because people are making all sorts of assumptions I’m too tired to argue against

Basically, nurses can be unnecessarily mean. I don’t like it, I find it an issue when people are ostracized for confronting them about it. That’s it.

peer / social issues (advice wanted) Pregnant during ABSN program.

Hi guys, just need some input. I am due in June, graduation is in August 2027. My husband and I decided to try for a baby thinking it’d take a while, and i am here now making this post lol. I’m hoping to see it through and graduate. My due date would be during our small summer break and then we would have 4 weeks of clinicals 3x12s every week. I’m honestly just looking for input on how to manage it and get through since it’ll be 1 month!! I’d have my husband, my MIL and FIL, and my mother will come and help.

And if you guys have any stories of anyone you know that has gone through this and mananged to get through, please share.

Thank you!!

Discussion Additional major or no?

Basically at my school and additional major for Spanish is somewhat easy to obtain (3 more classes) and I already speak Spanish fluently. I want to pursue it, but the classes sort of interfere with my nursing schedule so I would have to go to campus an extra day of the week or see if they offer something during the summer semester. The other thing is I receive refunds every semester but my advisor let me know that I probably would have a much smaller refund or none with the additional credits. Is it something worth pursuing or just focus on nursing courses?

Discussion Nurses around the world, what are the exams required to become a nurse?

Hello, I don't know at all if I asked the question in the right sub, if not, let me know. Let's move on to the subject, I am a nursing student (from France) in first year and I feel like I was curious one day because one day I was curious about the prerequisites or the years of study to be a nurse and honestly I was shocked and very surprised how our evaluations in France are very different in the United States / Russia or South Korea / Japan etc.. I have the impression that on our side it is "easy": We have internships after two months of training, you have to have more than the grade of 10/20 to succeed in the subject and you have the right to catch up. We have professional internships in many services that we have to validate and at the end of the three years of study we have to write a dissertation (and have validated enough credit) to graduate. As a Frenchwoman, I find it crazy and shocking that in the United States, if you have a bad grade, even if you have a very small gap. So to be able to compare I would like to know what exams you need to do and the study time to be a nurse (all countries are welcome I want to know) thank you very much!

Complaint (open to advice) Randomly humbling exam - coping?

Not sure if this even the right flair, but this is a bit of a vent.

I know in the grand scheme of things, what you got on exam 2 in x class doesn’t really matter.

But in the moment, I feel like an empty caprisun.

Drained, because I’d stayed up late and woke up early to review some more for the exam date.

Even during the ordeal, I’d felt so confident in my answers since I had a good grasp on the concepts to be tested on, that I only had one troubling question.

Then, grades were posted. I’d passed, but had scored lower than I’d initially believed.

I try to rationalize with myself, “it was 30 questions.” “They had multiple parts to it.”

I also feel bummed since others around me cheerfully shared their experiences.

I know I also shouldn’t compare myself with others and I’m being dramatic, but man does it sting.

I later stopped by ross and bought ice cream afterwards just to feel better because #self-care

I guess for advice, how can I stop being so hard on myself academically?

Discussion Looking for advice from ADHD nurses as I am really lost and stuck at the moment

Hi everyone! It’s been my dream to be a nurse since freshman year of high school. College hit me like a truck though, and I struggled majorly in my first few science pre requisites. It was impossible for me to retain or understand information/ pay attention and my brain fog was absolutely horrible. This led me to get a psychiatric evaluation and I was immediately diagnosed with adhd and put on stimulants. These have helped MAJORLY and I started doing so much better in school! I had gotten a C in chem and a C in anatomy & physio, but was able to finish micro with an A since that was the only class I was on meds for. My grades are still not good though and I know I’m nowhere near competitive enough to get a spot in a cc nursing program (California, not looking to relocate) and my school only allows one science retake. Should I just go private? Any other routes I should know of??? Any other ADHD nurses have similar experiences and advice?

Prenursing Prep Course Recommendations for Pathophysiology and Pharmacology I?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a prep course to help me build a strong foundation in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology I before starting nursing school.

I came across Archer Review’s Introductory Nursing Courses and was wondering if anyone has used them or would recommend them for preparing for these classes.

I’d love to hear about any video-based courses, resources, or study programs that helped you feel more prepared. Thank you!

Complaint (open to advice) Scared for clinicals

So, I'm a 3rd-semester nursing student, and next semester I'm supposed to start my first clinical rotations on medsurg. My school started doing interdisciplinary sim labs in my first semester, so I've been going to them to get an idea of what I'll be doing once I start clinicals, especially since I don't have any experience with patient interaction yet. During the most recent sim, my group told me they wanted me to be the lead nurse for one of the cases we were meant to work on. I completely fumbled it. I had no idea what I was doing; I was too quiet, the senior nurse had to prompt half of my questions, and I was trembling basically the entire time. This was also meant to simulate a sudden cardiac arrest situation. Not great. I managed to pull myself together by the time I started CPR with the senior nurse, but I am very short and couldn't reach the patient to give adequate CPR, and I didn't know I was allowed to stand on the bed with the patient to perform it.

The whole experience has had me worried that I might not be able to handle a career in nursing. Technically, I know that I lack any sort of experience, and I wasn't expected to be anywhere close to perfect, but it's still worrying and has been gnawing at me since. Has anyone else had similar first-time experiences? How well am I expected to have this down by the time I enter my first real clinical experience?

