Make a list if you want to about your favorite guitarists (like top ten or something. Or just your favorite one in general. Doesn't have to be list) I DO NOT KNOW WHERE ELSE TO POST THIS. If you do happen to have somewhere else to recommend me towards. Please tell me. Thanks for reading.

Most of my learning / practice time lately has been less guitar technical skill focused and more improving my understanding of mixing and producing live performance over backing tracks. Ultimately I want to perform in this style, tracked drum, bass, some guitars, I primarily sing and play as much guitar as possible. I’ve managed to record something I don’t absolutely hate :)

I’m working on a strat mod and I’m trying to think of ways to make it weird. Currently thinking about doing no knobs.
Curious to know if anyone else has a weird guitar they’ve built. An ugly duckling if you will. What did you do to it and how does it sound?

Hey, I've been looking around for a while now for guitars, want to get an electric one to learn and later play songs from Sleep Token, Deftones, Type O Neg, Tool, etc.. From multiple sites I've got that the best overall beginner guitar comes with the steel stringed Yamaha Pacifica 112V VW RL. I have a coworker who's played guitar for 37 years and told me I should get nylon strings at first. What do you guys think? Price range is a max 500 euros or dollars.

I want to start getting into building a social media account, posting reels etc.. is it crucial to buy a mic to record from my amp? Everytime i dial in my tone is sounds great irl, then i playback the recording and it sounds like a line6 amp. Best ways to film with the phone? do you guys do it? Or should I just get a mic.

Build Your Build Your Own Mike Campbell Red Dog Telecaster
When Fender came out with a Master Built replica of Mike Campbell's Red Dog guitar, I knew it would be way out of my price range. When Fender came out with a version of Mike's Broadcaster, it sold out so quick that it didn't matter if I could afford it or not. There was no way I would spend over $20,000 on a replica guitar, so I decided to make my own. About 8 years ago I did kind of a lazy job crafting my own Campbell Broadcaster and it's become my main guitar. This time around I thought I'd put some actual planning into it. I came up with this build today with some help from Claude AI. I hope it helps someone else. I can't wait to start building my own Red Dog.
Sometimes buying stuff in the second hand market can be much better. I’ve always wanted this Epiphone Lee Malia LP Custom since it came out a decade ago. It is quite elusive especially in my previous country so I didn’t have the chance to own one back then.
Last week, I got a pretty solid deal and the parts were already upgraded by the previous owner, from locking tuners, bone nut, hard case, and even high quality electronics.
All I really had to do was change the strings and play it. This guitar is so versatile, damn, from cleans to blues, and obviously to chugging riffs. It can do almost everything (except trem which I don’t use anyway) 🤣
I am very impressed with this guitar and now I am on the hunt for the more elusive Lee Malia Explorer.

I've been a home player for 20 years. So Ill crank it up but not overly loud and only a few times month at any kind of remotely "elevated" level
The room I am forced to play in due to space is 10ft by 20ish ft small bedroom/large walk in closet
Hardwood floors, 2 large full size wooden clothes cabinets on one wall
The other wall completely covered in clothes hanging and shelving
A few years ago I had a horrible flu and Ive dealt with fluid stuck in my ears ever since. Cant afford insurance or a doctor visit. So all day Im "popping" my ears to drain them. Sometimes they wont unclog and other days totally clear
Then, I have a myriad of pedals and sound and styles that I play and two different guitars that sound entirely different
On top of all that, I have a really bad audio processing disorder, I think related to my inattentive ADHD. Im also high functioning autistic and deal with sensory "overload" as well.
SO ALL THAT CONTEXT TO SAY, Ive gotten into a habit in the last 6 months of realizing I'm NEVER happy with my sound ever anymore. Ive got everything I need to do basically any sound or style, but my tonal preferences seem to change nightly. Im going insane literally spending 4 hours at a time twiddling with knobs and EQ because no matter what, NOTHING EVER SOUNDS "RIGHT"
And its not a simple "walk away and come back" - my ears "lose objectivity" FAST. So that doesnt matter.
Im losing my mind here. Spend 3 hours chasing a sound, never quite getting there but close enough. Come back the next day with same settings and everything and it sounds.... wrong
Now obviously I know our ears hear things differently at different times and gear can be affected due to power fluctuations and things like that
This stuff is nothing new to any of us but this feels like a particularly egregious and extreme problem on my end. Ive become a damn mental patient endlessly chasing the dragon mirage in the desert, never able to get there, cuz I can't discern what the root of my supposed aural problem at whatever moment is.
I know this is a typical guitarist meme of never being satisfied with your sound, but this is legit a fucking problem and Im losing it here.
Is it me. Is it the gear. Is it the room. Am I simply processing the sound badly tonight. Etc etc etc
Holy fuck im losing my mind
For 15 years I never had a problem. In the last few ive honestly spent thousands of hourse at this point turning knobs endlessly....

