Question Why is there almost no Islamic sci fi, horror, or fantasy?

salam alaikum

we have the richest material out there. jinn. the sleepers of the cave waking up in a different age. a night journey through the heavens. and still, almost nothing.

is it money? publishers only want Muslim stories about oppression or leaving the religion.
is it the industry? they will only fund it if the Islam gets watered down first. prayer cut, rules softened, Muslim in name only.
or is it us? anything fictional gets called haram before it even gets a chance, so writers stop trying.

what do you think the real reason is?

Also i ask because i wrote/writing a short book testing the opposite, Islam left fully intact on other planets, called Fatwas for the New Worlds, where a scholar gets appointed the first mufti for the first inhabited planets we explore and live on eventually. we do not have enough Islamic sci fi, horror, any of it really, without Islam getting watered down, so i tried writing it with the Islam left fully intact. Mini book is done which is kinda like an outline of the future series as i want to turn each world/planet into its own series. if anyone wants to read the mini book and give feedback, i have the pdf, happy to share it if mods allow or message me and ill send it your way!

Question Slavery and Women right in Islam

Assalamuallaikum , brothers and sisters.

Me and my wife has been studying / reading Qu'ran, and found such disturbing facts, and would like to ask in my behalf so I can get educated further. I really need it , so I can then teach people in need too, because I have to say, as a Muslim myself, it is making me question if I am reading it right at all. Please do tell me;
- Why can't a woman say "no" to her husband if she doesn't want to go in Intimacy with the husband at the time?
- Why does men need no consent from their slaves for intimacy? What if the female slave is saying no , but the master still wants to ? (I read a verse just now, my bad.)

- Women can't have a word in the matter, when the man wants to marry another spouse.

If more questions will come to mind, I will ask. I want to learn. So please, come to me with trusted Hadiths, Quran verses and Tafsirs that doesnt contradict with Quran itself. Jazakallahu Khairan.

Support/Advice I think my dad is cheating on my mom

So a few years back I was like 8 and found some weird datingish chat apps on my dad's phone and told my mom and he tried gaslighting her into thinking he used it to talk to his friends I remember thinking that they'd get a divorce and it'd be my fault. I don't know what happened after that as I was too young.

I'm 17(f) now. He's in the military so he claims he can't let my mom use his phone because it's for security of info and stuff. But he gets weird if we touch his phones which seems odd.

He was explaining smth on his laptop to me and I saw he had a few websites bookmarked, of adult content. I was appalled as one of them was about flat chested women which really weirded me out because I'm still a teenager.

And since he's in the military he can't really have social media but often when he shows me cat reels on Facebook, the statuses are very provocative and he also has an Instagram which is super weird to me as again on his laptop it showed that he had a few dms.

Today he was on his phone and I saw that on Facebook when you click share and your recent contacts come up, there were a few women. I know he has a thing with adult content idk I know it isn't my business but I feel so disappointed because wdym he's been married for 25 years and still doing this are all men like this?? I don't have enough proof but it's so sad that it's happening behind my mother's back. Especially since my maternal grandfather has been stressing to get remarried, starting three months after my grandmother's death and that's taken a toll on my mom.

This is so disheartening are all men like this and am I bound to the same fate? I want to throw up idk what to do

So I'm sure I have it now, I don't mean to be aggressive, insulting, or anything of that sort, it just happens. I'd really like to tell my story to someone else except Allah and his messengers, but I don't know what kind of help I should get? Allah knowing is enough for me, I just really want to tell my pain to anyone willing to listen, because it makes me feel better when I know I'm not the only one acting like this. Alhamdullilah, astagfirullah.

Support/Advice What actually gets you out of bed for Fajr? Alarms, accountability, routines, something else?

Assalamu alaikum everyone,

Disclosure up front: I’m working on an app to help with waking up for Fajr, so I’m biased and I’m genuinely here to learn.

I keep coming back to the same problem. Most of us have tried a normal alarm, and it works for a few days, then we swipe it off half-asleep and don’t even remember doing it.

So I’m curious what has actually worked for you long term:

  • Sleep timing: a fixed bedtime, an earlier Isha, a wind-down routine?
  • Alarm style: multiple alarms, across-the-room alarms, ones that make you do something to stop them?
  • Accountability: a pet/buddy, friend, a family member, a group chat, a streak?
  • Reasons: what thought or habit gets you up on the mornings you really don’t want to?

And the opposite: what have you tried that failed? Were there any ā€œsolutionsā€ that made it worse?

I’d really like to hear both what worked and what didn’t, including from people who think apps are the wrong approach entirely.