Complaint (open to advice) Feeling very discouraged

Hi All, I am a q4 student, with one year left. So far I am so discouraged as my health has been very bad and I was out the first week with illness and missed a lab. I was in the hospital after trying to attend and not get an occurrence. If i miss one more the entire year I am failed. I just feel like this is impossible for people who have health issues/ life outside of nursing (jobs, family etc). If anyone has advice please let me know. I am finding myself extremely stressed and anxious due to the policies rather than the coursework

Prenursing Intro to Orgo and Biochem Prereq

I’m starting nursing school prereqs soon, and one of the required courses is "Fundamentals of Organic and Biochemistry." It’s a survey course just for nursing school candidates, and is meant to "complete the study of chemistry" following Gen Chem 1.

I aced Gen Chem 1 ten years ago as an engineering major, but because I never had to take anything like orgo or biochem, I’m feeling pretty intimidated. I heard how difficult they were from other students.

Has anyone taken a similar survey course? Any tips for studying orgo and biochem, and should I refresh my Gen Chem 1 beforehand?

Discussion Anyone working full time while in school?

I feel as if I probably made a bad decision.

I’m currently an LPN working full time. I start my PN-RN bridge program next summer. I’m moving into my own apartment this week, and I’m super excited. I’m almost 30 years old, I need my own privacy and I also want to experience living on my own before I move to Cali to be with my fiancé (he’s military). I'm terrified that I made a wrong decision because I don’t know if I would be able to handle working 32 hours a week while in school. This program is two days during the week. Nothing on the weekends. I was thinking about working Fri- Sat- double shift on Sundays. Is this doable?

My lease will be up next October so in the worst-case scenario, I’ll move back in with my mom.

Classes / Lectures Any advice?

I was recently kicked out of my nursing program because I failed Fundamentals by 1%. Now I don’t know what to do and feel lost since they told me that I’ll have a D on my transcript . I do however have a Bachelor’s degree and I’m not sure whether I should become an LVN first and later become an RN.

Complaint (open to advice) Could I be in this field?

Hi Im a 23 y/o male who would like to pursue nursing but the only thing limiting my possible chance is my eye vision. Currently my eye glasses are -19 diopters on both lenses and when I was born I was diagnosed with ROP & I have strabismus & nystagmus. Im severely nearsighted/ severe myopia but I really would like to try to become a nurse the thing is I think some programs require 20/20 vision or even practicing nursing you need 20/20. Any thoughts? I asked a nursing professor her opinion and she said Gi for it dont give up I will have challenges but don’t give up but I’m still weary.

homework / studying help needed Essay writing

How do people make their essays look good and academically structured, cuz I’ve tried and I either just pass or fail the essay. I have dyslexia so writing essays are a nightmare. I’m able to get the required information needed but then making it look good is harddddd, we have disability support but they’re pretty useless.

If anyone has any tips pleaseeeeee help me and please don’t be a rude

Work Quitting Nurse Tech Job

Hi I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this but I am a nursing student and I am working as a PRN nurse tech 2-3 shifts a scheduling period. This is my first ever hospital job so I am unsure of the procedure for quitting. Is it a normal 2 week notice? Should I speak directly with the manager on my floor?

I appreciate all feedback back on this. I don’t want to burn any bridges with this place so I want to do this as professionally as possible.

Thank you!

Admissions / transferring Accepted but will my dismissed misdemeanor cause delays in obtaining my Blue Card (TX)

Hi I was recently accepted into nursing school (yay!) however I do have a dismissed misdemeanor from when I was in high school on my record -failure to perform duties of a driver (property damage), I accidentally hit a small pole at my state airport when backing up and didn't call anyone about it (I didn't know I had done it, I was a brand new driver). We have until Dec 31st to submit our blue cards I'm just wondering if this is going to delay me significantly :(

I was never arrested for this, never did fingerprints or anything. I just had a court case and I settled with the airport and paid for the damage and the case was dismissed.

New Grad Which ICU should I pick?

Hello! I am a hopeful future CRNA just graduating nursing school. Like I said, hopeful... I have offers for two different ICUs as a new grad. I'm wondering which one might be better to gain experience for a strong CRNA application. 1. Neuro ICU in a comprehensive stroke center or 2. Med-Surg ICU. Same major hospital. I am leaning towards Med-Surg ICU because I will see a little bit of everything. Please let me know what you think, I am stressing out having to choose!

Discussion Don't know what to do

I am on the fence of dropping out of nursing school. Nothing is wrong with my grades, no disciplinary issues, no lack of interest in it. I have severe back pain from a prior condition and I need surgery. It causes me to stay up at night in pain and on top of recently moving into our new home, I am barely sleeping. Clinicals start this week and I already spoke to my teachers who sent me a form to sign if I am serious about dropping out. I almost want to cry because I really do find nursing interesting and I want to help people. I put a lot of time and effort into this as you all know. I don't want to regret my decision. I am 27 with 2 children. I am not old but I need to stick to something. So this is just very emotional for me right now

UK/Ireland Difference between HCA and RN

Newly in school for nursing, first year. I always thought RN did showers for patients and all the nitty gritty stuff on top of the rest. But since reading other threads it seems that HCAS does it. I am wondering what way it works or if everyone kind of just gives a hand.

Discussion Has anyone taken Anatomy & Physiology while enrolled in an LPN program?

I’m starting an LPN program in January and considering taking BIO 168 alongside NUR 101, which would put me at 15 credits. I already completed BIO 163 with an A, but I want to finish BIO 168 and 169 before graduating so I can transition into an LPN-to-RN bridge program sooner.
My nursing director advised against it because of the workload, but I feel like I could handle it. Has anyone taken A&P while in LPN school? Was it manageable, or would you recommend waiting?

Classes / Lectures Anyone else’s program use AI to grade?

I’m in the 2nd cohort of a new nursing program at a cc. The head of the nursing department is using AI to grade our clinical journals, research paper drafts, and pretty much anything else they can get AI to do. Imagine they would be pulling exams from AI if we weren’t using Sherpath.

This is effed up. Thoughts? Experiences?
