Any recommendations for a lightweight primer?

I prefer a more natural, lightweight base rather than wearing a lot of makeup, so I’m looking for a primer that feels comfortable on the skin.

I’m not a fan of anything too thick or overly matte. Something hydrating that helps my makeup sit nicely without feeling like I have too many layers would be ideal.

What are your go-to primers for everyday wear?

Rosemary Hair Oil Options?

Hi all, I have PMOS and am on a hair loss journey. Before I go further, yes I’m practicing lifestyle modifications and using minoxidil, ketoconazole shampoo, and a rosemary shampoo. After 3 months, I have started to see benefits from these methods. I do want to add one more thing to my routine however, and that’s a nightly rosemary scalp treatment/oil. The thing is, I really don’t want it to be an oil consistency because my hair is extremely fine and oil does not bode well with it. I’m looking for either a great product for a weightless rosemary treatment, or a recipe that I can make when buying 100% rosemary essential oil. I’d be soooo grateful for any wisdom. Thank you in advance!

Any vegan skincare brands that are actually certified?

I'm trying to find brands where the certifications are real and easy to check. Beauty has so much greenwashing and I've fallen for it before, so now I'm a little skeptical when a brand makes big claims. I found Typology, which is B Corp and PETA-certified vegan, and Cocokind, which is B Corp too. Haven't tried either. Typology only ships from its own site, which is a little annoying. Who else should I look into?

My skin has been through it lately.

Between washing my hands constantly at work and then doing dishes or yard work when I get home, the skin around my knuckles and cuticles is cracked and rough. I tried layering on plain petroleum jelly at night but it just feels greasy and never really sinks in. I've heard people use things like tallow balm or whipped shea with a bit of beeswax, but I have no idea if those hold up when your hands are constantly in water. Does anyone have a simple salve or oil blend that actually protects without needing to reapply every hour? Curious what ingredients have held up for others who wash their hands a ton.

Is it possible to naturally gain freckles?

About 1, 2 years ago freckles randomly appeared on the sides of my face, however not the most. I really like freckles and want more. I’ve tried tanning but it never makes me gain more. Is there any way to get them naturally? No makeup, henna, tattooing, and what not.

Is it too late to try an LED mask in your 50s?

Never paid attention to masks with LED until a few days ago when I was having coffee with some friends we got into a whole conversation about skin care and two of them were talkin about how good these masks are for wrinkles and one even called it magic for your face...

I'm wondering I should give one a try too but not sure what to expect or if they even make much difference

Oil > Lotion

I’ve never liked the feeling of lotion on my body, so I’ve never been great about moisturizing. Now that I’m getting into my 30s and postpartum, my skin needs something. I tried the Shea Moisture body oil and really like how it feels. However, the smell is starting to bother me. I’m halfway through the bottle and didn’t mind it at first, but it really lingers on all of my clothes and bedding.

Does anyone have recommendations on a body oil that has clean ingredients and not a strong scent? Open to lotions that quickly absorb into the skin as well!

Why some natural deodorants cause redness or a rash (and what to look for instead)

I see a lot of questions about natural deodorants causing irritation, so I wanted to share what's usually going on, from a pharmacist and formulator's point of view.

The most common culprit is baking soda (sodium bicarbonate). It's great at neutralising odour, but it's alkaline (pH around 8–9), and underarm skin already runs at a higher pH than the rest of our skin (around 6–6.5), so pushing it even higher disrupts the skin barrier and microbiome... Applied daily on thin, often freshly shaved skin, it can disrupt the skin barrier and cause redness, itching, darkening or a rash. Many people tolerate it fine at first, then react after a few weeks.

Other possible triggers:

- Essential oils and fragrance (a common cause of contact allergy)

- Applying right after shaving, when the skin is micro-damaged

- Rubbing too hard with a stick formula

What can help:

- Try a baking soda-free formula. Common alternatives are magnesium hydroxide, zinc ricinoleate or mandelic acid

- Choose fragrance-free if you've reacted before

- Wait a few hours (or apply at night) after shaving

- Patch test a new product on your inner arm for a few days

If the rash doesn't settle after stopping the product, or it's very itchy, painful or spreading, please see a doctor or dermatologist, as it can also be an infection or another skin condition.

Happy to answer questions in the comments!

Launching a skincare or haircare brand? 6 formula mistakes I see all the time (from a cosmetic formulator)

I'm a pharmacist and cosmetic formulator, and I've been running my own skincare brand since 2018. Lately I've been helping small brands fix their products, and the same mistakes keep coming up. If you're about to launch, check these first:

  1. No stability testing A product that looks perfect on day 1 can separate, change colour or smell different after a month. At minimum, keep samples at room temperature and in a warm place (around 40–45°C) for 4–8 weeks before launch.

  2. Wrong preservative for the pH Many natural preservatives only work within a narrow pH range. If your pH is outside it, your product can grow mould even though it "contains a preservative."

  3. Too many actives in one product Adding 10 trendy ingredients doesn't make a better product. Some don't work together, some destabilise the formula, and it drives your cost up.

  4. Claims that make your product a drug Words like "cures," "treats," "heals" or "stops hair loss" can classify your product as a drug in the US and EU. "Helps reduce the look of" is a very different claim legally.

  5. No real batch records If you can't reproduce the exact same batch every time (weights, temperatures, mixing times), you'll get complaints about texture changing between orders.

  6. Copying a formula from the internet without understanding it Online formulas are often missing key steps (cooling, mixing speed, order of addition). That's usually why the result is grainy, thin or separates.

Happy to answer questions in the comments if you're stuck on a product!

Community cosmetische ingrepen

Hi meiden! 😊

Would you buy skincare specifically designed for equestrians?

I’m an equestrian developing a luxury skincare brand inspired by the unique challenges of barn life—sun exposure, sweat, dust, and long days outdoors.
I’m exploring a gentle cleanser, hydrating serum, and moisturizer, and I’d love honest feedback from fellow riders.
Do you feel like existing skincare meets your needs, or is there something you wish brands would do differently?

Looking to try new cleaner makeup and have my cart full on both of these brands websites but haven't pulled the trigger lol. Reviews and quality look pretty amazing on both. Looking for anyone here who has tried either of these brands to see what you thought? Looking for foundation, concealer, bronzer, blush, and mascara. Thanks in advance :)