Support/Advice not being able to out-of-state colleges

hi guys, i’m a muslim girl in her senior year who is hoping to leave her state to attend a prestigious/good out-of-state college because the opportunities in my state aren’t as good as those in other states, and i genuinely feel the need to be able to access those opportunities.

i’ve been really frustrated with my parents, and i constantly fight with them over this idea because this is the one exception they absolutely refuse to grant me. my dad is the main reason i’m not allowed to go, as he’s the one who gets angry and firmly refuses to let me leave the state for college. my mom tends to follow whatever he says, so even when i try to reason with her, she doesn’t really stand up for me or support my decision because she ultimately goes along with his wishes. it feels like i have no one in my family who is willing to listen to my perspective or advocate for me.

i find it hard to understand why they’re so persistent about this when i’m a high-achieving student and am confident that i can get good scholarships. when i asked whether they would let me go if i received a full ride or a substantial scholarship that covered the cost, they absolutely said no and didn’t care, so i know it’s not about finances.

nowhere does it say that it’s haram to move out for university, and it’s so unbelievably unfair because i promise i’m a good kid and haven’t done anything that would make them think otherwise. everyone around me gets to go wherever they want and take advantage of those opportunities, while i’m forced to stay here. i even see other muslim girls being allowed to go elsewhere for university.

my cousins back home can go to university elsewhere, but they’re required to have a family member accompany them. however, that isn’t easy for me because my parents and sibling are the only family i have, and they won’t go with me. this is especially frustrating because my parents don’t even have stable employment here, which makes the whole situation feel even more ridiculous.

please tell me what to do. i don’t care what it takes; this is the one thing i cannot bring myself to give up on, and i will do anything to be given the chance to attend a prestigious out-of-state college. i need to build a stable future for myself, and i genuinely feel that my state doesn’t offer me as many opportunities to do that.

Discussion Can you have tawakkul and still be exhausted?

I've been thinking about this lately because sometimes we talk about trusting Allah as though it means we shouldn't feel deeply hurt, disappointed, anxious, or exhausted by what we're going through.

But I'm not sure that's actually what our tradition teaches.

Ya'qub Ų¹Ł„ŁŠŁ‡ السلام was deeply grieved over Yusuf, to the point that the Qur'an describes his eyes becoming white from grief. Yet he said:

Ā«ā€œI only complain of my suffering and my grief to Allah.ā€

(Qur'an 12:86)Ā»

And when the Prophet ļ·ŗ lost his son Ibrahim, he cried and said:

Ā«ā€œThe eyes are shedding tears and the heart is grieved, and we will not say except what pleases our Lord.ā€

(Sahih al-Bukhari 1303)Ā»

That made me think about the difference between feeling something deeply and losing trust in Allah.

Maybe you can be heartbroken and still have tawakkul.

Maybe you can be exhausted and still believe Allah knows what He's doing.

Maybe you can wish something had gone differently without believing Allah was wrong to decree it differently.

Maybe trusting Allah doesn't always look like ā€œI'm completely at peace with this.ā€

Sometimes it might simply look like:

ā€œYa Allah, I don't understand this. I'm tired. I wish things were different. But I'm still bringing it to You.ā€

I'm curious how other Muslims understand this.

Have you ever gone through a season where you genuinely trusted Allah, but were still emotionally exhausted by what you were carrying?

Support/Advice I'm lost and need help.

So for context I am 19 male facing a major decision that is soon and need some Islamic guidance on whether this procedure is considered haram or haram My condition stems from childhood mouth breathing and thumb-sucking up to age 9, leaving me with a severe anterior open bite, a narrow palate, a downward-grown jaw, lip incompetence, a Friedman Stage 4 airway, and Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome (UARS) that severely limits my breathing. My doctors stated this surgery is medically necessary to open my airway and fix my bite, but they also noted it will drastically improve my facial aesthetics. I am struggling with guilt because while I desperately need it to breathe, part of my desire also stems from being genuinely sad and insecure about how these structural deformities made me look and me being judged differently. Since this surgery is primarily correcting functional, painful medical defects that happen to also bring aesthetic balance, is it allowed, and is it fair for me to want this relief?

Question why do a lot of christian preacher's full time job is to talk about islam than Christianity ? šŸ˜‚

Hi, i watch debates and religious talks ex: street dawah, and so on. I see so many christian prechers/scholars or whatever ... there 99% of the video are about islam. like why the hell they focuses solely on islam ? not a single videos on polytheism, idol worship, or anything. its just islam.

NOTE - i already know that there is nothing in bible to prove its a true guidance but just asking. May be a christian here can answer ?

