Monthly r/Pixar Ranking/Tier Thread

It's that time of the month again; Ranking Time! To keep the subreddit less cluttered with everyone and their mom's rankings, we're going to use this thread specifically for the community to post their rankings/tiers.

Please note: This thread now includes any sort of Pixar-related ranking/tiers, so you can include your favorite characters, shorts, or any category you'd like.

So here we go! Post your rankings, tell what your favorites are and why, etc! Just remember, while you may not agree with a user's list, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, they don't have to explain their choices to you if they don't want to, and there are no wrong answers. Everything is subjective. SO PLAY NICE! ;)

Is there a collab? A research for a Cars project or just some cars of the higher plans?

Discussion Anyone else think Soul and Coco are similar?

Both are emotional fantasies starring musicians who aspire to be more (Joe, Miguel), to the dismay of their family members (Joe’s mother, Miguel’s family).

Both use a supernatural journey to interrupt a major event in the protagonist’s lives (Joe going to the soul dimension, Miguel going to the land of the dead).

Both have the protagonists being accompanied by people who guide them in the supernatural world (22, Hector), as they slowly form a bond.

And they both kinda compliment each other thematically, with Soul being about the meaning of life, and Coco about the meaning of death.

Yes, these movies are still pretty different from one another, but on rewatch I noticed the similarities, and how they feel like companion pieces to each other.

I’m just curious if there’s anyone else who notices the similarities.

Discussion It's amazing how Carl managed to survive everything he went through in this movie.

Like, this guy is 76 years old, who was constantly running for his life, getting thrown around, and even had to fight. And after all that, Carl still managed to survive without having a heart attack, or even as much as a bruise. He's tough.

Fan Made My childhood drawing of Sid, Woody & the Mutant Toys from Toy Story.

Post image
22 Upvotes

I drew this from my big Toy Story book. I'm a 90s kid. I grew up on the first two Toy Story movies. I always thought Sid was a great villain. I thought the Mutant Toys were cool. I wish Pixar would bring them back in a future movie. I know Sid made cameos in Toy Story 3 but I want him to be the villain again.

I wanna see Andy and Hannah hook up in college. Imagine Sid showing up at Bonnie's house to get revenge on the toys. Bonnie gives up the toys to Sid. She and Blaze move on to play with Lilypad. Sid looks at the toys and says "lets go home and play" as a callback to the first movie. That should of been the post credit scene for Toy Story 5. That would got me hyped.

Lotso - "Well hello! I'm coming back to reclaim Sunnyside to get my revenge."

Prospector - "Hey Woody! Still friends with that space toy you sellout?!"

Gabby Gabby - "Here's your stupid voice box! The girl stopped playing with me! This is all your fault!"

Sid - ANGRILY SCREAMS

Discussion The gang's role in Toy Story 5

Post image
66 Upvotes

I personally quite enjoyed TS5 - love to see Jessie in a main role! - but my biggest complaint with the movie is that the original supporting cast of toys, like Slinky, Rex, Hamm, etc, didn't really have that much of an impact on the story. Compare it to TS2 for example, where they were central characters and key to rescuing Woody, in this film it feels as if they could have been written out without much changing.

So, if you were to give them more of a role in the film, what would your suggestion be?

I'd consider having them join Bo Peep. At the start of the movie i's suggested toys are being abandoned in favour of tech; maybe they could do a side quest helping her. It could serve as a bit of comic relief, perhaps.

Your thoughts?

I finally just watched Toy Story 5

It was really good. It's probably now my favorite of the franchise because I liked how it dealt with technology. And frankly the movie made me wish I was a kid again and reminded me of how I sometimes hate being an adult. Watching the Toy Story movies as an adult now hit really hard to me since they make me miss my childhood and how I loved some childhood toys. I still buy new toys for me but I rarely play with them. Just because I'm an adult doesn't literally mean I have to stop playing with toys. I miss back when nobody talked about politics to me, nobody forced me to vote or nobody forced me to care about more serious stuff I never asked to be involved with

Pixar Good and Bad Villains in Good and Bad Movies.

Post image
129 Upvotes

If I wanted to switch a villain, I would have to post it again. I just want you to know if that'll happen.

I'll say why Terry is on here.

I put Terry under bad because he's just doing his job. And Soul looks like a great movie to me.

I'll also say why Brave is with the bad movies.

To me, I see how the animation looks, and where the movie takes place makes it almost boring to me. And I wouldn't say it's worst. About Mor'du, I put him under great, because he looks scary and how he hits all of the guys.

It's hard who I want to replace some of these villains with. Would you disagree with any of these?

WALL-E I just thought about this...

The name wall-e can mean wall-earth because he builds WALLS of dirt and waste on the EARTH

I know that the letters actually mean Waste Allocation Load Lifter: Earth-Class but I think it's funny like that.

The Incredibles What Rick said to Bob here hits harder than you remember.

