Finished this game like 10 times sometimes ago and felt like starting the game again after a few months.

I want to start a new game but I want some ideas on some ways I can play this run, something really different that will give me a really different experience.

I was thinking about doing a challenge where if I find a weapon, I will have to use it until I find another one; but it will be really interesting to see what y'all can come up with!!!

Discussion & Info Elden Ring combat has too much dead space (vs. Sekiro)

Wanted to see what others thought. Started my fromsoft experience with Sekiro, loved it immensely- kicked my ass at the start, but when it all clicked it felt magnificent.

Elden Ring has been my second game, so I wanted to withhold judgment for a while so I'm not just "oh the first game I played is the best" etc.

In the DLC now, beat Malenia no-hit, so I feel I can say it now: Sekiro's combat loop is just way more fun, man. I do like Elden Ring to be fair, but the main thing thats been getting at me is the dead space.

There's bound to be a "your turn my turn" element to combat in these games, I have no issue with that. But Sekiro deals with this much better- whether you're on the offense or defense, posture damage means you're progressing the fight, bringing the enemy closer to defeat. For Elden Ring, if the enemy is attacking, and you dodge perfectly... you're back to square one.

The end result is that in Sekiro I was hoping the bosses would pull out their signature, harder moves. Sure, it might kill me- but usually these would be fast attacks chained together in a long combo, meaning if I played it right I'd deal massive posture damage.

In Elden Ring, I find myself groaning when an enemy pulls out a long combo. A short combo with an opening and a long combo with an opening are identical in terms of how much they move the fight forward, the latter is just... longer. And when an enemy chains combos it's just frustrating, as I have to wait even longer to start dishing damage back.

The same goes for aggression. If an enemy responds to your aggression with a counterattack in Sekiro, that's fine- just deal posture damage by deflecting. In Elden Ring, it's just your turn to wait again, dodging about.

I still am having a great time in Elden Ring, but I can't help but notice how much better a design Sekiro's deflection is for this type of combat. No dead space, always an option to move the fight forward, and lots of incentive to jump into the face of danger. Elden Ring can sometimes feel tedious in contrast.

TL;DR: Deflecting is a far more engaging mechanic than dodging for defense. Dodging gets boring because successfully dodging doesn't impact how far you are in the fight, while deflecting does.

Speculation Are the rune farming spots intentional?

• Upvotes

They definitely seem intentional, don’t they?

The Mohgwyn bird farm, having a grace RIGHT by the edge?

The Lennes rise grace, RIGHT next to the path with the boulder farm?

The elder dragon greyoll farm has a grace right behind the tail!

It all seems so conveniently placed, like it’s a built in mechanic or something 🫠.

side note, mohgwyn is probably my favorite. greyoll is a bit too difficult to pull off, and lennes rise is good for early game but becomes pretty obsolete after reaching levels 30-40. If I missed any let me know!

Discussion & Info How do people find Midir harder than Bayle? I can beat Midir no summons, but can barely take out 20% of Bayle’s health without summons

I can’t understand how people find Midir harder than Bayle. Is this just nostalgia mixed with them wanting the classic games to seem harder?

I’ve seen tons of people say Midir is way harder than Bayle. But Midir seems to move so slow and give plenty of time between moves

Bayle has a much more complicated moveset, endlessly spams attack combos and is just spewing fire and nuking the entire map

It’s not even a competition IMO. I mean Bayle is easier than Midir if you summon for him sure, but using no summons, it’s not a competition to which is harder IMO

Discussion & Info With all the Eurogamer hate going on, I'd like to showcase one of the worst reviews i've seen from the same site for Shadow of the Erdtree

• Upvotes

the score was a 3/5 with the only other critiques being messmer was too difficult and that SotE has a lot of empty dead space.

but this specific critique, you cannot be serious and tell me this isnt hating for the sake of hating?

Speculation A weird inconsistency.

Godwyn did not have a twin/counterpart.

All of Marika's known children have a twin or twinlike siblings: Mohg and Morgott are twins, Miquella and Malenia are twins, Messmer and Melina are kind of twins, their fire or themselves pose a danger to the Erdtree with their flames or as kindling able to burn the heart of the golden order. So, the "perfect" Godwyn, who was the only one that wasn't born with a curse, the only one with no twin?

Does having a twin means being cursed?

Lore What do you think?

I know, this is a pretty weird and somewhat nonsensical question, but let’s consider this: if the Tarnished were to follow that cliché of becoming a retired warrior, who would his wife be? I mean, I know he’s supposed to become the Elden Lord, but let’s set that aside. I’m talking about actual love—not someone like Marika. What do you all think?

Discussion & Info How to stretch Elden Ring Nightreign to fill 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide monitors using Lossless Scaling

If you're playing Elden Ring Nightreign on an ultrawide monitor (21:9 or 32:9), you may see that the game doesn't fill the entire screen and instead uses a more square shaped aspect ratio.

to stretch the game

  1. Launch Elden Ring Nightreign and open Lossless Scaling.
  2. Set up Lossless Scaling using the same settings shown in the screenshot.
  3. Click Scale in Lossless Scaling.
  4. Wait about 5 seconds, then go back into the game and change Screen Mode to Windowed. The game should now stretch to fill your entire screen.

If the stretching stops working

Sometimes the stretched image may disappear if you press the Windows key, use Alt + Tab, or something else interrupts the process.