As-salamu alaykum brothers and sisters, I’m typing this with tears in my eyes because my family has reached our absolute breaking point. My father has poured everything into trying to move abroad, but every door keeps closing, and watching my family suffer like this is breaking me. There is nothing Allah cannot do—He owns the earth and every path. Please, I beg you from the bottom of my heart, take just one second to make a sincere dua for Allah to work a miracle and open a way for my father instantly within this year. Please write 'Ameen' for us; your one prayer might be the answer we need. May Allah answer your deepest prayers, too. šŸ„ŗšŸ™

Please. Just pray for me with your whole heart ! 😭

Support/Advice Advice from ladies please

Salaam sisters,

I'm married and very lucky to stay home and have a really amazing marriage alhamdulillah.

The issue is my health, I have endometriosis adenomyosis and a few other conditions that are slowly reducing my life to nothing. I've had surgeries and take more medication than I ever imagined (opiates too which I really despise) - I understand how lucky I am to have treatments etc Subhanallah.

We tried for a family for a year but I miscarried in march and became very sick, I needed three surgeries and was in hospital for a long time. It was a very traumatic time for my husband and I but alhamdulillah it is done now.

We have decided maybe we should not try again for children as drs have said I'm still high risk for miscarriages and complications. And we are both happy to foster/adopt in the future inshallah.

One of my options for my next surgery is to have a total hysterectomy - I'm not taking this decision lightly and my husband will not have any comment on it (he refuses to comment on my body choices from hijab to surgery in anyway so I don't make choices based off his opinions, which I adore).

But I can't help but feel complete terror of waking up realising I will never, ever carry a child. I'm mortified this is even an option I have to consider but it is looking more likely by the month as my pain is just most days now taking morphine/tramadol, if I don't I'm being sick from the pain.

Alongside all of this, the constant guilt of being a awful, sick, useless wife is getting to me, we are only 27 and I feel as though I've ruined his life. He has never complained once, he's showered me, brushed my hair, done more for me than I could ever dream of, even though he's got a really intense job and his masters. I feel so lucky but so heartbroken all at once.

Have any sisters had a hysterectomy and been able to cope afterwards? Or dealt with guilt of health issues whilst married?

The only thing holding me together right now is my faith, alhamdulillah. But it's not easy, I'm scared.

Jazakallah Khair for any advice or helpšŸ’–šŸ’šŸ’–

Support/Advice I’m a Guy in My Late 20s, My Life Is a Mess, and I Don’t Know How to Fix It

I’m a guy in my late 20s, and honestly, I feel like my life is falling apart.

My mental and physical health are both in a bad state from the last many years. I have so many things to work on, but whenever I try to improve one thing, something else goes wrong. If I focus on my physical health, my mental health suffers, and if I focus on my mental health, my physical health gets worse. I feel like I can never be truly healthy and happy at the same time.

I have no proper career, no useful skills, and no idea what I should learn. There is so much to learn that I feel lost and confused about where to start. I also have many insecurities that I want to overcome, but whenever my health gets worse, all my progress stops.

I feel lost, empty, and weak, both mentally and spiritually. I am taking antidepressants and other medicines, but I am still struggling. I have also tried therapy, but most of the advice felt like things I had already read in self-help books.

My relationship with Allah is not what I want it to be. I feel like I am getting further away from my deen. I still believe in Allah, but I struggle with my faith and sometimes fall into sins. I want to become a better Muslim, pray regularly, strengthen my iman, and feel closer to Allah again. But I don't know how to get myself back on track.

Another thing I struggle with is marriage. Deep down, I want to get married because I feel lonely and want someone to share my life with. But at the same time, I am afraid of women and getting hurt. I worry about being lied to, used, or betrayed. I consider myself an innocent person, and I find it hard to trust people. I also have high standards for a future wife, so I don't know how to deal with these fears while still hoping to find someone good. At the same time I am not ready for marriage in any sense.

I am ambitious and want to do something meaningful with my life. I want to become financially stable, improve my health, learn useful skills, become mentally stronger, get closer to Allah, and eventually get married. But right now, I feel stuck and don't know where to begin.

Sometimes I feel like crying when I think about how many things are wrong in my life.

I know that life is a test and that I should have sabr and trust Allah. But I also know that I need to take action and change my life. The problem is that I don't know what to do first or how to keep going when I struggle so much.

I want advice from Muslims who have been through something similar.

- How did you get your life back on track when you were struggling with your health, career, and personal life?

- How did you become closer to Allah after feeling distant from your deen?

- How did you stop feeling lost and start making real progress?

