Adult only Grand Floridian Stay

Hi all, my family recently purchased a resale DVC contract as a 40th gift to me (but really as a nice thing ti have for my family to last until my kids graduate high school).

One of my best childhood friend and I will be celebrating our 40th bdays together just the two of us for a long weekend, staying a fri-sun at the Grand Floridian. We are flying in early Friday morning and spending the day in the resort, then plan to go to Epcot on Saturday, and another resort day Sunday until our flights Sunday night.

We want to treat ourselves, and would love to hear about your experiences and suggestions for a girls trip for our given plans. Which restaurants, what magical extra experiences, you name it I’d love the suggestions if it was a good experience.

Personally I have always wanted to do Behind the Seeds at Epcot so might work that into the plans.

Thank you all!

Edit: we are going end of January

Curiosity question

Last visit I met a very nice older couple whilst doing laundry. They were telling me that they spent six weeks every year (using their dvc).

I always was under the impression you couldn't book for more than four weeks? Would they have to have two bookings and checked out and back into another room🤔

Just signed up with David’s

EDIT #2: Oct. 26
Well that was fast! Rented all of my points. Thank you for all of the replies, everyone!

EDIT #1: Oct. 25
Someone wants to rent 19 points. How difficult might it be to offload the rest?

Hello!
I have 51 points that are going to expire in February. I just signed up with David’s to see if I can rent them out. I’ve never had to sell points before. I know that this isn’t a guaranteed thing—but I’m hoping that I’ll have success in offloading them.
Looking for information about how easy the process is from others who’ve gone this route.
Thanks!

Choosing a resort, and Resale VS New

Good morning all!

My fiancée and I recently returned from our second trip to Disney world this year from Canada.

We’ve always stayed at pop century, because of the easy layout, and honestly the hectic vibe is kinda fun.

When we were there we investigated DVC, and were comparing what we pay for our current trips, vs, joining and while it obviously seems like it would be more, as we consider having kids, and getting older, we do like the idea of the nicer resorts.

We took a tour of a few, specifically we toured Poly, BMV, and the skylines one I can’t remember the name of, and we’ve been bouncing back and forth between whether we go new for the perks, such as buying an Annual pass, financing, member benefits like I’ve heard of character stuff that happens, discounts, and unique DVC merch, but we’ve also seen just how drastic the price difference is between new and resale.

Unfortunately we didn’t have time to tour every DVC resort,Ike we wanted too, since we well were doing a lot of things as Disney “vacations” can be hectic.

What are some of the cons of the other resorts? Polynesian is absolutely beautiful, but also seems pretty expensive compared to others even in resale, essentially what we’re looking for is advice, what resort do you stay at? If you purchased new do you use the blue card benefits, or not? If you purchase resale, do you find you wish you bought new? Do you feel like it’s different? What are nit picky things you may not like about your resort, what do you like? We noticed again for Polynesian to take the buss there, you go to different resort first then go to the Polynesian, so after HS or AK since there not on the monorail, it can be a-bit of a drag to get back we’d imagine, but we also rented a car this time when we went and would probably do it again, they do charge for there “valet” parking, but since we have an accessibility permit we were luckily able to avoid that during our visit for breakfast and to tour.

The diminishing of point values due to restrictions

I think about this every now and then and perhaps this is just me venting.

I remember when hearing the DVC pitch a long time ago and what of the largest perks to this time share is that they promised that Disney does things to help maintain the value of your points if you needed to resell them by doing things like RoFF and having the benefits be transferable on a sale.

But with the recent changes, I feel like they're constantly diminishing the value of the points that I had purchased.

To be fair, my contract is 125, and I if I sold my points someone in that price range wouldn't get the DVC benefits with or without going direct.

Anyhow, I feel like Disney had engaged in deceptive misleading sales tactic by insinuating that they would do their best to retain DVC point if members want to sell only to completely destroy the value of resale points by removing all benefits.

DVC ToolKit app

Part of what I like about DVC is the planning process of fun trips. The excitement of staying at a new resort and tracking how points I have and what availability is out there. I used DVC Toolkit for all of those purposes. I just found out that they pulled the plus subscription from the app and it lost most of its useful functionality. Does anyone else use this app? I wonder why this happened.

Small Contract Strategy

Im thinking about joining via resale and buying 3 small (50-75 point) contracts at Saratoga, AKL, and Bay Lake. My thinking is I can borrow/bank enough points so that about every 9 months I can stay at one of these resorts for ~4-5 nights in a studio. what am I overlooking here?

Resale Perks

Recently purchased my first contract (resale). I'm fully aware of all the member "benefits" resale members don't qualify for.... but I'm curious if there are any benefits or little perks we do qualify for. For example, can resale members get the DVC magnets they hand out periodically? Any other perks people may not know about?