Hey all, I'm in need of a new case for a very nice Martin D-35 from the 70s I recently inherited. I've never owned a nice vintage instrument, especially not one without a truss rod, so I would love recommendations for rock solid cases that will protect from impact and temperature/humidity change. I tried to research on my own, but case reviews are surprisingly garbage, but I know you all got me. Thanks!

All you badasses who gig with Mesa Boogie, Marshall, Hi-Watt, Hughes & Kettner or some other pro rig, what do you practice with at home?

I’ve been playing for about a year now. I have been focusing on improving my consistency and comfort while playing lately. I was very used to playing with my right shoulder hiked up and under a lot of tension, I think partly because I can’t naturally rest my wrist close to the bridge without straining. When I drop my shoulder while playing on the right leg, the natural position of my picking hand leans towards neck picking, and for most purposes I don’t like the sound of it.
I really started to mess up my picking wrist doing this, so I started playing on the left leg, which solved all of my picking hand problems. But now my fretting hand wrist is becoming very crunchy and painful, and I can’t stand to fret much anything unless my thumb is pointing towards the headstock, and my palm is basically flat against the swell of the neck, which I have read as being highly unadvised. Also, whenever I try to play on the right leg now, I immediately start feeling strain.
What do I do? I feel like I’m made of glass, and that I’m playing whack a mole. Every change I make hurts me somewhere else.
I included a short video, the only purpose of which is to show what my posture and basic technique looks like between the two playing positions.

Going through a pretty heartbreaking separation currently and I decided to treat myself to a new Taylor 114ce. Had to show it here but couldn't neglect my other instruments. Lol was recently gifted the sax and violin so I haven't really gotten them properly set up and learn them. Im mostly just a guitar player.
This Taylor is awesome btw plays beautifully and the action was actually really good right from the store. I spent like 3 hours cycling through guitars in the acoustic room in guitar center and I just kept going back to it. It sounds and plays great and very comfortable. She's a Beut.

Hello,
I'm a fairly new guitar player and I've learned a pretty basic version of Deftones "Be Quiet and Drive" on my acoustic guitar, but theres this youtube cover of it that I'd really like to replicate. The issue is that I'm not getting the same sound that the person performing the cover is, so if anyone can immediately spot how they altered the song and let me know I'd really appreciate it!
I'll leave a link to the cover, but if you'd rather just search it up heres the title:

I’ve been wanting one of these for a while and grabbed this one for <300+tax. It had some issues out of the box mostly due to being really dry and static charged, which resolved with some conditioning. The quality is far better than my expectations for a Squire, which were not high. I decided to trust the positive reviews, and am inclined to agree so far. The tuning stability may be one downside, so I will see what I can do about that. The build, feel, and sound are really nice. The Daphne blue color is actually better in person, wasn’t sure I would like it but it works.

I mean to making strings last, to stop the wood from bending, the pegs from breaking, etc.
A friend of mine who has over 15 years of experience told me to loosen the strings when I wasn’t going to use it for a while (a couple of days she said) but that only made me cut two strings whereas leaving them as they were has made them last for months.
That’s just an example, I’ve read and heard contradicting advise so I’d like to hear some of yours.

I have a Gretch, a Jackson, a Gibson, an Ibanez, an Epiphone, a very customized BCRich and a Ktaxon - the cheapest guitar available on Amazon 2 years ago, I practice my guitar maintenance and customization on it. I like them all, some more than others, and I continue to find guitars that I like. Do you have a favorite brand or do you just buy whatever hits with you? Or maybe you have a favorite type - my Ibanez and my Jackson have basically identical necks. I'm just curious.

I'm proud of this. It's far from perfect, there are multiple mistakes, my timing isn't perfectly in the pocket, the bends are out of tune. I'll keep iterating on it. But hopefully this can give you an idea of what to expect from ~1 year of dedicated practice as an older player.
I have attending jam nights lately and haven't had the guts to play guitar on stage yet. If you heard something of this quality at a jam / open mic would you consider it acceptable?
I'm open to feedback but I'm mostly posting this for discussion, I basically know where I need to improve on this and it's just a matter of grinding.