- If you had no career or useful skills in your late 20s, what would you do first?

- How did you deal with loneliness and fear of marriage? How did you learn to trust someone without being blind to the risks?

I am not looking for simple answers like "just have sabr" or "everything will be fine." I want to hear what actually helped you and what steps you took to change your life.

I am tired of feeling stuck, but I genuinely want to improve myself and become a better Muslim and a better person.

If you have been through something similar, please share your experience and tell me what helped you.

JazakAllahu Khairan.

Support/Advice Please make Dua for me; I really want to start praying again.

Asalamualkium,

I haven’t prayed once in the last year. I’m married, and my husband has the same issue. I’ve wanted to start praying again so we can both get back to it. I have the push of wanting to pray so badly; but I can’t. I can’t I don’t know why. I tell myself just do it; one rakaat even. I physically can’t, my mind won’t let me even make Wudu, it’s not prioritizing it enough to externalize it. I don’t want my heart to be covered, I’m scared of losing my deen.

I want to connect with Allah again. I feel so lost. I feel so incredibly lost. I need the push to pray; I’m so severely depressed and I know that I need to reconnect with my creator. I just don’t have the push, Astaghfrillah. I know I’m just a stranger, but I have a request please make Dua for me, because I really want to start praying again, I want the need of prayer that I used to have. Everything around me alhamdulilah is everything I’ve wanted at this point, but we all know that a life without prayer is not a way to live; it’s depressing and nothing can change that but prayer.

Jazakhallah

Support/Advice I’m a hypocrite

Acting all awesome cause I’m so convinced that I’m morally right about everything while I can’t even practice my own beliefs.

I don’t pray at all.
I don’t do it and i don’t know why and whats wrong with me.
I’m wearing the hijab and that’s all I do.

I sometimes watch these videos of Muslims exposing fake ex Muslims and they ask them obvious questions, but I don’t even know the answers to those. I feel like an imposter.

I don’t even know how to pray, I keep using this stupid app and don’t even bother to memorise the smallest thing.

I went to London a year ago and went up to a Muslim stand of guys that were open for questions about Islam. I wondered if they sold any Quran’s, cause didn’t buy anything in London and thought it would be good to have a Quran at home as a Muslim. They looked at me confused and said this stand is for non Muslims interested in Islam. And I didn’t know what to say. I felt like I should be standing there and listening. I felt like the non Muslims going there knew more about Islam than I did. I just said that I converted recently and I don’t have a Quran yet.

I lied. I didn’t convert recently. I converted 4 years ago. They were kind and gave me a Quran and a few posters for Muslim woman and how to wear the hijab right and stuff like that. I said Ty and left.

And now? A year has passed and that Quran is still sealed in plastic wrap. Never opened. Never read. I’m a waste of kindness. I feel like I took away someone’s Quran who could’ve used it. And now it’s just in my room along with my prayer mat collecting dust.

I just feel like everything is too much. I can’t even keep up with school or chores. Not even mentioning cooking. I never cook food anymore, I always make instant noodles, cause it makes me full and doesn’t take too much energy. I’m scared to use my clothes cause I don’t want to wash them. I just rott away at this point.

I miss my mom a lot.

I just want to go back in time and live my life right this time. and now everyone is going to say you can make it right now, I swear I’m trying but I don’t know why I can’t get myself to pray.

My mom had a stroke on Friday and I asked Allah to keep her alive and couldn’t say anything more, cause I felt like such a hypocrite. Like someone who never reaches out until I need help for my selfish self.

Idk man.

Support/Advice Badly need duas

Hello, Assalamu Alaikum, everyone. I know this isn’t a usual post, but as a Muslim, I dearly need my Muslim sisters’ duas. Kindly keep me in your duas.
I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and a lot of hope. I’m going through marital hardship. Kindly pray for my husband and me. I’m asking all of you to kindly pray to Allah — the Most Loving (Ya Wadood), the Turner of Hearts (Ya Muqallib al-Quloob), the Most Merciful (Ya Raheem), the Most Gentle (Ya Lateef), the Answerer of Prayers (Ya Mujib) — to soften my husband’s and in-laws heart for me, fill their heart with sincere love for me, return them to me, and bring us together in peace, kindness, and goodness. Kindly Pray that we may reconcile and reunite with afiyah. May Allah forgive both of us, especially me. May Allah protect our marriage from talaq.
I know the dua of a stranger carries great power, so I humbly ask: if you have a moment, please make a short, sincere dua for me, my husband, and our marriage. May Allah, the Most Generous (Ya Kareem), grant you even more than you ask for me, and bless you with peace, happiness, and all that is good.
