Indianapolis city-county councilors are likely to introduce a proposal about Flock cameras/surveillance technology as soon as Monday. IndyStar Opinion has a poll about whether or not Indianapolis should cancel its contract with Flock and is soliciting letters on the topic of Flock cameras and how Indianapolis should regulate them.

Gas Tax

Just curious since we have had no gas tax for a half a year, and with registration they hit all the Hybrid and Electric cars with an add-on Fee to supposedly cover the gas taxes we are not paying, will I be getting a refund for half that fee? Not to mention it's an obsolete fee anyways as there are ICE vehicles that get similar mpg's, do they get a fee for failing to not waste enough gasoline?

Hey Indiana, Is it just me or is it impossible to hire mechanics in Indiana right now?

I’ve been on Reddit for a while but mostly just reading this is probably my first real post so go easy on me lol

I run a small auto repair shop in Carmel, IN. We’re doing well honestly, got a lot of work coming in, actually adding 3 more lifts right now. But I just can’t find mechanics. Like I’ve been trying for a while Indeed, ZipRecruiter, asked around nothing’s really clicking.

Pay is good, work is steady, we’re not some shady operation lol. I’ll be real we don’t have 401k or health insurance yet, that’s something I’m actively working on. But the work environment is solid and there’s plenty of hours.

If anyone here is a mechanic looking for a shop, or knows someone seriously reach out. Or if you have any tips on where to actually find good techs in Indiana that I might not have tried, I’d appreciate it. Feels like I’ve hit a wall.

Thanks

Vote Baird Out

At the top of my ticket is the race for Indiana’s 4th Congressional District between incumbent Jim Baird (R) and challenger Drew Cox(D) . The more I examine their records and positions, the more questions I believe voters should be asking.

January 6 and election integrity

Following the 2020 election, Jim Baird voted to object to the certified electoral votes from Arizona and Pennsylvania. He subsequently voted against Donald Trump’s second impeachment, an independent January 6 commission, and the House Select Committee investigation.

The war in Iran

Baird has supported President Trump’s military operations against Iran and voted against congressional efforts to require the withdrawal of American forces.

Drew Cox has opposed the war and questioned its objectives.

Campaign financing

As of June 30, 2026, Baird had raised approximately $358,000 for his campaign, including substantial political action committee contributions.

Cox had raised approximately $20,000 and says he does not accept corporate PAC contributions.

This is something I found particularly interesting:

Congressional expense reimbursements

According to a September 30, 2026, Washington Post investigation, Jim Baird claimed more taxpayer funded meals and lodging reimbursements than ANY OTHER MEMBER of the U.S. House in both 2024 and 2025.

TWO YEARS IN A ROW

In 2025 alone, Baird claimed $39,789.

For comparison, fellow Indiana Republican Congressman Rudy Yakym claimed approximately $4,000 during the same year.

Their voting participation rates were remarkably similar:

Jim Baird: 98.3%
Rudy Yakym: 100%

Yet Baird claimed nearly TEN TIMES as much in meals and lodging reimbursements.

For additional context, the average among the 360 House members who participated in the program was approximately $18,600 in 2025. Baird claimed more than TWICE THAT AMOUNT.

Congressional rules permit these reimbursements, and receipts are not required. That right there is total bull but hey, they make their own rules.

These figures do not establish wrongdoing. Voting participation also does not tell us exactly how many days either representative qualified for reimbursement.

Nevertheless, I believe constituents deserve an explanation for such a substantial difference, particularly from an elected official who emphasizes fiscal responsibility.

I encourage everyone to ask questions and make an informed decision on November 3.

Politics Supermajority = Good?

Post image

Sharing for Hoosiers across the state. Apparently the Indiana Republican State Committee would like us to be aware that if they lose the supermajority next week they might be forced to...

Work together! 😱

Fascinating that someone(s) greenlit this flyer thinking it would help convince anyone that a decades long supermajority is in fact a good thing.

Thanks for hubris, now don't wait go vote, today!!!!

Can someone help me understand how someone votes for this guy?

Post image
18 Upvotes

Like these are the only things on his little pamphlet. There’s no actionable statements or clear direction it’s all generalities?

  1. Tax relief how does this help people who need help? By eliminating income tax the top 1% exploiting others will keep more of what they’re exploiting? Lowering income tax will just create a bigger wealth disparity?

  2. Does anyone want data centers? That’s what this is saying without saying it? No regulations? Do you want god knows what it your water? Killing wildlife? Taking up our space for these Mile long buildings? And the bills were gonna pay for the electricity? How does it lower bills?

  3. In what way? For who? From every metric I’ve seen there’s millions of empty homes across all of America. Houses are too expensive for people to live in currently? Building more houses changes none of those already existing problems. It seems to me this is just a way to create more real estate to invest in.

I just don’t understand how you can vote for a guy who promises nothing tangible it’s all so vague?

Politics Wtf is up with this

Just saw a commercial for a Senate race in Florida. It's not the first out of state election commercial that I've seen, it may be the first while I was holding my phone. Why are any political agents spending money in Indiana for a Florida election?

Edit: thanks I did not make the connection to the world series, but with all the Brewers fans on the stands I forgot that a Florida team was playing.

Best non-chain restaurants along I-65 between Bloomington/Indy and Chicago

Several times per year I drive between Bloomington and Chicago, usually on I-65 (although occasionally on US-231 or other parallel routes). Typically I'll stop around the halfway point for fuel, food, etc.

Rather than eating at Subway or McDonalds, what are some good quick places to stop for food that aren't a major chain? Ideally they should not involve a significant detour and offer some kind of counter service instead of sit-down.

Ask a Hoosier 211 Funding Questions

I’m hoping someone who might work with the state has some insight because I’m not seeing any online. My 211 relied funding says it’s been reviewed, approved, and pending payment. Any idea how long until payment actually comes? It’s been a few weeks of actively checking with no changes, and repair costs are mounting. Have other people received any money like this already or will it all disperse at once at a later point in time? Thank you to anyone who has some insight!

Republican cash advantage showing up with late spending in Indiana legislative races.

Interesting where they are spending - the article cites 4 races, and 3 of them seem to be in the same region of the House race (Spartz, challenges by Ford) that Trump was "truthing"/boosting - being discussed as well.

$ coming to

- Chris Jeter (R- Fishers)

- Danny Lopez (R - Carmel)

- Becky Cash (R- Zionsville

Also to Dave Hall in a largely rural district from Brown County to Lawrence County that edges a little into Bloomington.

I'm near the Dave Hall district. In 2024 he had yard signs blanketing the region. This time, at least between Brown and Monroe, just a sprinkling of signs - matched by the number of his opponent.

Any insights?

pro-bono attorney for unlawful termination

I was recently fired from my job, I have texts back and forth with my hr/hiring manager that explains everything. they asked me on my resume if I'm able to lift 50 pounds (witch I can) but this saw mill was going to want me to throw 80-100+ pounds over my head. so I expressed my concerns with HR about that I have a physical disability from a motorcycle wreck in 2020 (this is my first major job sense then) they asked me to bring in a doctor's note so they knew what limitations I had and with in 10 minutes of handing my doctors note I was sent home and fired. because I am 30 year old male they expect me to push the limits to my ability. if I was a female or over the age of 50 I wouldn't have they issues because 90 percent of the jobs are done by that group of people. my buddy worked there for 2 weeks and got me on and he told me it's easy just stacking boards. that's all the information I knew about the job at the time of applying. this is just a short and probably horrible explanation. Im just needing a pro-bono attorney to talking to me and explain my position and my options moving forward. sense I don't have a job I have like no money to pay a attorney