To fix it, follow these steps:

  1. Change Screen Mode from Windowed to Borderless Windowed.
  2. Press the Windows key twice.
  3. Change Screen Mode back to Windowed.

The stretched image should return and fill the screen again.

If you only want to use Lossless Scaling for frame generation and make the game feel smoother than 60 FPS, simply click Scale without changing the game's Screen Mode.

Hope this helps someone. Enjoy!

Discussion & Info Is there a chance Elden Ring will get a second DLC?

Post image
770 Upvotes

Compared to Dark Souls II, which had 3 DLCs, and Dark Souls III, which had 2, Elden Ring is way more successful commercially but only has 1 DLC. Is there a chance it will get more?

The Tarnished Edition is great, but it's just customization.

Some of y'all know FromSoftware and its titles way better than I ever will, so I'm curious: why does their most commercially successful title seem comparatively slept on when it comes to DLCs?

Game Help 2000 hours gone.

PS5 died a couple weeks ago. When you turn it on, it does the beep and flashes blue for a second and then shuts down. Took it to my local repair shop and they said it’s a ‘major short on the motherboard’.

I ended up buying a new ps5 a couple days ago. When everything was set up the first game I down loaded was Elden Ring.

When I booted up the game my heart dropped as there were only 7 characters. I have had all 10 slots full for a long while now. I eventually realized that this save was from over 2 years ago. None of these characters have any dlc equipment.

I am not sure how this happened. I immediately went to my cloud save but it was time stamped at 1 minute earlier, so it’s the same save.

I realize I’m just screwed here, but on the off chance there’s some way to recover the data please lemme know.

Hello everyone, Elden ring is my favourite game and nothing beats that feeling when the main theme blasts out the first time you load up the game , so i decided to make a composition inspired by it and its amazing soundtrack.

Just to warn its a little long to build up and unfortunately i dont have a full orchestra at my disposal so ive only got the free musecore sounds , anyway thank you for your time and let me know what you think !

Discussion & Info Which Rememberances are worth duplicating?

I just beat Consort Redahn and I'm currently preparing to start NG+. I'm working on getting all achievements on one character, so I've got 2 more play throughs to go. However, I want to duplicate some Rememberances to get all the goodies. Specially ones of bosses I don't have to fight again.

Take Dragonlord Placidusax for example. You have to go out of your way to fight him in Farum Azula. Sure you get an achievement out of it. But then you never have to see him again if you don't want to. So that would make duplicating his Rememberance worth it in my eyes.

Same is true for Malenia. Yes she is tied to Millicent's quest line. But I don't really care. Also don't care about her great rune.

Astel and Lichdragon Fortissax are other good candidates for duplication. As well as Consort Redahn. Yes I know I'd have to duplicate Rememberance of a God and Lord twice to get both swords and the spell. But I really don't want to fight him on NG+. I was stuck on base Consort for nearly two weeks.

So any help determining what Rememberances are worth duplicating is much appreciated. Obviously I'd like to avoid any mandatory bosses since I'll have to fight them again.

Hype Best game ever!

Post image
0 Upvotes

Yes, this is another such post... I just finished the base game + dlc and it's best game ever. Thanks to anyone who decided to port it to Switch 2 😉

The world of this game is absolutely wonderful and I loved getting to new areas, being terrified what is to come and jump at me there (especially in early game, got easier later).

Finished all game with my two handed Cold Milady (started with bloodflame blade idus sword, but constant rebuffing was hella frustrating). Somehow PCR took me less tries than Malenia, but both fights were wonderful and took a lot of effort - both with no summons.

I only hate those dragon fights (except Bayle which was wonderful), but bolt of gransax killed them easy.

Now I guess some short break from gaming or switch to different game for a while and then time to replay it ;) rather not NG+1 as it seems boring, but new character.

Stay strong Tarnished!

📖 2. A HISTÓRIA E O GRANDE PLOT TWIST

🛗 4. A DESCIDA DO ELEVADOR

• A música cessa. O som destrói o psicológico do jogador durante a descida.

⚔️ 5. A BATALHA FINAL CONTRA O SEU MACULADO (3 FASES)

🎬 Cutscene de Introdução: O Banquete do Rei

O elevador chega.

🎬 Transição Temática (O Sacrifício e a Lança)

• Você arremessa a Lança. Ela atravessa o peito dele e o empala na parede.

🌌 FASE 3: O Deus do Buraco Negro

Constructive Criticism Slight rant

I don't like the fact that elden ring is impossible to play without walkthroughs, like there are hundreds of things to miss, hundreds of quests to mess up, crazy hidden spots, its almost made like the game has to be solved by collaborative effort. Shoutout to FightinCowboy for being an absolute goat so that no one misses anything but playing by watching walkthrough completely ruins the satisfaction for me of finding stuff myself but like even the hidden wall near the painting in the DLC, how the hell is anyone supposed to find that. I dont want to go around attacking every wall I see and talk to every npc after every little thing by being scared of stuff getting locked.

Discussion & Info Do I buy Elden Ring PC?

Hello. So I’ve been wanting to play Elden Ring a while now (never played a souls game) and I’ve always been a PS5 gamer. I’ve recently built a rather powerful PC (GeForce RTX 5070 7800x3d) but I heard Elden Ring is capped at 30fps. I’m wondering if it’s possible to max out graphics so I looks night and day compared to PS5 and also is it worth playing in general? Big fan of RPG open world games… it’s currently around £30 on steam so might wait for a sale. Any info is useful, cheers!

EDIT : Sorry I meant 60fps!