Bob was once Mr. Incredible, one of the greatest superheroes of his time, during the Glory Days of the Supers. But after the government outlawed superheroes, he was forced to leave that life behind.

It’s a line that can apply to real life, too. Celebrities who were once household names at the height of their fame can eventually fade into obscurity as times change and new stars emerge.

“We appreciate what you did in the old days… but those days are over.”

A harsh reminder that nothing lasts forever. 💭

Toy Story What headcanons do you have for where Andy's Dad is in Toy Story and why?

We've all heard theories about where Andy's Dad is in Toy Story, right? Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I'd like to think Andy's Dad is not dead and is very much alive and the Davis Family are a normal nuclear family. His dad just wasn't important in a story about sentient toys. I've seen plenty of theories on Andy's Dad because that is what I was into in Primary and Secondary School. I've seen theories that they're divorced, Andy's Dad is dead, he's Al from Al's Toy Barn (100% don't know where that theory came from), etc. I think the most famous (or infamous) theory on where Andy's father is comes from the SuperCarlinBrothers/Mike Mozart theory from back in 2017, which was according to Joe Ranft, a late writer on Toy Story who claimed that Andy's Dad died of Post-Polio Syndrome. But, Andrew Stanton who was also working there at the time shut it down, so we don't know if it's true or not.

But, if you want me honest opinion, Andy's Dad is alive and well and working abroad or in a different city. For some reason, I had an idea in my head that Andy's Dad was either a FIFO (fly in, fly out) worker, e.g. archaeologist, businessman or a pilot on an aeroplane. I kind of like pilot because it's a cool job and maybe that's why Andy loves Buzz so much. And, fyi, I do believe Andy's Dad is alive and Woody is just Andy's "extra special toy" because he's a hand-me-down from Andy's grandfather (circa. 1940's), to Andy's father (circa. 1960's/70's) to Andy (b. 1988/89). Comment below your thoughts on Andy's Dad and let me know if you believe the Mike Mozart/Joe Ranft theory and why?

Just realized something scary

Back in Toy Story 3, when Buzz is reset into "Space Ranger mode" under Lotso's dictatorship, that book worm throws a small manual and says it was "archived" as Lightyear, but now i was wondering, HOW did they have the manual? What if they did have another Buzz, but for being a toy very prone to breaking, he got broken beyond repair (aka DIED) and his manual got archived just in case they ever had another Buzz Lightyear they wanted to use as a sort of warden???

Alternate Commander Nebula, Alternate Mira Nova, Alternate XR & Evil Buzz Lightyear from the episode Lightyear Factor.

I think I drew this because I wanted to draw their uniforms.

Feara from the episode Clone Rangers.

I was trying to draw an adult version of Feara with the pigtails. I didn't realize there was an adult version with her hair down in the episode.

Mira Nova

I don't know why I drew her right leg so fat. I should of redrew it.

Toy Story 5 My Problem With Lilly Pad (Toy Story 5 Spoilers) Spoiler

I have a major problem with Toy Story 5, particularly with Lilly Pad and how she gets a happy ending. I've read and heard many defenders of this movie, and I get why people can like her and this movie, but my problem is with how Lilly Pad acted throughout the entire film towards the toys, and was a villain that rivaled Stinky Pete and Lotso in terms of evil actions and desires (she tries to get the toys donated and is almost successful because she wants to have Bonnie to herself, which to a toy being ripped from their child is basically death as seen with Emily and Andy). I get that it was well intentioned (she wants Bonny to have friends), but the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Throughout the entire first 2 acts she's condescending, manipulative, addicting, and overall just mean "because she knows what's best for everyone, and I don't have to listen to anyone else's perspective." Her arc is basically the same villain arc that Stinky Pete and Lotso had. However, instead of giving her her just deserts like Stinky Pete or Lotso, the movie chickens out and says "no I'm actually a good guy now." I get that it's the franchise "getting with the times" with ipad kids and showing that tech and toys can coexist, but the redemption basically came out of nowhere if you ask me. Like, they set her up to where I was wanting to see her fail, and then she didn't fail.

How could they tell the story of tech then? Simple, make her not a jerk. I know it's kind of retreading the first movie, but if she was just oblivious and the toys were jealous, that would have made the resolution and ending so much better. If Lilly Pad was like "hi there, I'm Lilly Pad, it's not my fault Bonny likes me more and you're getting replaced, maybe I could find a metube video of the old woddy's roundup, or find a cowboy game," I would have wanted a "redemption." Like, if Buzz had acted like Lilly Pad did and was all "get over yourself cowboy, it's all about the space age, maybe it's time I throw you out the window where you belong," I would have been rooting for him to get blown up by Sid's rocket (or at the very least, get left behind to live amongst Sid's toys), but because he was all "I'm a space ranger on a mission from Star Command, I have no interest in concurring your planet, I'm only biding my time with the being you call Andy until I can get my ship repaired and go off to infinity and beyond," I believe that he and Woody can be friends at the end and am happy with that ending.
