Semi Truck on Germantown this afternoon

Post image
67 Upvotes

My wife was two cars behind a semi truck with trailer that went down Germantown road this afternoon, which is illegal. She saw it sideswipe at least one car and cause at least one other accident, and it never stopped. The photo is a pic they took of the truck's license plate after it got onto the st Johns bridge, she also got a multiple minute video of it driving on Germantown.

If it hit you or caused you to get in an accident, shoot me a PM. She'd be happy to give a statement to your insurance and/or share the video she took with you.

She's also reported it to police non-emergency, the trucking company (Legend), as well as the FMCSA complaint line (you should too): https://complaint.fmcsa.dot.gov

💩 A Post About The Homeless? Shocker 💩 To the Chipotle employee who refused to hand out the bathroom code

There was a houseless man lurking around the cashier. When an employee approached he asked for the bathroom code. The employee refused and an argument ensued. I just want to say that you are a hero for standing your ground and not giving that man the bathroom code.

I know that I would be conflicted: compassion vs rules. I think that employee has made the right choice.

kinda sad title 😅 just dont have any friends yet in portland and havent had any luck with my hobbies or the places I frequent but I still want to have fun on Halloween. any bars or events that I should go to? particularly if you think the people are welcoming and friendly instead of a “I only talk to the people I came here with” vibe. 💀 Doom Postin' 💀 Royal Sonesta Hotel Sale

Post image
26 Upvotes

Portland’s Royal Sonesta: bought for $108.3M in 2016. Now reportedly sold for $6.83M for 220 rooms—just $31,000 per key. A staggering 93.7% price collapse.

This is what happens when government fails at public safety, downtown disorder spirals, Measure 110’s consequences go unaddressed, and Multnomah County’s mental-health system fails people in crisis.

Tourism doesn’t thrive where visitors feel unsafe and downtown businesses struggle to survive.

Portland didn’t get here by accident. Policy choices have consequences—and taxpayers, workers, businesses, and property owners are paying the price.

Resilient NE PDX (Neighborhood Community)

Many people want more friends and community, but these days it helps to be proactive. That's the goal of Resilient NE PDX:  to discover if people living in the six neighborhoods surrounding the Alberta Arts District can enhance their social and practical resilience by making new, meaningful, nearby connections.

If you live in Vernon, Woodlawn, Concordia, Alameda, Sabin, or King, you can learn more and join our mailing list at https://resilientnepdx.org/

As a recent transplant, it was nice to see people out and about despite the rain, but I can’t believe this many people thought this was a good idea. 🤦‍♂️

Self Promotion Halloween weekend around Portland: a few ideas, from haunted houses to neighborhood events

A few options for October 30–November 1:

• ScareGrounds at Oaks Park for haunted houses.

• Woodstock Spooktacular on Saturday for neighborhood trick-or-treating.

• Spirit of Halloweentown in St. Helens if you’re up for a short road trip.

We run FunPDX and put together a longer list here: https://www.funpdx.com/portland-halloween-events. Check organizers for current hours, admission and age details before heading out.

What local Halloween events are you looking forward to?

I built this pirate ship for Halloween and think I'll keep it around to rent out. What would you pay to rent something like this? I also have several animatronics that could go along as "extras".

It is towable and I drove it around the neighborhood with friends and neighbors, which everyone loved.

How many times do we come of age in a lifetime? After reading this memoir, seems like the answer is definitely more than once.

I see that Powells is bringing in author Jamie Lorente to read from her new “coming of middle age” memoir My Three Fathers on the 29th

Really interesting read, especially if you grew up in the Pacific Northwest, as the story bounces from Seattle to Eugene to Portland as she searches to establish a solid connection with the Cuban exile biological father she never really knew growing up.

Some of the descriptions of her younger years have a kind of “wild child” vibe at work. One particularly intense passage describes the moment when as a teen she finds herself stranded and in need of a ride, and unwittingly finds herself getting into the truck of a strange man who turns out to be Green River Killer, who trolled the Pacific Northwest in the 80s and 90s.

Transportation Accident on 12th & Irving

Startling to see, hoping for an update - specifically the person on the stretcher (they may have been on the scooter?)

I hope everyone involved is okay and heals quickly.

If that was you on the stretcher, I’m sorry you’re having such a bad day and I would love to bring you some soup or comfort items.

🐩 Pets of Portland 🐈 Cat for adoption

This sweet boy was dumped in the forest out near St Helen's. I estimate him to be a few years old and he's sweet, cuddly, can be picked up and isn't afraid of other cats or dogs. I have him in my garage for now, since I haven't brought him to the vet yet, but he's been hanging out on my lap, in a bed, purring his heart out. I'm fostering him on the fly, because there's currently no shelter space. The people who trapped him in the forest just dropped him off to me this morning. Please DM me if you've been in the market for a lovely cuddle bug. I'm an experienced foster/vet tech, so rehoming process will apply to any potential fosters or adopters.