Jambo House or Kidani Village

Planning to do a 6 night trip in June 2027. We will have 2 younger kids, 2 adults, and 2 grandparents, so 2 savanna view deluxe studios. We are planning to do a resort heavy stay, maybe 2 park days. Which one would you pick?

Anyone owners rent DVC points? (As renters, not owners)

I think maybe I just wanna know how crazy we are 😂 so we own 200 points which is enough for us to do a couple vacations a year! But I found a good rental cash stay and is something we’d not be able to book with our points - both for the length of this stay + the time of year it is. it’s also a resort we've never stayed at and don’t own at.

But I realize maybe this was totally silly?! idk. like I could have put this $$ in more points 😂 don’t get me wrong, alone this cost is not enough for even a small resale contract. But I could have saved it for a future purchase?

*But* our kiddo is only going to be little for so long, I’m focusing on that vs it being the best use of $$$. Balance, is what I’m telling myself 😇

Need advice

We’ve kicked around the idea of DVC for awhile now. But can’t seem to figure out what’s best.

Family of four. Passholders. Go to Disney 4-5 times per year. Most stays are 5 days minimum.

We always stay around Epcot to avoid having to transport back to a resort after parks close. Unless it’s extra hours somewhere. Wood prefer to stay that way.

I almost pulled the trigger on Riviera while on a cruise but did not.

What do I do here? The resale market seems interesting but I don’t understand all the restrictions.

What am I losing if I buy all resale? What if I buy some from Disney and the rest through resale?

I’m sure you guys are tired of answering these posts, so thank you for any guidance here.

Transferring points

Where do people go for trusted transfers of points. I used Timeshare Inc but they don’t have any 2027 UY contracts available right now. Im looking for 250-275 points so it will be costly & I’m scared to use FB… just seen so many horror stories. But maybe people have good luck there?

Anyone know how fast wifi is at Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotels?

We are newbie DVC members. My wife wants to attend the upcoming Epilepsy conference at Disneyland and wants to stay at the Grand Californian or Disneyland Hotel. I work from home but unfortunately can't take vacation during this time. I can work remotely but need wifi speeds faster than 20-30Mbp/s for the work I do. Even at those speeds my file transfers and remote connections would be a nuisance. My job is video calls while connecting to remote cloud systems and downloading/moving large files (GB's), db searches and AI usage. I have a laptop with portable dual monitor system. I would also need to work from the room and couldn't work from a public/common area.

Does anyone happen to know the current down/up wifi speeds at either of those hotels? I've tried the wifi in a few non-Disney hotels in the past and it was anywhere from 2-10Mbp/s and it was just way to slow. I could hotspot it I guess but my personal plan doesn't include unlimited data and I don't have a company phone.

Thanks!

What happened today?

I have been stalking the site to modify a reservation for over 2 months. The second week of November wax slammed and there has been nothing available. All of a sudden today, EVERYTHING opened up, like every resort and room type. Anyone know what happened? Did commercial renters have reservations cancelled? Anyone have any insight?

Boulder Ridge 1br Room?

Hi all,

I’m back to ask about room requests.

We are staying 7 nights at BR 1br villa in July. My older is neurodivergent, and my youngest is 2. We will have a double stroller too.

I was thinking of requesting a room on the 1st floor so we have more time to get things together and out the door (my older kiddo can have some challenges transitioning). But I am also concerned about potential noise levels bc everyone has to pass through the first floor (my kiddo is also sensitive to loud sounds).

So with that in mind, would you recommend I request a room on the first floor, or maybe the 2nd floor?

THANK you!

Edit: if there is a specific room number you’d request, I’d appreciate it!

Buy DVC when I don't plan on visiting until 2028?

We rented DVC points this year at Polynesian and Boardwalk. Loved it and plan on buying resale Polynesian at some point. Would have considered Boardwalk or Beach Club but I prefer a longer deed.

We already have two trips planned next year 2027 outside of Disney. So we won't use any points until 2028 most likely. I was planning to purchase whenever I find a desirable resale Poly contract for about 150-160 points.

I know we can rent out points we don't use in 2027 or bank them to 2028 but does it make sense to buy now if we won't use until 2028? I see there's a few stripped or near stripped resale Poly contracts out now but they don't look like great deals for stripped. The slight 10-15 reduction in price/point seems not worth it. I'd still need to pay 2027 dues (unless negotiated with the seller) and have no points. Whereas a non-stripped that costs a bit more, I can pay the dues but rent out the points to cover that cost for just 2027.

Tl;Dr Does it make financial and "crystal-ball" sense to buy DVC now when we won't use it until 2028 or wait until same time next year to buy?
